View Full Version : Boxing club at Temple University in Philadelphia
mrrupo 10-30-2007, 09:23 PM Is anyone on here a student at Temple U? i was thinking about starting a boxing club, but before i put time in i want to see if there would be any interest. They dont currently have any equipment, and this looks like the best way to get some, cuz the university gives you money when you start a club. this way you would be able to train at the schools gym and not have to pay any sort of fee. please let me know if anyone here is interested. i would think with phillys boxing history there would be interest. i was actually surprised to find that there wasnt a boxing club already.
egonct 10-31-2007, 12:30 AM I am currently the president of the boxing club at University of CT. I didn't found it or anything, but have taken over as older kids graduate. There seems to be a lot of interest at first, but keeping members and keeping them training hard is a tough task. Especially since we dont have an actual trainer or anything. Give it a shot though, schools love to throw money at clubs, let me know how it works out.

Even if you get a club started there will be a fee. More importantly you need trainers. Talk to someone from one of the existing North Philly gyms to see if there are available but capable trainers in the neighborhood.
zubi29 11-01-2007, 11:17 AM i live in philly and was thinking about trasnfering to temple but yea i think you would get a good turnout if u started a club
SpeedKillz 11-01-2007, 12:29 PM well joe fraziers gym is right down the way down broad street about a mile so i dont know if u'll get too many serious fighters comin on temple campus to train at the university's gym, but who knows. there will be the occasional college kid that thinks he's tough and can hang with boxing, but they usually stop comin when they realize gettin ****ed up every night and training hard dont go together. but if u do it lemme know man i'll come down there and work with them cats.

Have you gone up to Frazier's gym?
Try that. If you don't mind living there in the hood, you shouldn't mind working out at the gym there either.

I'd invite you for a match, but it would be kind of gay if you got in the john there with me
FiteStudent 08-06-2011, 12:41 PM I know that this is an old thread but I am definitely interested in setting up a boxing club at Temple as it would be an easy way for me to get an additional two workouts/sparring sessions in a week.
If interested, reply back to this thread.
