View Full Version : Jack Johnson Knocked Out the World
Mike Tyson77 11-24-2007, 01:39 AM No Heavyweight Champion had to put up with more BS than Jack did. He reigned for 6 and a half years. No need for long paragraphs, he's simply a top 10 P4P great. :boxing:

sleazyfellow 11-24-2007, 05:31 PM I liked it when tommy burns said "i'll knock that ****** out, or my name isnt tommy burns", and it really wasnt his name, dumbass.

:lol1:....
great fighter but not in my top 10 p4p sorry but he is in my top 10 heavyweights.
where is he in your p4p list?
RossCA 11-24-2007, 08:58 PM It's tough comparing Johnson who paced himself for 20-30+ rounds, to fighters that paced them selves for 12-15 rounds. An ATG IMO.
Mike Tyson77 11-24-2007, 10:09 PM where is he in your p4p list?
Top 5, without dought. The man is a legend.:boxing:
Mike Tyson77 12-01-2007, 02:38 AM where is he in your p4p list?
Very high. No lower than number 5 or 6.
dempsey1919 12-07-2007, 08:44 AM I dont know why people think he's so great just look at the guys he defended his title againgst and he was beat by Marvin heart and also KOed against Joe Choyskie in the 3rd round 1 win over Tommy Burns isnt good enough for me he is great for the history of boxing but not a top p4p fighter

yeah well its quite common for a fighter to go days without eating in those days, even the guy on ur avatar got koed cause of the same exact reason....by a guy johnson fought no less.

agree, but he has a amazing pace considering the 20-30 and wrestling holds(which i know is tiresome).
however i do feel he is kinda overrated as fighter by being the first black hw champ.

I know but I just feel he is overrated for being the first black HW champ and not so much for what he did in the ring

exactly.................
Pariah21388 12-09-2007, 02:16 PM he is the greatest
dempsey1919 12-11-2007, 11:00 PM he is the greatest
explain why you think he is the greatest who did he beat to be considerd the greatest a old Jeffries who had to lose over 100+ pounds to get down to fighting waight after 6 years of retirement or a 5'8 tommy burns who is the smallest heavywaight champ of all time
Mike Tyson77 12-12-2007, 02:28 AM explain why you think he is the greatest who did he beat to be considerd the greatest a old Jeffries who had to lose over 100+ pounds to get down to fighting waight after 6 years of retirement or a 5'8 tommy burns who is the smallest heavywaight champ of all time
Because he knocked out the world. In 1908, EVERYONE said black people where scum and white people where 200% superior. Then Jack goes kicking ass like no tomorrow. Damn, Jack handed out some ass whoppin's.
sterling 12-12-2007, 04:59 AM sam langford is more of a legend then jack johnson and did u know he didnt rematch sam langford because he was afraid of losin his title plus the fight was pretty gd but sam was only a light middle at the time when he fought jack johnson and he knocked him twice twice but jack knocked him down a few times to win on points then when sam became a true heavy he didnt want it.
He wanted to fight white people for more money :P some legend lol but a great fighter indeed top 10 in atg heavywieght.

again that goes for his story as be great for boxing not an atg p4p fighter I dont think he ever handed out an ass whoppin have you ever seen him fight he was a defensev first fighter
Title defenses
Frank Moran 24-9-7 Moran would also lose To Jess Willard
Battling Jim Johnson 12-11-2 Johson Drew with him
Fireman Jim Flynn 30-8-14 he was 47-50-19 when his career ended
Jim Jeffries was coming off of 6 years of retirement
Philadelphia Jack O'Brien Former LHW champ

Wow, Jack Johnson takes a shot from you and you are the one that has Jack Dempsey in your avatar, who fought who? and which black fighters?
Good job
At least he fought Sam Langford...****, maybe if Sam was blind in both eyes, Jack would have fought him. And this is coming from a Jack Dempsey fan, but your **** stinks.
Jack Johnson beat the best black fighters of his time before winning the title.

yeah but I never said Dempsey was the best all I was basicly stating was that Johnson is not a top P4P fighter but has the story to compeat with any in the sport ever
yeah he fought langford but was afraid to rematch him and dempsey had actully signed to fight Wills but it was Tex that would not allow the fight to happen for the fear of race riots

I don't consider him the greatest "fighter" either but he deserves some respect, especially if we combine what you have to deal with inside and outside of the ring.
Everybody doesn't have the same dealings outside which makes it all the more harder.
Dempsey should have told his manager to do the right thing and make the fight, especially since it hurt his legacy. I remember reading about Patterson telling everybody to shove it when told not to fight Liston...see the difference?
From what I read, Tex told Sam he wanted someone easier.
Of course Johnson refused to fight black fighters as well when he won the title, but I guess he felt he had had enough of making low pays against tough opponents that he already beat.
What we are also overlooking is that Johnson challenged Jeffries when he was still Champ and Jim refused to face Jack in the ring.
Johnson also faced the likes of Sam McVey and Joe Jeanette

as much as I hate to admite it the reason Jeffries didnt face johnson was caus it would not generate enuff money even in those days it was about money but jeffries did offer him this he siad we could each enter a room and lock it and the first person to walk out will be the HW champ of the world johnson declind the offer Johnson heart his legacy the same way Dempsey hurt his by not faceing Langford just like dempsey didnt face Willis even though I would favor Dempsey stongly in that match caus he had his best fight against big slow opponents that relied on streanght to win (Willard, Morris who he KOed in 18 sec)

It wouldn't be hard to sell "Black vs. White", especially in those days.
Remember this...yeah, 1933, but still in the Black/White era. Biggest Gate opening, so no excuses.
http://www.the-artel.ca/wp/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/king-kong.jpg
Jeffries followed what others told him to do, do not give a black fighter a chance at the title and he stuck with it.
The down in the cellar challenge is a joke. No respectful person would take that challenge, especially if you are black and come out the winner. Imagine just coming out of a tough fight with Jeffries...walking back up stairs while Jim is laid out on the basement floor. Now you are fatigued and have a bunch of White rednecks who have had a few drinks and all of sudden grown balls because they see a tired brotha by himself, while they out number him.
Plus, no money and few to witness it.
Good job.

what does king kong have to do with this and BTW I agree with you on the Challange Jeffries made

Think fast, then thinks slow when you think about why I chose King Kong.
Going back to Jeffries and Dempsey. I don't think either feared any fighter of their era, but the one problem I have with them is that they still allowed their manager to dictate who they fought, which still leaves room for the possibility they may have indeed feared some fighters, which specifically points to, not fighting black fighters after they won the title, which is also why I brought about Patterson.

Still cant figure that out iv never seen the movi none of them
i think with Dempsey Tex was the first real promotor of the sport and Kearns was the first real manager and dempsey was right inbetween them know tell me if you were a fighter in his day and age would you say screw you to you promotor and manager and fight the best or go were the money was also remember demsey grew up poor like alot from that time and probably wanted to earnt he most money as possible so he would never be in that osition again
Jeffries struck fear in many fighters the same way Tyson Did in he 80's Joe Jennete (sp) used to advertise he would fight any man on the planet except jeffries so that was prob his problem

Dempsey had one of the best promoter/manager in boxing history, no question, but Dempsey is still a MAN and still is the fighter.
You have to remember that if you are Dempsey, and came from a poor, hard background, there are others as well coming up that did too and deserve the same shot. For example, read down below my Dempsey quotes, if you haven't noticed before.
Again, this is why I brought up Patterson. I think even JFK advised him not to fight Liston, but Floyd knew what was right and stood up as a MAN.
Sugar Ray Robinson stood up against the Mob, Jack Johnson was on his own, I’m sure Jeffries and Dempsey could have done the same.
Have you ever thought why a Black Man, who paraded himself in fine jewelry, fur coats, fast cars, WHITE women, and just a Grand lifestyle, Heavyweight Champion of the World, embarrassing his white opponents by wearing them down, toying with them, laughing it up, was able to walk around without being lynched in a time when lynching was in style?
Johnson wasn't afraid of Jeffries, Jim should have fought him.
Dempsey should have fought the brothas as well.
It's the only thing that hurts me when talking about Jack, other than that, he is still one of my favorites.
But listen, nobody is perfect and even the best can be followers. Ali was still a follower in other things, depsite willing to fight the best in boxing. Tyson screwed up big time, amongst others.
A very select few would have done differently than Jeffries and Dempsey, so that I could agree with.

Ive seen several Johnson fights, i find them very exciting. He DID hand out the ass whoopins. And beat many great fighters and held the HW title for over 6 years.

King Kong: Big, Strong, Handsome, Confident, Awe-inspiring, Athletic, Intelligent Gorilla, worshipped and feared on an far away, obscure Island, by the natives, catches the eye of a Filmmaker who decides to make a movie involving Kong and a beautiful blond hair Angel. The premise of the script the Filmmaker was making was about how a beautiful women could fog the mind of a Big, Strong, Confident, Handsome, Awe-inspiring, Athletic, Intelligent, Silverback male, by letting his guard down and sapping his strengths. To let loose and be swayed and controlled by a beautiful Flower/Angel.
Filming starts.
On break, the Island natives sneak in a capture the Angel to sacrifice to Kong, in exchange for good Karma. Kong, on first site of the beautiful Angel-Flower, instantly falls in love and takes her back to his home, the jungle. While traveling back home, the film crew make chase towards Kong to get back their Star/Angel. Kong, with his great sense of warning of an attack, gently places Angel in a tree for safety.
King Kong, physique greater than a Greek Statue to the Gods, which would also make Hercules weep, proceeds to go back and ***** slaps them all, killing almost all. But oh no, Kong has left his angel defenseless and here comes a Dinosaur. "Whatz up *****, that's my women" {Kong replies to Dino}. "Na son, that's my cunny" {replies Dino}. Break ya self-MF. Wham! Bam! Slam! Rip.....
http://www.totalfilm.com/__data/assets/thumbnail/355834/varieties/4.jpg
Kong wins by ripping Dino's face apart. Kong, adrenaline pumping, muscles swollen, proud, goes over to his Angel who saps the aggressive energy right out of him. Kong, although soft in the heart is hard below and starts foreplay, caressing her cunny and getting her wet

until he is rudely ****-blocked by the “man.” But it’s not only the “man” there, a large beast (paid, no doubt by the Man) is there as well, looking to get a piece of the action.
While King is engaged in a tough battle to protect his love, the sneaky bastards {the “man”} swoops in and steals Angel back.
After a tough battle, Kong comes back to find his Angel missing. Angered, he knows who is responsible; it was the “man.” Kong, enraged and left with a hard-on, follows the pleasant scent of his Flower. The lovely scent leads him back to the village. The villagers locked the gates of the fortress to prevent Kong from getting in, but they forgot one thing, this is Motha-****ing Kong. Kong bashes the door down with a big roar saying, “Where’s my motha ****in Queen?” then proceeds to kill all in his path. But, it was a setup. The “man” was prepared and gassed Kong, knocking him out cold. They chain him up, put him on the boat, and bring him back to the States, NY to be exact. There plan is to control Kong, make him fear them, and parade him around to the people all while making them Rich. But they forgot one motha ****in thing, this is King “all the ladies love me and I’ll kick your ass if you step” Kong.
While at the theatre, Kong in chains, ready to be paraded and poked at in front of the people, led by the “man”, Kong, in an almost sedate manner, awakens to the scent of his Flower. He sees his love, Angel, the only women who can control him, the only soul he loves. Kong, doe eyed for his love is relaxed because she is there, but oh no, Kong sees something…a crowd of people are snapping bright lights/taking pictures of his love. Kong senses she is in trouble and bursts out of the “man’s” chains to protect his Flower.
{Kong} “Whatz up motha ****as, I’m going to kill yo azzes”…and proceeds to do so, destroying all in his path.
Kong goes after his Flower and finds her. He carries her up to safety in the biggest tree he could find, which is the Empire State building. He places her oh so gently down, with his eyes saying, “Hey baby, you look fine tonight…you are my Queen” then proceeds to Sing to her.
I'm, I'm so in love with you
Whatever you want to do
Is alright with me
'Cause you make me feel, so brand new
And I want to spend my life with you
Me sayin' since, baby, since we've been together
Ooo, loving you forever
Is what I need
Let me, be the one you come running to
I'll never be untrue
Ooo baby
Let's, let's stay together
Loving you whether, whether
Times are good or bad, happy or sad
Oooo oooo ooo ooo, yeah
Whether times are good or bad, happy or sad
Why somebody, why people break up
Oh, and turn around and make up
I just can't seeeeeeeee
You'd never do that to me
(Would you baby)
'Cause being around you is all I see
It's why I want us to
Let's, let's stay together
Loving you whether, whether
Times are good or bad, happy or sad
Let's, let's stay together
Loving you whether, whether{lyrics by Al Green}

Good movie(s) indeed, including the remake.

ferocity 12-16-2007, 02:33 PM No Heavyweight Champion had to put up with more BS than Jack did. He reigned for 6 and a half years. No need for long paragraphs, he's simply a top 10 P4P great. :boxing:
