punchDrUnK MONK 11-01-2007, 09:58 PM i wanna fit in running everyday into my training schedule...
i either do boxing workouts , or weight workouts at my gym, never both in one day .. but i think running should be done everyday..
my question is..
should i run b4 my boxing , or after ??... the only time my legs are really tired after boxing is from skipping... but most the time after boxing i could prolly run... but i dunno.... im sure its important too cuz i dont like going into boxing tired....
what yall think
rchan5 11-01-2007, 10:53 PM i know boxers at my gym who are active fighters usually run significantly before they work out or significantly after. For example, one of our fighters trains everyday from 2-5. He runs at night around 9 or 10. Another trains in the same time frame and runs in the early morning.
TheWolf 11-02-2007, 04:06 AM Dont wear yourself out before you train.
I jog a bit before training sometimes but usually its a different warm up like skipping.
Run at the end of training might not be so bad, pushing your body harder.
In all honesty I dont run as much as I should. Probably not the guy who you would want to listen to.
Salty 11-02-2007, 05:40 AM Run afterwards makes it harder for yourself i would think. But you should always do interval training as the last part of your workout and never before anything.
lyrical 11-02-2007, 05:45 AM You cant go running in the morning??
DoctorKillJoy 11-02-2007, 09:06 AM Run whenever you most feel like doing it. I usually like to do it an hour or two after training but sometimes a coach would have us run a few miles or do sprints before workouts. The important thing is that you do it, especially at such an early stage in your training... just do what works best for you so that you can keep doing it long term. If you need to mix it up and do it at different times to keep from getting bored then do that.. if you need to just stick to a strict routine thats good too. Find a way that will work with your schedule and everything too, otherwise you'll probably just end up not doing it or only doing it every now and then.
punchDrUnK MONK 11-02-2007, 11:58 AM **** yea, yall are right. its prolly best if i put it at the opposite end of my day from training... like if i hit the gym 2-3, ill run at night... or if i hit the gym 6-7... ill run at 1-2..
my gyms just far to get to, to get there trwice a day is a *****..currently at least.. once i get my whip itll be no prob

DoctorKillJoy 11-02-2007, 01:24 PM you don't need to go back to your gym to run. Just run around your neighborhood... or did i misunderstand you?
SpeedKillz 11-02-2007, 03:16 PM personally, i like to wake up at 5 or 530 and do my roadwork, then go about my day, then go to the gym at 6pm

nedcmk1 11-05-2007, 08:22 AM I do the same as speedkillz.
I like to run early in the AM. Be nice and awake and go about my day. Then train from 5-7 in the pm.
I would definately mix up running with intervals. Plus if you can, get a heart rate monitor. They are absolutely awesome. When you satrt using the monitor to reach and maintain specific target heart rates, and start setting your goals on heart rate based intervals you can reaaly jack up the intensity of your roadwork.

At our gym, we would run before workout, after warming up. But my advice to you is, do your roadwork seperate from your workout, as in the morning. I know you're a pretty dedicated dude, so I dont think you'll have too much of a problem getting up an hour or two earlier in the morning and hitting the road. Aside from waking you up and energizing you, you'll get it out of the way and focus on your ring routine later on in the day when you hit the gym. And if you still want to hit cardio after your workout you can do a light jog on the treadmill; though you're already getting a decent cardio workout with the ropes. Anyway, that's my humble opinion/suggestion for you.
Famoso Matador 11-08-2007, 11:13 PM If some of you are waking up at 5:30am to run, how early do you go to bed?
Dynamite Kid 11-09-2007, 05:24 AM i have been inactive for a while and during that time i have been weight training but recently i started Boxing again but originally when i Boxed i was about 130 pounds now i weigh 162 pounds i was weighing in at over 168 untill i started my road work again but now i feel i have shifted excess fat but how do i shift the excess muscle i have stopped pumping iron so how do i get it off
ricky_feroz 11-09-2007, 05:26 AM i do think u should run everyday i wake up and run in the track field at 430 in da mornig i run 5 miles that way i can go home sleep and go to skoo
punchDrUnK MONK 11-09-2007, 11:30 PM a quick update to this thread... i been runnin tons more then i use to.. in the past 4 days i ran 3 days. 2 miles twice, and then today 3 miles...
i already feel a difference in my body.. i have done it after my boxing so far... i do about an hour of boxing , different rounds.. bag work, shadowboxing, ab work outs... then i dont skip cuz i know im running after...
it works pretty well.. once i get my car ill be able to hit the gym anytime, so ill be goin in the mornings to run everyday, and then box in the afternoon, and maybe weight training some nights..
