View Full Version : Mayorga: Tito a poor shell!
borikua 09-21-2004, 09:05 PM September 21, 2004
By Karl Freitag
"I can't wait to get my hands on Tito," said former WBC/WBA welterweight champion Ricardo Mayorga today from the Fight Club Gym in Miami. Mayorga, who faces former three division champion Felix Trinidad on October 2, said Tito is a "poor shell" of his former self and predicted an easy knockout. For legal reasons, he would not comment on his recent legal problems in Nicaragua, but stated "the problems that I have really haven't been any problem. They pretty much slide off me. At this point I find myself readily prepared to take on Tito."
Below are more quotes from the always colorful Ricardo Mayorga:
Why he's confident of a KO victory:
Generally good boxers don't go down that easy. We know that Tito has a weak chin and I think think it's going to be easy knocking him out.....From the first round I'll be looking for the knockout.....I predict the fight will end between rounds three and five. I really don't want to cause the Trinidad family any more grief, so I ask the father to stay close and not let the fight go on any longer than needed.
On Tito's two-year layoff:
It will affect him immensely. Tito is basically retired from boxing and a boxer who retires from boxing no longer has it in his heart. I think Tito's not going to be the Tito of old. He's going to be a poor shell of himself on October 2.
On the prospects of the fight going a decision:
In order to Trinidad to last with me for twelve rounds, he's going to have to be born again with a new jaw because there's no way he's going to withstand my pressure.
On the $100,000 bet with Trinidad:
It's a real bet. It's not putting any sort of pressure on me. In fact, I'm going to make sure he pays me the $100,000 after the fight. WIth that money, I'm going to buy myself a limousine in Nicargua and name it 'Tito' so everyone can remember when I knocked out Tito.
On fighting before a hostile crowd in the Garden:
In the type of shape I find myself right now training here in Miami at the Fight Club, I think there are going to be no distractions whatsoever. We have to keep in mind that there might be 16,000 Puerto Ricans in the stands, but I'm only fighting one in the ring, Tito Trinidad, so he'd better watch out.
On Oscar De La Hoya vs Bernard Hopkins:
I thought it was a boring fight.....My respects to Oscar. He proved to me that he was brave standing in front of Bernard, trying to take the fight to him. I respect his decision to stay down on the canvas although I think he could have gotten up. I think his time is up and I think it's my time now.
On future opponents he'd like to face.
Oscar De La Hoya, Bernard Hopkins, Shane Mosley, Fernando Vargas, Winky Wright.....if I come down [in weight] it would be to 154 pounds. That would be the lowest I'd go.....or they can come to 160.
neils7147933 09-21-2004, 09:11 PM Gotta love Mayorga.
He can talk all the talk he wants - he'll back it up Oct. 2 with a 3rd round KO.
Dr Cynical 09-21-2004, 09:20 PM Sounds about right.
Here's to an easy KO from Mayorga.
Remember what this man says.

Dr Cynical 09-21-2004, 09:21 PM He's a clown, he gonna get ktfo... :D
No way a real fighter can be knocked out by a *****.
Not even if the ***** is using casts again.
ghostbear 09-21-2004, 09:49 PM Easy night for Tito. Mayorga will be lucky to see round 6. Mayorga has a good chin but so did Vargas. It takes skill to beat Tito. I like Mayorga so this is gonna be a tough fight to watch. I like Tito too so it'll be fun to watch. So many complications come up when you're a fan of both fighters. I might as well just cheer for Tito since he's gonna win.
Memorex 09-21-2004, 10:15 PM vargas good chin? how you figure that? lol
Eyeh8you 09-21-2004, 10:17 PM Im 50/50 on this and thats for real.
PS
Vargas has never had a chin
ghostbear 09-21-2004, 10:25 PM Vargas had never been down before he fought Trinidad. Should I have expected him to have a glass jaw because he had never been knocked down?
Cleary23 09-21-2004, 10:56 PM I honestly hope MAyorga gets k****ed the **** out by Tito and then Tito fights DLH
Hurlex 09-21-2004, 11:02 PM great line by mayorga:a fighter that retires and then comes back doesnt come back with his heart...he said it again in this interview again just a lil different..but i like that line

"Tito" the ***** isn't a legend, far from it.
He will be just another overrated ***** getting his ass knocked out.
Sir_Jose 09-22-2004, 12:46 AM Ok Dr_Cynical
here's a deal for you. This fight is right around the corner.
I'll bet you ALL the points I have against ALL the points you have at the time of the fight that Tito wins.
since you seem so confident that Mayoirga will destroy "The *****" Tito Trinidad as you call him
how bout it?
winner take all
Tito=Me
Mayorga=You
how bout it? a winner takes all bet...you know unless your scared

That's not exactly fair.
You only have 900, I have alot more than you do.
I'll bet 1,000 since you're not too far away from that number and I'd like to keep some points for other bets.
So 1,000 for Mayorga to win.
Happy?
Sir_Jose 09-22-2004, 01:13 AM *****
I'll bet whatever I got at the time of the fight and you match it.
sounds good
Dr Cynical 09-22-2004, 01:15 AM *****
I'll bet whatever I got at the time of the fight and you match it.
sounds good
Sounds fair, unlike the previous suggestion.
Sir_Jose 09-22-2004, 01:17 AM I just figured you were sooo confident in this fight because all you do is talk about what a big ***** Tito is.
guess your not that confident after all...but hey whatever
Dr Cynical 09-22-2004, 01:34 AM I just figured you were sooo confident in this fight because all you do is talk about what a big ***** Tito is.
guess your not that confident after all...but hey whatever
lol The only reason you keep pushing this is due to the fact that if you lose you don't lose much.
However, if you win, you'd win alot more than I'd get from you.
So we will just stick to what was said earlier and leave it at that.
Sir_Jose 09-22-2004, 01:41 AM *cough*******cough*
Dr Cynical 09-22-2004, 01:42 AM *cough*******cough*
Mmhmm..
Cheap bastard.
/without the typed out coughing noises. ;)
Sir_Jose 09-22-2004, 01:44 AM hey listen I cant blame you
I wouldn't want to bet all my money against Tito either. Especially when he's fighting a bum like Mayorga
Dr Cynical 09-22-2004, 01:46 AM hey listen I cant blame you

Ah yes, more taunting.
Not going to work Jose.
Unless you magically reach 5,000 points, you won't get me to bet all my points. :p
At least Mayorga doesn't have to use casts to win. ;)
Sir_Jose 09-22-2004, 01:48 AM Ah yes, more taunting.
Not going to work Jose.
*sighs*
damn it!!!

ghostbear 09-22-2004, 02:41 AM Mayorga is gonna get beat alot worse than DLH did.
PRboxingfan 09-22-2004, 08:21 AM Why do you keep saying that Tito used casts? The way his father wraps his hands never improved power; on the contrary, they are meant to reduce risk of injury to the hand and, as such, are more of a cushion to the fist (thereby reducing the power of the punch). People, use your God-given brain and ask yourself how adding a layer of gauze could've improved punching power. Let me punch you with my hands wrapped like Tito wrapped them and then with my bare fist and you tell me which one hurts more, deal?
Bernard used the excuse as a psycological tactic. The NYSAC (New York State Athletic Commision) said that the hand wraps were legal but asked Tito to redo them anyway because of how adamant Hopkins was about the issue. So, quit talking out of your ass and get the facts.
As for this fight, Mayorga will not get past the 5th round, as he so eloquently predicted. He calls the fight to end between rounds 3 and 5; he's absolutely right! He can't take the power Tito brings to the table.
As for a retired fighter staying retired: what about Foreman, Sugar Ray Leonard, Mohammad Ali, and all the other countless fighters who have retired and then came back to win championships? Flawed logic, that's all.
That's not exactly fair.

cynical, i'd like to get in on this bet as well, this is easy money. just match my points at the time of the fight, like jose said, me=tito you=mayorga.

yeah, logic would tell you that. really good post.

Way to go, PRBoxing fan...
This is a myth that continues to carry on through the jealous stupidity of Trinidad-haters.
The only way it helps Tito's power, is that the way his hands are wrapped allows him to throw his punches without worry of injury.
Do you clowns who believe this bunk realize that 99% of the time Tito fights he uses Reyes gloves ?
yes....Reyes gloves are already close to the fist, & rock hard as far as boxing gloves go.
To think some extra tape & gauze can lead to such dramatic results....get a damn life, please.

I shall do the same, i am gunning for tito to win also.
I have some in the bank gaining interest but i will give you what i have when the time comes. You will be a rich man Jose ;)
Eyeh8you 09-22-2004, 05:14 PM While i do think tito will be the biggest fight of El Matadores career. To say he gonna definetly get KTFO or he cant handle Titos poer is funny. Where is your prove he can't handle it?
I'm 50/50 on this fight. Mayorga is what he is. However, is Tito all or any bit of what he once was? Thats why I give El Matodor a 50/50 chance. I say there realy is no smart money bet on this one. However, I will be fukin glued to the TV for this one ;)

jack_the_rippuh 09-23-2004, 05:20 PM I feel sorry for Tito..all of his fans better hope he gets injured before the fight..

It's because I have other bets going on.
Not just this one.
Like I said, if he has more, I'll put up the same amount.
Dr Cynical 09-23-2004, 05:31 PM I feel sorry for Tito..all of his fans better hope he gets injured before the fight..
lol He will.
He'll break a nail and claim serious injury.
Or he'll see a PR flag touch the ground and claim emotional instability.
He's such a *****. :p
ghostbear 09-23-2004, 05:43 PM Mayorga has as good a chance to beat Tito as DLH did to beat Hopkins. Mayorgas awesome but he's goin to sleep!
Sir_Jose 09-23-2004, 06:22 PM Dr_Cynical is gonna be hanging out with Tyson in the homeless shelter after he gets rolled in this Tito/Mayorga fight
Im down with 2000 Cynical

lol Even if I do lose, which I won't.
I'll still have like 3,000 left in the bank.
Sir_Jose 09-23-2004, 06:34 PM thats only because your too scared to take a winner take all bet
Dr Cynical 09-23-2004, 06:40 PM thats only because your too scared to take a winner take all bet
Not scared, just two reasons why I won't do it.
1. You don't have the same amount of points as I do.
2. I have other bets.
Sir_Jose 09-23-2004, 06:48 PM yup....sounds scared to me
Dr Cynical 09-23-2004, 06:53 PM yup....sounds scared to me
Sounds like you just don't want to gather enough points to make this bet fair.
Or maybe, you do have the points but are afraid yourself that "Tito" the ***** will get his ass kicked.
Sir_Jose 09-23-2004, 06:58 PM how do you gather points so fast?
The only way I get points is by posting
Dr Cynical 09-23-2004, 08:18 PM how do you gather points so fast?
The only way I get points is by posting
To be honest, I don't know.
All I do is post, give karma, receive karma, and play the arcade games.
PRboxingfan 09-24-2004, 01:34 PM I'd like for Cynical to answer my last post. I guess he just can't argue with logic.
I think Tito will KO Mayorga simply because we haven't seen Mayo take the type of power that Tito brings to the ring. He might've had a granite chin in the lower weight classes, but we'll have to see how he does in the Middleweights.
I'm sure if I said that Bernard would KO Mayo nobody would argue it. We can see, by looking at the Joppy fights, that Tito has more power than Bernard. Now, do you still want to say that Tito won't KO Mayo?
Sure, why not?
cool, "the *****" is gonna make my account fatter.
Dr.CynicalsDaddy 09-30-2004, 06:29 PM Dr. Cynical...When did you fight Trinidad again? was it in 1999? Cause you are real quick to refer ti him as *****, but...something tells me, If you shared a cell with Tito, he would be the man. Funny right? *****!
Mexican huh? Sorry for what we did to Vargas....Hahahahahaha
Jiggaman6810 10-01-2004, 02:02 AM As much as I like Tito i think this is a very dangerous fight for him. He definitly has the edge in power but Mayorga is fast, strong, and very unpreditable. His chin being made of granite doesn't hurt either. My gut says Tito in 7 but im gonna be glued to the screen.
Dr Cynical 10-01-2004, 02:19 AM Dr. Cynical...When did you fight Trinidad again? was it in 1999? Cause you are real quick to refer ti him as *****, but...something tells me, If you shared a cell with Tito, he would be the man. Funny right? *****!

lol As I previously stated in another thread, you are in desperate need of some sense.
Although I'm not a big guy or a fighter, I'm pretty sure "Tito" would be the *****.
His face, his style, and his way of just giving up when being pressured or put down makes me think he wouldn't do well in jail.
As for my race, here's how it breaks down.
Mexican/German/Puerto Rican/Spanish/Indian
Btw, I don't give a **** about Vargas.
I was actually happy to see Trinidad beat the **** out of that ****er.
Sir_Jose 10-01-2004, 02:59 AM i told you this guy was a CHICKEN GAY
he gave away all his money instead of losing it by betting on Mayorga

lol I've already got 1,000.
So quit *****ing, you'll get your bet.
Because there is no way in hell I am passing up betting on "Tito" getting his ass knocked out.
Sir_Jose 10-01-2004, 03:27 AM I'll go easy on you and only make it 3000

ghostbear 10-01-2004, 02:46 PM vargas had a good chin??...man u guys say anything on this dam boxing site
Ok Vargas didn't have the best chin around but it wasn't weak! He had never been knocked down before he fought Tito. Everybody is saying Mayorga has a good chin because he has never been down or hurt. So when Tito knocks Mayorga out is he going to suddenly have a glass jaw? Vargas was only stopped twice in his career. People said RJ had a good chin and he was stopped twice in a row.
