Publisher 2K Games has tapped well-known promoter Don King to be the face of their upcoming "documentary-style" boxing game.

Don King Presents: Prizefighter, which is slated for a second quarter 2008 release, is being developed by Venom Games, the studio responsible for Rocky and Rocky: Legends on the Xbox and PlayStation 2. The game is scheduled for simultaneous release on the Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, and Nintendo DS. 2K Games Australia confirmed there will be no PlayStation 3 version of the title.

A 2K Games Australia representative told GameSpot AU Don King Presents: Prizefighter would include a documentary-style narrative career mode, training, and the need to manage personal relationships outside of the ring. Players will also need to maintain a crowd appeal rating which will be determined by the amount of time spent working on skills between bouts.

In a press statement, boxing promoter Don King said he was excited about working on the project. "In all my years working in professional boxing, I have never seen anything come as close to recreating the thrill, the intensity, the courage, and he spectacle of the sport," he said.

More information will be available on a 2K Sports microsite, although at the time of publication the page was not yet live.

No PS3 title,**** that

I can't believe there has not been more excitement about this game here at Boxingscene.com. A true "sim" style boxing game is something I have been begging for for many years.

I hate fight night with a passion. Rounds 2 and 3 were terrible and I don't care to play them ever again. Bring on 2k boxing please....

Apparently there is a Don King career mode in the game where you can do time in jail for murder, come out and spend the rest of your life robbing good fighters of their money, all whilst sporting one of the most rediculous haircuts known to man.

Well, I am a fan of VB too. For me personally, I never like the control scheme in VB though. Anyway, Prizefighter is still going to be the first sim style game for a "next-gen" system like the 360.

I just can't wait to get my hands on that game. My only real fear is that they will use a lousy control figuration. The on e thing I do really like about Fight Night is TPC. The button set-up is good for that game also. But other than that...flush that crap down the toilet.

Sucks ass that it's not going to be on the PS3. I wonder if there going to have some kind of boxing game on the PS3. I sure hope they do.

I hope to god this will be awesome. I kinda want it to be like VB in a way, but more advanced it gameplay (IE: Having knockdowns be rare like in real boxing).

I hope it has a better roster, better season and less haymakers/more realistic clinches&fouls&inside fighting than FN3 had.

cool, i heard that to win the game you have to make sure your fighter is broke and on drugs, then you get a golden crown sent to you in the mail.

April 20th according to 1up.com

I hope we get more information on it. The one thing I want most about this game is the fighters to feel like you are fighting as them. Victorious boxers does this pretty good since each style is different, but Knockout kings 2001 did it better. Each fighter fought with his own style really. If you used Oscar, he had his jab and a great left hook. If you used judah, speed southpaw kind of deal.

I'm looking foward to that plus a great roster and gameplay (like VB, but better/more advanced). That would be so worth it, even if it had a ****ty career mode.

Does anyone think we might get some info on this game Saturday night with Tito against Roy? I have a hard time believing Don wont say anything about this game all night, but who knows? I love 2k but the are so secretive about every game they make. I am hoping for some details about the game.

Did anyone see the 10 screenshots that were up for Prizefighter this morning? They looked damn good, but they were pulled down within hours.

I wish I had saved more than one picture. The form of the fighters looked realistic, there were robes, refs, announcers, everything!

I saw current fighters from the Flyweight division (Vic Darchinyan and former heavyweights like Ken Norton. I might have seen young George Foreman too, but the face was a little obscured by a punch...so I am not sure about that one.

The game looks HOT so far! Go 2K!

I found some more screenshots but I am having difficulty putting them up right now. I have confirmed that the pics are from early development so whether you like what you see or not, don't worry. The actual game will look drasticly sharper and better. That has been confirmed.

Once again, I will try to get these pics up tonight. I am very dedicated to hyping this game and getting the info out so just bare with while I sort this out.

Daniel Ponce De Leon is in the game, absolutely certain. So is Pavlik, Ken Norton, Darchinyan. A young version of Foreman apears to be in the game but I can't get that confirmed.

I want to say more but my hands are tied do to legal reasons, and a friendship with a contact who knows ..too much. I can say this, at least 60 fighters (real boxers confirmed! And there might be (don't call me the liar) just possibly...200!!!!!! Holy ****!

When I know more and can say more I will.

Also, you can tell it's early pictures. They have Vic in a orthodox stance, he's southapw.

warp1432
01-18-2008, 12:11 AM
I'm glad he's in the game.

Holmes is a very good Jabber and in boxing games I love to throw the jab out there the most. It's so ineffective in FNR3 (not so much VB/VR/VB2/BR2 and KO kings 01), I'll need a good jab.

I hate Fight night 3, simulator my ass it's arcade all the way. Invisible wall between the fighters diminish all the possibilites on real inside fighting, proper fouls and a real clinch. Also you get hit way too much because your punches always go right on the money or right on the block, you can't adjust the punch yourself like in a true simulator. The career mode is so hollow, you have like 5 amateur matches after that you go fighting guys until they're so good overall the matches become irritating(unless you lose) not to mention the ****ty training systems. Online gaming could be the saving grace, unfortunately the combat system can be manipulated by cunts who just desperately want the wins. It's ok to play with a friend who knows boxing and wants to have more realistic boxing matches in the game but overall FN 3 is a failure.

2k Sports is known to produce better games than EA Sports therefore my expectations are high.

I agree. This should be huge step forward for boxing games! I am certainly glad to see Flyweights and Super Middleweights in the game! I wonder how many weight divisions they will include? I hope they have twice as many as...what's that crappy game called?

Anyway...I would love to diet and train my fighter from one division to the next.

when is this game suppose to come out?

I don't think there is a date that is really set in stone, but at this point the date that I have ben told, overheard, and read as rumor is April 22, 08.

Long story short, I work for a website that does business with Rockstar games. Rockstar is part of the 2k family and I have developed a friendship with someone over there that is a huge boxing fan too.

I always try to get him to give me some info but he isn't allowed to know nearly as much as I hoped for. Or maybe he keeps secrets really well? lol. I don't know.

What I have been told is that 2k would like to have the game released around the time one of their high-profile fighters is in a "big" fight. The pavlik rematch with Taylor is just too soon for...I don't know why the game is not ready. Could any of a hundred different reasons.

I have heard that the game might have a cover design that looks like a P4P list ensemble. Don't expect it to be perfect though because I think someone like Pavlik will be used for the face-recognition.
