TheWolf 11-04-2007, 08:02 PM Dont bother going pro if you just lost an AM fight. You should walk in with a few wins in a row, then you know youre ready to #1, step it up a notch #2 let your manager have some leverage when working out a deal. The most important part of boxing is to be managed intelligently. If you walk in with a ****ty record they wont build you up, you will be fed to the people they want to build up. All of a sudden you have a broken face, a loss on your record and the will to quit and take up golf. Be smart with important things. You look young and I'm sure boxing is important to you. There are alot of fighters who are amateur in name only but get sponsored and train full time like the pro's. The way to win amateur fights are definately different from pro fights. I think it's an excellent idea watching amateur fights on the net or going to events to analyse the fighters, at the end of the day that's the level of competition we're all fighting at for now. I've noticed that very few people on this forum actually take notice of what's going on in the amateur boxing scene. Even more ironic since the 2007 AIBA World Championships has just finished this weekend in Chicago! leff 11-05-2007, 10:58 AM I wouldn't say am boxing sucks. A knockdown is 1 point and a standing 8 is also on point. But the guy can easily throw a 1-2 to get that back. You will know you are ready to turn pro when you can knockdown or even knockout some opponents with the lefthook to the body. It's your retirement plan, so you better learn how to set up properly. :biggthump Versastyle 11-06-2007, 10:30 AM You will know you are ready to turn pro when you can knockdown or even knockout some opponents with the lefthook to the body. I tend to hurt ppl to the body with the right alot, but yeah I need to get that punch down. It seems easy to do with southpaws. The only thing you gotta do is slip there jab.I did it with a southpaw at my gym and I kept hitting him with it,and I kept telling him to try to protect it. These days titles don't mean a thing at the amateur level. It all depends on who the competition is. I've seen people win Golden Gloves who couldn't box worth a **** simply because they had easy opposition. Your attraction to the fans is punching power and the knockouts you will surely get. It is sad to say but knockouts are hard to get at the amateur level against top boxers. There just isn't enough time to break them down. Chances are you will win a professional title faster than you will win an Olympic medal. Once you learn how to turn that lefthook into a lethal weapon, you are ready to go. Yeah I dont have enough time. Those 2 min rounds go by fast as ****. In sparring at my new gym.All I go is 3 minute rounds. Seems like you're rushed during the 2 minute mark. All is well though. You're right about the punching power in the amateurs too. I can see me hurting someone and they hold.Like that one dude did.He held to a decision.:lol1: I have a plan on what to do in the amateurs,if I can..I saw a guy doing it during the AIBA World Championships. What he did is do a **** load of flurries the first round to rack up the points, then he coasted the other rounds. Versastyle 01-02-2008, 09:22 AM it looks like you have alot of power, and your not completely ripped (no disrespect, your in great shape, just not body builder ripped), so I think it would be advantageous for you to go down to 130, (You could walk around at 145, and youd have tremendous power, youd be able to kill people, and you wouldn't always be outmatched for height. 130? hahaha. Im alot bigger looking in person then on the Internet. Last time I was 130 I was in the 9th grade.
