View Full Version : Froch: the next big thing?
PeROxiDE 11-19-2007, 01:09 PM After his victory over Robin Reid, Carl Froch is being hailed as a rising start of British boxing. I, however, am still unconvinced. He looked distinctly average against what was, lets be honest, an old **** star. Joe Calzaghe beat Reid when Reid was in his prime and he receives little or no credit for this, yet Froch beats him when hes shot and hes the next big thing to come out of Britain. I have seen a few other Froch fights, and he seems to be looking avergae against bad opposition in most of them, with a few good KO's his only redeeming feature, am I missing something, or is Froch as hyped as I suspect he may be?
Welter_Skelter 11-19-2007, 01:12 PM I think he is very UNDERATED...
I think alot of people dont understand his VERY unorthodox style.. and assume he is sloppy and gets hit too much...
I see it for what it is.. A trap...
I seriously think he would beat Calzaghe .. and just about anyone else at SMW.. I think Kessler might be his only real problem..
col Blake 11-19-2007, 01:34 PM he has'nt fought anyone of any note and he is shouting his mouth off about fighting Joe the slapper, if he takes on Kessler and KOs him then I will give him credit but at the min he is nothing and needs to improve very very quickly, and I hope he does.

Surely even if he is just pretending to be sloppy, that means he is fighting sloppy? Sloppy enough to be KO'd when he steps up?
Personally I didnt think he was THAT sloppy, I just didnt see anything really great in what he was doing. I turned on to the Froch vs Reid fight hoping it would be a good fight without a care in the world as to the victor. Put Froch in with the Reid who, IMO, scored at least a draw with Calzaghe, and Froch would be handed his ass. Hes a good fighter, but I struggle to see how he can up his game to become great.
As for beating Calzaghe, no disrespect intended but you either over rate Froch or under rate Calzaghe. Calzaghe could end up in prison, cos he would murder Froch.

Excuse me, but you my man are a hypocrite !

I perhaps over rate Froch.. I would NEVER underestimate Joe Calzaghe.. I am well aware what he is.. He has my Total respect... I do not think Froch can win any rounds against Calzaghe.. I certainly believe he can Knock Him out though... It's hard to sell me on Power.. But Froch in my Opinion is the hardest puncher at 168 I have ever seen.. His Skills are good enough to ensure no matter how good the guy in from of him is.. HE WILL LAND... anyways Its all just speculation.. It's A fight that will never happen which is kinda too bad..
porlie 11-19-2007, 03:23 PM I'd say Froch was overrated, hes beat a has been Reid but that doesnt mean Froch is the next big thing at SMW.
~RockyDempsey~ 11-19-2007, 03:26 PM On the world stage of Super-Middleweight boxing, I doubt Carl Froch could contend with the likes of Allan Green, Jeff Lacy, Jean Pascal, Joe Calzaghe, Jermain Taylor, etc.
msagrain 11-19-2007, 03:29 PM i think he will win a world title but dont expect him to be a round for to long.

Hold Up, Jeff Lacy may not be the best Super-Middleweight out their, but he is the former IBF champion and could surely beat Froch

belive me froch has a lot more power and speed than lacey and froch can sure box.

how am I a hypocrite you dum ****, at the min Froch is a nobody, but a KO of Kessler will cive him the platform to shout his mouth off.

You will give Froch credit for beating Kessler (which wont happen anyway).
But you fail to give Joe credit by calling him the slapper !
As i said your a hypocrite ! .... u dum **** !
kamicazze 11-19-2007, 05:28 PM he will be a world champ but i dont see him dominating

Are you some sort of arsehole, I think Joe is a slapper, it's my opinion, if you don't like what other people write then pissoff from here, Joe was fav to win Kessler were as Froch is unproven, makeing a win over Kessler a bigger deal than Joe the slapper winning.

A bigger deal, yes, but deserving of more credit, no. Unfortunately hes right, your whole attitude to Calzaghe and Froch stinks of hypocrisy.
col Blake 11-20-2007, 04:13 PM I don't think I'm a hypocrite by saying that Froch would deserve more credit for beating Kessler that Joe got, Froch is unproven would not be fav to win had less fights than Joe, so yes he would get more credit for fighting a very good opp at a far earlier stage than joe, we just disagree no biggy.

Please tell me you are joking mate, he has good power but thats going a touch too far.

Funny that you laugh about Lacy, I was laughing about Jean Pascal, lol
stark 11-21-2007, 07:41 PM World Class power i think, everything else is average. I think he will really stuggle against anyone who thows in combination, he has an odd style but sooner or later hes going to have to face someone who can punch back and that's when he will struggle cause he doesnt work hard enuff, i dont think we have seen the best of him yet but times not exactly on his side
Orange Sneakers 11-22-2007, 12:05 AM In a word, yes
Orange Sneakers 11-22-2007, 12:05 AM (that's the next big thing)
phallus 11-22-2007, 02:31 AM a win over a washed up robin reid means nothing, the reid lacy beat was much better. reid deserves more respect, he's a four time world champ, and gave calzaghe his toughest fight. i'd like to see froch in against a real contender, but when that happens he'll probably be knocked the **** out
mickeyb 11-22-2007, 09:39 AM i dont think critics or fans (other than Notts residents) overrate Froch.
The person who over rates Froch are himself and his team. He talks big, and talks about the big time. He calls out all the top lads and has been asking for the table scraps from Calzaghes career for years.
If Froch is reading this - listen Carl, you before you can run your mouth off like you are - you need to fight someone of some class and decency.
You may well be as good as you say you are. But we need proof.
Robin Reid was a step in the direction - but its not good enough. You need to take a risk... like Lacy was to Calzone.
It will make or break you. But thats what you have to do, if you want the credit that you so sorely wish to have.
Welter_Skelter 11-22-2007, 11:04 AM Please tell me you are joking mate, he has good power but thats going a touch too far.
I am deadly serious..... His power is phenoeminal at 168...
col Blake 11-22-2007, 12:31 PM world class power will only take you so far, Hamed was said to have world class power, yet he could'nt hurt wayne Mcculloch (who said Daniel Zaragoza hit a lot harder)and Barrera worked through every the little girl had to offer,
But I do hope Froch goes on to get a world title then a super fight with Joe might just happen
NO FEAR 11-22-2007, 01:15 PM **** style, **** defense, is way to big for his boots, and has a giant ****ing witch-like nose. Just doesn't do it for me. The Reid fight only served to show us just how ****e Froch is.

the only person I no who can smell a punch coming
Brian13 11-22-2007, 05:23 PM Carl Froch over hyped not a chance he is hardly talked about compared to Amir Kahn who in my opinion is ****ey and no way he deserves a world title shot soon because 1. he has had 12 professional and is the commonwealth champion and wants a world title shot within his next 5 fights and 2. Frank Warren is giving him only the easiest opponents why did he go for the commonwealth title before the british title when most fighters go for the british title and if they win it then they go for the commonwealth title, John Thaxton must be too good for Amir Kahn and might hand him his first defeat so Frank Warren gave Amir Kahn a fight with Willie Limond who won that fight by knockout but the referee had Kahn's back and didn't count beyond seven when the actual count was thirteen but the referee couldn't care who Willie Limond was and what title he held but what title Amir Kahn wanted.
