He was the co-founder of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with Helio Gracie, Royce's dad
Helio was Carlson's uncle I think both were trained by Carlson's father Carlos Gracie. Somthing like that it's hard to remember how that family tree goes.
Carlson split and stated his own form of Gracie Jiu Jitsu and trained Vitor Belfort and a lot of others.

Really I got the wrong story I didn't know he had died.
Thsi is the one I was looking for
NEWPORT, Wash. (Map, News) - Bail was set Monday at $100,000 for a Newman Lake man arrested in the death of an Eastern Washington University student who was dragged by the neck nearly 13 miles behind a pickup truck.
Wendell Sinn Jr., 45, was held for investigation of second-degree murder in the Saturday night dragging death of Jerid Sturman-Camyn, 20, along a rural Pend Oreille County road following a confrontation at a hunting camp.
Sinn made a preliminary appearance in Pend Oreille County Superior Court, where a judge ordered him held on $100,000 bail.
An autopsy Monday showed that Sturman-Camyn, a martial arts expert, died of strangulation, authorities said.
The rope was tied around Sturman-Camyn's neck, Deputy Prosecutor Tony Koures said.
The 17-year-old truck driver, identified only as Sinn's son, told deputies he was unaware anyone had been tied to the truck when he drove away in fear to avoid a confrontation.
According to the Pend Oreille County sheriff's office, the victim had become angry, armed himself with an ax and threatened several people during a drinking party at Sinn's campsite on the east bank of the Pend Oreille River.
Sinn told investigators he was afraid for his safety and for those at the campsite, and during the altercation with Sturman-Camyn told his son to start his pickup truck and "be ready to leave if things got bad."
There were at least eight people at the campsite at the time, investigators said.
While the boy was waiting in the truck, Sinn attached a rope to the truck's trailer hitch and then around Sturman-Camyn's neck, and yelled for the teen to drive, Koures said.
At about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, the teen called authorities and said he believed someone was chasing him down the road with an ax.
At the same time, another person called to report that a pickup truck was driving down the road dragging a body.
Deputies found the 17-year-old parked in the truck on the side of the road, about 13 miles from the campsite. They found Sturman-Camyn dead behind the truck. It is unclear whether the teen driver will face charges.
Sturman-Camyn was studying civil engineering at Eastern Washington after transferring from Washington State University and had been training at the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu club of Spokane for about eight months, The Spokesman-Review newspaper reported Monday.
At WSU, he was one of two students who won dismissal of felony burglary charges when a Whitman County Superior Court judge ruled in May 2006 that campus police exceeded their authority because the students had a "reasonable expectation of privacy in the corridor/hallway" of their dormitory.
He previously was on the football and wrestling teams at Klahowya Secondary School in Silverdale, finishing seventh in the Class AA high school state wrestling tournament in the 189-pound weight class as a junior in 2004 and second as a senior in 2005.
On his Web page on MySpace, he gave his nickname as "Bubba," described himself as an enthusiast of combat sport fighting and wrote, "Ive (sic) been known to get a little wild at times and I like to live by the motto `go big or go home!'"

TBEC2 12-02-2007, 05:44 PM Ur not to far from Palatine bro the 2 best place near u is Flo MMA thats where Carter is training currently as well as Terry Martin, the facility is amazing bro if i lived near it i would defiantly be training there also theres Hackneys combat in Roselle Gideon Ray trains there and the head instructor is UFC legend Keith Hackney. Another route would be Jeff Curran (Gracie Trained WEC #1 contender) down in Crystal Lake a new facility "amazing" top of the line bro. From your location i would look into those 3.... Or if you feel like making the drive to Chicago id love to see you join the Barra family man.

Ok thanks the only problem is with the distance i'd only be able to go on days off from work.
I think i'll try out some of the places around here first Duke Roufus has a kick boxing and MMA gym and theres a few others that have fighters in 'king of the cage' which is out here all the time.
