You're talking to my man all wrong... It's the wrong tone. You do it again and I'll stab you in the face with a soldering iron.

I most certainly am. Especially the 152 division, since one of my guys was supposed to be there. We had to bail out, because the national federation here in Denmark wouldn't give him the right preparations, and even worse, they wouldn't even let us pay for it and do it ourselves! :killyou:

It may sound strange that we're given a ticket to the World Championships, and decide not to go, but he'd be an underdog over there in the first place, and with laughable preparations, going up against the best in the world who've all had top notch preparations, there'd be no point. The good thing is our refusing to go played a big part in getting the corrupt president and his cronies out, and some new people in, which should mean a better future for Danish amateur boxing. We're now looking ahead to the Euro champioships next year, and the EU championships in 2009. Still bitter though.... :nonono:

We might go to those, but I'm not optimistic. By my count, 9 of the final 16 are from Europe. Theoretically, all 8 european Olympic spots could be gone before those tournaments... More likely, there'll be 2 spots for each tournament, meaning a you have to get to the final.

Since those two tournaments are in Greece and Hungary, and the Hungarian and the Greek boxer are out of the Worlds, they'll be competing on home soil, which will make them very hard to beat.

Then there's the Brit, the Irishman, the Ukranian, the Frenchman, the Pole and whoever doesn't move on from the 1/8 finals. I have to admit that it looks like a little too much for him right now... :puppy_dog

He'll need a little more experience. He'll be 24 for the 2012 Olympics, which isn't bad if you're not an American, Russian or Cuban.

That would be the qualifiers for the Americas. Since we're from Denmark, we'll have to qualify through Europe. :)

No, because there are only 8 slots in each weight division for all of Europe. A1/4 final at the Worlds gets you qualified. There are 9 Europeans in the 1/8 finals at 152. However many of those win tonight, they'll have one of those 8 slots, so theoretically all 8 slots could be gone. I'd say at least 4 Euro's go through to the 1/4 finals, realistically, based on the matchups tonight. That leaves 4 slots to fight for in the two qualifier tournaments, in Hungary and Greece, where you'll have to go to the final to get a slot. The Greek and the Hungarian are already out fo the Worlds, so they'll be competing and have a BIG advantage at home. That leaves 2 slots for everyone else in Europe. When you think about how many strong countries there are in Europe, it's next to impossible.

Well, it varies greatly. 1-2 years ago it was all about letting your hands go. Bouts would end with 40 to 50 points for each boxer. Since then it's gone down considerably. Keeping you hands up, using your guard to block punches works now, which it didn't before. It has become quite difficult to figure out what scores and what doesn't, though. Some fights can end in the neighbourhood of 10 points for each, which is definitely too little (2.5 points per round??), while others end up with 25-35 points for the winner. Some people can get points with their jab, while others can't. I can't figure out what they want to see, and I don't think anybody else really knows right now...

Anyway, there's an AIBA convention held in Chicago, where they're talking about changing the format back to 3 rounds of 3 minutes, and also changing the scoring system. How that is going to to go exactly, I don't know, but changes seem to be coming.

But actually three rounds of three is a total time of nine minutes, where four rounds of two is only eight minutes, Fewer rounds, but you have to pace yourself a little more during the rounds, when they're 50% longer.
