View Full Version : Anybody off to the match tomorrow?
mickeyb 12-07-2007, 02:50 PM Gonna watch the mighty Owls play Coventry tomorrow. Quite excited.
I have a long day and night ahead of me... early morning pints... and boozing until Hatton comes on and fights for us.
You reckon i'll last?
kayjay 12-07-2007, 03:32 PM I'm jealous mickey; we have one local footy team (the college's); I went to a game and almost laughed through the whole thing. But tomorrow I'll watch Chelsea-Sunderland for my morning tv and maybe catch a snippet of Liverpool-Reading later.

That doesn't sound to bad. Its nice to meet an American who doesn't say that football or soccer is shit, or not a real sport. Next to boxing, to me, its the most exciting sport to spectate.
Well...if your ever in England, in the football season...and in sheffield... on a saturday afternoon.
You can come watch some Championship division football with me pal. You can be like the yank in Green Street.
Except none of this poofter cockney ****ing rubbish.

Footy will always be number one in my book, boxing can compete for second. I always tell the Limeys here we really do have a footballing culture in America -- it's not where I now live, but it exists. And it's had results as far as I'm concerned.
I will be doing an English football tour in the next few seasons. Gotta work out time and money and personal details first. Not next year but maybe after.

Where would that be?

I don't doubt you. I've seen yank players...we have on my own team, we all love him - Frank Simek. We all shout "USA!, USA!, USA!" when he does something good - which is often.
What kinda tour...come on..gimmie details of what u fancy doin?

Frankie Simek is playing for Wednesday now? Damn I haven't been keeping up. How long has that been? He's been capped a few I think, but over here everybody gets capped, it's a different national policy than with the recent England managers.
I don't have plans yet. I just want to take a vacation during English football season 'cause I've been spending Saturday and Sunday mornings for years watching. What do you think? Of course I would want to hit a few of the 'big' grounds like Old Trafford and most importantly Anfield, but I suppose I would mix it up with some Championship places as well. I don't know the lay of the land well enough to know what's reasonable. Maybe like three weekends/two weeks (16 day trip) which would allow me to see nine or ten games with travel between.
For instance: if I flew into Londay Friday I could see two games there, then be somewhere northwards for midweek, get to Liverpool for the second weekend, then take a different route back dow to leave from London again.

Sounds like alot of hassle mate. Catching that many games in such a short time. In 3 weeks... treking to all those different grounds... you might get sick of it. I guess... depending on what time of the season it is... you could catch a big game on Saturday ... one on Sunday... one midweek... so thats 3 a week... so perhaps 9 if you wanted to push yourself.
Your not planning on seeing two different games on a saturday are you Kay? Early and a late afternoon one?
-- Frank Simeks been playing with us for a few seasons. He's really good. Some even say perhaps Premiership material.
kayjay 12-07-2007, 06:41 PM No mickey, not two-a-days, but in London you can catch a Saturday, then a Sunday, right? Then a midweek and if I'm at Anfield by the next Saturday I won't be too sick to go to a game there. Maybe after that I would relax it and catch some museums.
I couldn't get world cup tickets, but that would have been a similar schedule. I put in for the England lottery b/c I was supposed to be going with my mate from London. If we had put in for US we would have had a better chance. This reasoning had no effect on him.
