View Full Version : I just watched all three Godfather movies back to back...
The Jake 04-21-2003, 11:44 AM It was a tough challenge, but I was dedicated to not moving my ass for nine hours or so.
I'd like to thank my parents for not yelling at me to take a shower.
I'd like to thank Arju of being supportive.
And I'd like to thank God for making all things possible.
PS: I almost cried in the last scene of Godfather III when Michael Corleone and his daughter get shot and he's there screaming for her. Riveting stuff.

Kempo Chris 04-21-2003, 11:47 AM u should of stopped after the first two
Prince 04-21-2003, 11:50 AM i can't make it past 20 minutes of any 3.
The Jake 04-21-2003, 11:51 AM I felt that Andy Garcia's character was rather two dimensional and didn't get the full showing of his capacity as an actor. Then again, I feel that way about every role he takes on.
Andy needs a single dedicated lead role to showcase his talent. A good director and screenplay writer is not enough (if Francis Ford Coppolla & Mario Puzo couldn't do it, nobody could IMHO).
My highlight was seeing Robert De Niro play a young Vito Corleone. Very interesting although I wish we could have seen more of Robbie here. A true show case of his diversity as an actor IMHO.

Neither did I until today. But I was dedicated.
Arju was concerned I wouldn't be ok for work but I explained I was more dedicated to finishing these movies than the last three days of work this week (I finish my contract this Thursday).
Anyway, time for four hours of sleep.
Cheers all,
- The Jake
The Jake 04-21-2003, 11:54 AM I takes a certain level of commitment to refuse to brush your teeth, shave or shower and revel on your own sloth and watch movies for over nine hours straight.
(I even squeezed in an episode of '24').
With commitment, time, a dedicated mindset and a full fridge, all things are possible.

handjobs4dollars 04-21-2003, 12:07 PM I have never seen a single Godfather movie.
Squezze 04-21-2003, 12:32 PM The Godfather movies are the ****. I'll be getting the DVD boxed set very soon. It will be mine. Oh yes. It will be mine.
zioxoiz 04-21-2003, 12:33 PM got em all on divx, they are the best.
handjobs4dollars 04-21-2003, 12:41 PM The next dvd AI want to get is the band of brothers set. It's been out for like 6 months and I still haven't gotten it.

Dude, that **** is LONG. I forget how long it is, but it's something like 10 hours.
LukeDothSucketh 04-21-2003, 12:56 PM I watched all 10 hours of Band of Brothers on Christmas, I was up till about 4 am when I fell asleep somewhere on the tenth episode. When you watch them all in a row you get attached to the characters, it was like watching the best, longest, war movie ever
HockeyFighter 04-21-2003, 01:49 PM It's not that bad. And it is 11 1/2 hours if you watch the documentary after too. I just finished watching it again. I try to watch 2-3 hours a day and space it out over a few days. I've watched the whole series probably 6 times now.
handjobs4dollars 04-21-2003, 01:52 PM It cost too much. I have to save up the money from about a months worth of dvd and video game purchase's.

If you read how much of a Monster Luca Brassi was in the book you would be glad to see him slaughtered.
The Jake 04-21-2003, 09:00 PM What is Band of Brothers?
And what did Luca Brassi do? We all know he wasn't a nice fellow....

gay **** I'm buying it as a gift for dogg.
It's actually a very good ww2 series that was one hbo. The one bad part about it is. You don't even hear of the other counties that were in the war except britian and the russians are named like once. Americans wants everybody to think that they won the war.
HockeyFighter 04-21-2003, 09:28 PM Bah, you know nothing. It's the story of the easy company of the 506th airborne. Takes you through their assignment in taking out German artillery on D-day, operation Market-Garden, the seige at Bastogne, sneak raids to take prisionsers, the discovery of concentration camps and then them just hanging out in the Eagle's Nest till the end of the war. Directed by Tom Hanks and Spielberg.
handjobs4dollars 04-21-2003, 09:33 PM I know that moron I already watched it and that concentration camp one was depressing but I loved it when they made all the people in the german town dig the graves and when they stole their food to feed the jews. Those bastards needed to learn.
HockeyFighter 04-21-2003, 09:45 PM It wasn't depressing. It was funny. Dead people are funny, silly.
handjobs4dollars 04-21-2003, 09:51 PM true.
handjobs4dollars 04-21-2003, 09:53 PM This is the most sick owned picture ever and isn't funny at all and shouldn't be laughed at. I don't know why I'm posting it but it is wrong dammit.

handjobs4dollars 04-21-2003, 09:56 PM End of the month. Dammit leafs had to many men on the ice and the flyers are on the power play in ot.
HockeyFighter 04-21-2003, 09:57 PM Looks like TO had the PP to me. Philly did ****.

have you seen them before jarrod? yeah, its my goal in life to do that one day too...
The Jake 04-21-2003, 10:44 PM I've only ever seen bits and pieces of all three, typically so disjoined that I was lost...
At best, an hour into them and stopped it.
But they really are fantastic viewing. Highly recommended.

Band of Brothers was a TV show on HBO, My Bro, Dad and I would watch it all the time. It was really well done.

JasonLeonardOBE 04-22-2003, 07:06 AM I like the part where the guy in Vegas gets shot through his eyeglasses while getting a massage.
Luca Brassi talking to himself at the wedding was pretty funny too.

I have em all on DVD, the most I ever did was watch each of them once thru, then watch it directly after again with the director's commentary on - the director's commentary was the ****.
The best trilogy ever imo - 3 was not as good as the first two, but that was only because of sophia being a bad actor, in all other respects it is still better than 98% of **** hollywood churns out.

being a hitman that is a given, they mention in the book how he starts cutting a guy apart while his friend watched tied to a chair and gagged. the guy got so scared he choked on his gag.
he also had a relation with a Irish whore. She gave birth to a child that Luca considered a "half-breed". It was this little fact that had Luca take the mid-wife down to the basement of the apartment building and throw the live baby in the furnace.
the mid-wife was so scared that she knew of the atrocity Don Vito moved her and her husband to Sicily, The woman then only told the story years later to Michael when she found out Luca was dead.

cold hearted mofo! they really should have fleshed him out more, as well as the "twins" in Godfather III, also they should have introduced Hymen Roth in the first godfather as well as Don Altobello.

I gotta agree here.
If Hyman Roth and Altobello were such pivotal people to Don Vito & Don Michael's ascension to power you'd figure they'd feature more prominent roles in the story....
Luca Brassi sounds like a real charmer.
Aaron - I take it you read the original novel? What's it like? Any major discrepancies between the book and the films?
- The Jake
Aaron Bizarre 04-22-2003, 04:52 PM I think Marlon Brando played one of the best adapted characters from book to movie, he is right up there with Toshiro Mifune in "Shogun"
The novel goes into more detail about the supporting chracters as well.
know the guy who found the horse head in his bed? he molests a 10 year old girl who is pimped out by her mother, Tom Hagen sees her leave the estate walking funny and crying. He thought he would not tell that to the Don so he wouldnt behave "Irrationaly"
The Jake 04-22-2003, 06:48 PM That's a bit excessive for the screen... definately not required. And knowing Don Vito, pretty sure that movie director would wake up with his own head detached from his body.
- The Jake
realkaps 04-23-2003, 12:53 AM I just cant get into these movies.....
