As with everything in hip hop, the recent news post about the vandalism at the Tupac Amaru Center for the Arts is being questioned. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has run an article saying DeKalb Police Officials are saying that there was really no noose around the neck of the late hip hop icon’s (2Pac) statue at the Center.
According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution DeKalb police who are investigating the recent incidents of vandalism at the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center in Stone Mountain, Ga. - and officials with the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts have different takes on what happened.
Police spokesman of DeKalb County Police Marcus Hodge The Atlanta Journal-Constitution no noose was around Shakur's (2Pac) neck, but rather an orange nylon string with a wooden cross attached. He added that the incidents are not being investigated as hate crimes.
If you look at the pictures below you will see the orange cord around the neck of the hip hop icon Tupac is in a noose. It has a slip knot in it, which would cut off your breathing if you were hung by it. This seems to be according to what your definition of noose is if this cord would indeed choke a person to death or not. The definition of a noose at http://www.thefreedictionary.com/noose says 1. A loop formed in a rope by means of a slipknot so that it binds tighter as the rope is pulled. So it appears that the ‘orange nylon string’ is a noose.
It seems police officials are trying to down play the incidents as a means of not really taking these actions against the Tupac Amaru Center for the Arts seriously.
Hodge also went on to tell The Atlanta Journal-Constitution he didn't know where the confusion stemmed from but was not bothered by the Center's news release. He said it would not affect the investigation. "They're just exercising their First Amendment rights to say what they want to say," he said.
Versa Manos, publicist for the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center (Gorgeous PR Inc.) told ThugLifeArmy.com site admin. Robert, that she and Gorgeous PR Inc. are "standing by our press release. That was the information that was given to me from the folks at the center." Versa Manos also told ThugLifeArmy.com that the marble base of the statue will have to be replaced.
Versa Manos also told ThugLifeArmy.com that the man arrested did not have anything to do with the incident with the statue. He had told police he was there because he wanted to talk to Tupac.
Hodge told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution the first incident was reported early Saturday. Underwear had been put on the head of the statue, and the orange string was around its neck. He also said stickers had been placed on the statue and on nearby walls, but could not describe them. (See the pictures below).
Two days later, around 3 a.m., police responded to a suspicious-person call at the center, located at 5616 Memorial Drive.
A security guard told police that he heard loud banging noises near the statue, and detained a man he found on the property, Hodge said. The man was arrested on suspicion of public drunkenness and trespassing, Hodge said.
Police were called to the center more than an hour later when more damage was discovered to the center's outdoor pavilions, Hodge told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
You can see by the pictures below of the statue of the hip hop icon Tupac Shakur (2Pac) that this did happen and you can see the noose around the neck of Tupac. Police officials need to take these incidents seriously. These types of crimes are becoming everyday all across the nation and they should all be addressed as serious matters.
