first fight was yesterday in the novice division. i am 165 but should be at 145 and fought a guy who was about a half a foot taller than me. im 5'8. except he was 183lbs. first time fighting a tall opponent like that. he was solid muscle but for some reason i was never nervous and had no fear of him. soon as the bell rang my hands were down as if i was fighting a guy my height. he landed the jab and bang the right came after wards. i saw like a fuzz and i was dropped. got right up and fought the best that i could i landed a right but barely caught him. as i was jabbing he landed another right on my temple and i was down. got up and chased him around and then he again landed another right i wasn't dropped but ref stopped it. it was quick fight but one that i am grateful for because i felt what a knock down feels like and know of one way not to fight taller opponents. today my neck was sore. my next fight will be in two months at 140lbs. if i had the chance 30minutes after the fight i would fight him again with a different approach.

Why are you not fighting guys in your same weight class?

Your amateur boxing commission should have never allowed the fight, the only division where you can have a big weight difference is the super-heavy weight class.

That weight difference is insane. I'm very surprised the local boxing association allowed it. Was this a USA Boxing fight, or a local smoker?

I can tell you, though: if you lose 25 lbs. in 2 months, you will, IMO, be in no shape to fight. You won't even know how to make the most of your improved mobility at that weight -- even 10 lbs. of weight makes a huge difference in what you can do on your feet, which is why you need to train at or near your fighting weight -- to say nothing of the fact that you'll have to be seriously starving yourself and/or working yourself to the point of exhaustion for weeks on end to lose weight that fast. You won't be strong, and you'll still be fighting like a middleweight. My advice is, take your time and train smart.

believe it or not it was a boxing usa event. i guess my coach thought i could take em. he asked me before the fight if i wanted to take it or not and i say yes. so it was my choice.

The weight difference was just crazy and could've been a serious hazard to your health. Even in Super Heavyweights they're careful who they match you up with. I'm currently 244lbs (111kg) and my coaches won't match me up with anyone under 224lbs (101kg). I don't think it was a wise choice but at least you got through it.

QUESTIONS:

Why are you not training correctly if you should be 145?

You were 165 .. what was it a 20pd. catch weight?
i've never heard of a 20 pd. catch weight!!!..!!

What was your training doing? why would he let you fight someone nearly 20 pounds above you?? and did he know you weren't in shape?

I hate to see miusmatches like this when they could have been avoided.:nonono:

I'd be writing letters if you were my opponent.

I cant help me think the weight difference was able to be seen by the naked eye.

horrible people who set this fight up.
