Simple question: Who is more beloved in the United Kingdom, Joe Calzaghe or Ricky Hatton? I ask, b/c both fighters seem to have a huge following and seem to be very mainstream( judging from the HBO broadcasts) in British/Welsh society...

Calzaghe does not get the recognition he deserves. We actually have in JC a true contender for an ATG.

Because he is reserved and a family man he is hardly known outside of the boxing fraternity.

Its a ****in shame as we should embrace him instead of the usual line of losers like Bruno, Cooper, Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards etc

Hatton is definently more well known and loved. Hes increasingly making more TV appearances whereas Calzaghe as it was said is more reserved but is well known to most guys my age.

MickyHatton summed it up we embrace boxers like Bruno and Cooper instead of a guy who is at the moment one of if not the best fighters of our time.

Hattons personality makes him a bigger star.

Calzaghe is a nice guy, a good orator (which also goes a long way, and many boxers aren't) and is always pleasant. But he isn't as laidback and doesn't have as much charisma infront of the camera as Hatton does.

I live in Wales so obviously here Joe Calzaghe is alot more popular.

It's a different story in England, Ricky probably has a larger following, but I think more English people know of Calzaghe than the Welsh know of Ricky.

I'd also say that a higher percentage of Welsh people know of/follow Joe Calzaghe than the percentage of English fans do with Ricky.

I can understand that.

Ricky is the bigger star in the UK. Ricky is like one of the guys down the pub, football/lager/pies...... Joe is quite shy and is all about boxing, ya dont see him on tv shows.
