Get this:
For (approx) the two years I've been with this company, there has been an ongoing rivalry between the Support section and the Systems Administrators. Infact, this I suspect, has gone on long before I arrived at the company.
Now to paint the picture, the System Admins basically, for all intends and purposes, run the company. Whatever they say, to management, thy will be done. Doesn't matter if it's hardware, software, personnel, etc. Doesn't even matter if they're wrong. If they want it, or they say it is so, then it is. No questions asked. No stage for resolution..
They have always treated my section like crap, my colleagues like peons and condescended to us. They talk to us like we're dirt. Yet these overweight keyboard warriors wouldn't have the balls to talk to anyone the way they do in person. So they cower behind their keyboards in their respective sections at work, sending their belligerant and condescending emails to us. For two years, I've put up with the **** from a fair majority of the administrators (only one of them is a great guy, the rest are varying degrees of *******s).
Basically, our job is to lodge jobs with them on behalf of the users. The Systems team, for the most part, have made it damnably difficult to contact them. They have insulated themselves in procedures that are years out of date, yet, because of the golden rule (see above) nobody will rock the boat to try and change them. This means the only way we can lodge jobs with them is through an outdated form. They make the supervisors double check to see if it's all correct because they're sick of the number of jobs put through to them they see as superfluous. This is called a systems request. They reply to these requests when they're good and ready or when enough senior people make complaints and phone calls (whichever comes first). They will usually reply in a condescending tone as well.
For two years, I've put up with their **** and taken it on the chin. The other day I had a gutful and now I've struck a blow against them that will hopefully send a strong enough message.
No I didn't punch them out (that'd be ideal though).
I filed a harassment complaint against one of them.
It began in one of these requests where a system admin, had, by her own admission, stated she ****ed up. Although she tried to cover it up and got all pissy at me. I flat out told this *****, in the job "Don't give me attitude for your problems. I'm sick of the attitude, you can stop it now or I'll take it further".
Meaning: This is unacceptable behaviour - cease and desist or I'll report it to management.
I was ready to leave it at that.
Next day my TL hauls me into a meeting. Apparently the Systems Manager said my email could be construed as a THREAT (it's not a threat if I follow through, isn't it??). I see she is here to give me a lecture over my email.
That's it. They figure they can push ME around, talk disrespectful and when I stand up for myself, they can do this?? **** THAT.
I pulled out a wad of emails from the Admin in question (in anticipation of this event) with appropriate sections highlighted. I said that her emails are inappropriate, I find them offensive, there is a clear tone of condescention and I find it a form of workplace harassment and I want it to STOP RIGHT ****ING NOW.
She looks at me like are you serious?
Damn right I'm serious.
She's like, well the head of our department isn't in until tomorrow (today) blah blah blah. I'm like FINE, but I want it reported. I'm sick of this ****. Today, he was in meetings with the head of Systems and I suspect that this stupid ***** has been ****ing shafted by management.
I got response from her in regards to another job I lodged today. Not even a WHIFF of sarcasm or condescention.
Take that Systems. **** I feel good.
