I would lean towards Pavlik because he is a recking ball and could probably stop Hearns late when he faded. plus Hearns did not did not have a good chin at middleweight. i wouldn't be shocked if Hearns won either, he was also a recking ball and had underrated boxing skills. what you think?

I think we could see another Iran Barkey vs Thomas Hearns 1 moment happening.

yeah but Pavlik is a lot bigger and stronger than Barkley and he never takes a step back. this would be a very exciting fight while it lasted.

Barkley knocked out Hearns in the first fight after being busted up for most of the previous three rounds. I could see that happening here. Hearns chin was always there for the finding and he's finished a few fights on his back; his stamina also wasn't very reliable.

Hearns would be facing someone as freakishly tall and long at middleweight as him, who is possibly a heavier hitter. Hearns has a huge hand speed advantage but Pavlik has proved to be durable and very tight defensively when he stays focused, and his hard accurate punching could force Hearns to fight backwards, which as evident by the Hagler fight is something he doesn't do well against a heavy handed fighter. With Pavlik being so young it is tough to compare but as of now, I would lean towards him in this match up. Hearns best chance would be to overwhelm Pavlik early with his quick combos, which I wouldn't completely rule out happening.

Please. Hearns outboxed Leonard. Hearns would keep Pavlik at bay for the round or two he'd need to land his big right. Pavlik barely got out of the second round against Taylor. He wouldn't against Hearns.

If they fought ten times, Pavlik might catch Hearns once or twice, but we're talking different leagues of talent here.

No doubt Hearns is better all round fighter but its just stylistically Pavlik has the style to trouble Hearns similar to Barkley.

"Please. Hearns outboxed Leonard."

Hearns was the much larger stalker in the Leonard fights, so that might be a bad comparision. The bigger heavy handed Iran Barkley is a much better comparision but even than, his defense was weak and unlike Pavlik he wasn't the real aggressor until the closing seconds. As mentioned, Hagler would even be a better comparison because of his aggressive style, durability, and capable power.

"If they fought ten times, Pavlik might catch Hearns once or twice, but we're talking different leagues of talent here."

Hearns was an offensive beast but I can't see him winning with his defense. He was never very durable and he got caught with his chin out more than a few times. He also looked awkward and jittery when he was forced to back up as he would most likely be doing against Pavlik. His questionable conditioning and stamina makes him even more vunerable, I mean Ray Leonard almost knocked him out of the ring and though his power was underrated he was never a big puncher.

"Pavlik barely got out of the second round against Taylor. He wouldn't against Hearns."

Obviously if Pavlik gets caught napping like that, Hearns would make him pay. However, Pavlik seems to keep things considerably tighter most of the time so it's not really something I would bank on.

Ray Leonard does not have the same style as Pavlik so you cannot compare that fight at all. if Pavlik made it through the first few rounds, he should fine because Hearns fades late. Thats when Pavlik would start to back Hearns up and land those big right hands.

I think Pavlik would win the fight by like round KO. Hearns would be winning the fight on the scorecards until he slowed down. Pavlik never stops coming forward and I don't think Hearns can keep Pavlik away for the duration of the fight. Pavlik by come from behind KO.

I dont know really.. Both hig punchers.. but hearns dont have the best chin..

If Hearns had a better chin I think he would be in the top 5 all time greats..

Ill still pick hearns in this one though..
