View Full Version : Sugar Ray Leonard vs John Ruiz
Terry A 11-27-2007, 08:23 PM Lots of people compare Roy Jones Jr to Ray Leonard. But Leonard started as a welterweight and Jones as a middleweight, so Jones would seem to be the naturally bigger fighter. All that being taken into consideration, if Leonard tried his hand at hvy like RJ did, how do you think Ray Leonard would have done against Ruiz?
Thanks!
BiggyGuns91 11-27-2007, 11:04 PM ruiz will run a boxing school on leonard and retire him, no really i think leonard would win an easy decision
Silencers 11-27-2007, 11:41 PM Ruiz by bear hug.
Seriously though Leonard would win a decision.
THE REAL NINJA 11-28-2007, 08:46 AM Ruiz by TKO ,Ray was to small.
slicksouthpaw16 11-28-2007, 08:59 AM Ruiz wouldn't have a chance. Ruiz was dominated badly by blown up middleweights Roy and Toney. Ruiz is really a bum and i don't know how he ever got a title in the first place. :boxing: :boxing: :boxing:
wmute 11-28-2007, 01:36 PM The most Ray could put on would be around 180, so he would be giving away 40 pounds.
Moreover his power would not attract Ruiz attention like Jones' did.
Ruiz by KO.

Ruiz by KO.
Tony had no power at heavyweight and he still dominated Ruiz.

I override the fact that you are on my ignore list, because this is boxing history...
Toney put people on their asses at 160,168,175,190,HW
Leonard never knocked anyone above 154, with the exception of a Lalonde dehydrated of an entire weight class.
you do the math on the power
Toney had one of the best chins in history,
Toney is a naturally bigger man than Leonard,
Toney fights a completely different style than Leonard.
I think Toney, unlike Jones, is completely irrelevant in assessing Leonard's chances against Ruiz.

Leonard would hit and move. just like Roy did. and Ruiz would do nothing but try to hold and hit. he tried to hold Roy and Toney but they were smaller and faster so he couldn't. it would be the same result with Leonard. i don't see how Ruiz is a threat to anyone. he has never even knocked out a top fighter so nothing convinces you that he would knock Leonard out and plus, Leonard has a great chin. and its funny how you act like you are better than everyone else. this a boxing forum, people will make stupid comments, you just have to school them about it instead of being stuck up. this is the wrong place for you if you have a low tolerence for people that say stupid things. :boxing: :boxing: :boxing:

In fact I just schooled you about it.
wmute 11-29-2007, 12:28 PM Also the reason why Ruiz could not hug Toney could be seen clearly on the right side of Ruiz body and it involved punching not moving.
Leonard had a great chin, but nowhere near Toney.
The fact that Ruiz never KOed any top HW does not matter much in assessing his chances to hurt a welterweight. Weight classes are there for a reason.
You see? I am not stuck up, I keep on patiently schooling you on the subject. ;P

Leonard by decision (118-110)
Dynamite76 12-05-2007, 01:35 PM Ruiz by late round TKO.Ray would be giving away too much poundage.
