Thunderous knockouts have always been a core part of K-1. To a significant extent, that’s what the sport has built itself on since 1993. On May 2nd, though, the term “knockouts” will take on a new meaning in “The New Fighting Sport” when 23-year old former Playboy model La Tasha Marzolla makes her K-1 USA debut at Las Vegas, Nevada’s Mirage Hotel and Casino.
“I’m really excited to be fighting at the K-1. I think it’s a really good opportunity for me,” said the stunningly gorgeous Marzolla, who will showcase her newfound skills in a rematch with Nina Magsamin during the event’s preliminary card. On February 7th, the 5’6”, 118-pound Marzolla scored two knockdowns on Magsamin over the course of three, two-minute rounds before being awarded a unanimous decision victory at The Stardust Hotel and Casino during an all-women’s kickboxing fight card. “I was a little nervous because it was my first fight,” admitted Marzolla. “I think my adrenaline got in the way a bit, but it turned out really good anyway. I’ll be more prepared for this fight mentally because I know what’s gonna happen in the ring. So, it’s gonna be easier for me to knock her out.”
Many of those in attendance at the Mirage may recognize Marzolla’s face from the pages of Playboy magazine, for which she has graced the cover twice and appeared in a total of five different issues. Aside from the covers of August 2002’s “Voluptuous Vixens” special and December 2002’s “Top 20 Models” lingerie edition, the Las Vegas resident’s most high-profile appearance in the top-selling men’s magazine came earlier this year in it’s “Top 100 Playmates” issue in which she was featured alongside celebrity models Victoria Silverstedt and Pamela Anderson.
Not too long ago, Marzolla stumbled on Thailand’s national sport, Muay Thai, when she took up kickboxing as a means of staying fit and learning to defend herself. She quickly became hooked on the intensive training program offered by Las Vegas trainer Master Toddy and soon got the urge to compete. After only one fight, it appears she has found a new career. “I’ve been modeling for a couple of years and gone as far as I can go. I’ve been really lucky,” she said. “But (fighting)’s just more exciting for me. I feel like it’s a challenge. I really love the sport.”
