Have any of you ever volunteered for anything? Feeding the homeless, helping a charity, anything where you did some positive work for free?

I never have. I'm feeling kind of guilty about it. One good thing about volunteering is I could help people whose lives suck more than mine, therefore making me feel better about myself. I wonder if that's why people do volunteer, because they really want to help, or it just makes them feel better about themselves. I'd bet the latter in most cases.

I spend my lunch breaks/after work at the Primary/Elem school tutoring kids, I coach t-ball and soccer, I organize fund raisers and petition the school board for changes while working with the parents. I collect and deliver toys and clothes to a local orphanage. I am involved with several local organizations that help families who are struggling with abuse of any nature. And a few other things I plan to start this summer.

The best thing you can ever do is to become a "Big Brother" or one of the similar organizations. Kids who do not have fathers need so much guidance. If I were to only do one "charity", that would be it.

That's very respectful......Very good work.....I wish we had more people like that here.....Most people just want to complain and not do anything to help

I don't have a family to take care of so it is a lot easier for me. I work with kids everyday and am going to be a teacher if I can just get back to school and finish my degree(working two jobs is a hinderance). I'd rather spend my time off with a bunch of 8 year olds than most of the adults I know here so I am really just being selfish in my own way :)

Good work guys, I need to find somewhere to get involved and start helping people out, I feel I've been very fortunate in my life and I owe something back.

Volunteering can be a pain in the ass sometimes......Like what I do.....It doesn't matter if it's 4am or if I have other plans....when the alarm goes off I have to be on it......it's kind of fun and exciting but it can be aggravating too.....Just pick something you like and go for it....one thing, sometimes these groups can be a little snobbish and closed towards new people...I was a firefighter for a while.....went through FF 2 training and bought my gear and those guys were jerks..I'm not trying to scare you off....Just giving you a heads up on what group or activity to choose

I helped coach an atom hockey team this year. We placed 2nd in the league and lost 4-3 in the 3rd game in the best of 3 league championship series.
