heat27 10-24-2007, 03:40 AM i like jayz but he is no where near the best lyricist of all time.

FUMIN 88 10-24-2007, 08:51 AM jayz is a ***** and a **** rapper
Tuggers1986 10-24-2007, 08:55 AM Nas is by far a better lyricist than Jay. Even Eminems word play beats or atleast matches Jay's.
From what we've heard up to now Lupe Fiasco is the best Lyricist out right now. If he keeps bringing the same smart, interlectual lyrics he'll be in the running in a few years after a few more albums.

Agreed!!!!!
AntonTheGreat 10-24-2007, 03:00 PM the best of all time is em.the second is big.the most influential is rakim.
Cuauhtémoc1502 10-24-2007, 03:05 PM I'm a HUGE fan of Public Enemy, seeing them 4 times in concert myself. I have to say though that, Chuck D isn't the greatest MC, he's a bit overrated IMO. If you look at him from a purely Lyrical content point of view, he's very simple even for his time. He had one of the greatest voices ever and the fact that he was so intelligent in his sontent made him and icon but his pure word play wasn't that great.
Jay-Z is a very good MC but unfortunatly, we failed to see his greatest work because he went the commercial route and got paid. It would have been interesting to see him do some more pure underground lyrical stuff just to see his true talent but we never got to see that. Even though he does have a good body of work and some of his lyrics are legendary in the game but it's far and few in between.
KRS-1 is a stright legend and can't be touched, enough said.
Nas is a little like Jay-Z in the sense he tryed to get paid more than anything else, especially later in his career. Illmatic though, stands alone in his body of work and is one of the greatest hip hop records ever put out there. That album alone solidify's his status as a great MC.

You must not have heard Hip Hop Is Dead. Or his last 3 albums he hasn't tried to make any radio hits at all. Nas is the best rapper alive in my opinion.
Smokin' 10-25-2007, 07:26 PM I still don't know what you guys are debating...Chuck D and KRS-One are hip hop legends...they are consisdered the cream of the crop...and here they are calling Jay as the best lyricist ever...

Yeah you can't really listen to KRS-one outside of his music.
Remember his stupid 9/11 statement

That was a dumb ass comment considering the fact that you made a thread about it.
What else are we suppose to do? Say "Oh ok."
Besides, those guys got no knowledge on today's hiphop whatsoever.
Until one of them can make a hit track that measures up to today's standards of hip hop, then I'll take what they say as ****.

Of course Iv'e listened to those albums and I wasn't knocking Nas. I was just pointing out the fact that IMO, both of those MC's best work is past them. I ust can't think of anything better than Illmatic as far as what Nas has done.
To me that album is a classic and top 3 in the history of hip hop and that's big.
VERSATILE2K12 10-26-2007, 04:36 PM Jay-z is something when it comes to lyrics. One of the only East coast guys I actually enjoy.

Shutup Jack, you wouldn't know **** about hip hop if it slapped you in the face.
And go listen to that song KRS One did with Marley Marl (Hip Hop Lives). That is one hot track.

I don't care about "knowing" hip hop or any other musical genre for that matter.
If something sounds good and says something, I'll listen. If not, **** it and **** you too.
Wtf? "Know" hiphop. **** hip hop. I don't want to be a historian of that ****.
And that Hip Hop Lives track sucks ****.
KRS doesn't come onto that beat with any kind of flow.
He sounds like he's trying to hard to stay on beat and doesn't deliver any of his rhymes fluidly (like how a rapper today would).
That **** is garbage.

.....lol. You hate when white guys talk about rap, dont cha? All the black dudes at my work hate it too....

*****.1st of all you stupid little ***** i'm not white punk. i blacker than a mother****er, and i know a true lyricist when i hear one, so calm the **** down. racially biased? you make me laugh, because you have no idea who i am, yet, you assume that i am white because i feel em is the greatest lyricist of our generation, and you come back with a little insult that holds no merit when you don't even tell me why em's not the greatest. how can you even commit to an argument by talking ****?
i know hip hop you little dickhead, how about you? i know a lyricist and a wordsmith boy, how about you? i know when a guy like em rips a beat and is so versatile that he can change his flow through mid rhyme. why? because he's that great and more. i am not being biased let alone racially biased, i am giving an opinion and unlike you decent arguments to back my opinion. i mean, the man wrote a song called lose yourself that won him an oscar and the song was so good that it also won him a grammy. it summed up a struggling lyricist trying to make it and it in turn inspired many up an coming rappers to strive hard enough to make it. hell, eminem is a creative genius and the most methodical mc to ever come along. he bleeds rap music so for you to try and explain to me otherwise with insults that mean not a damn thing is irrelevant at this point and time, so come back when you want to have a decent argument, because from what i read, you don't have what it takes. work on it a little more *****. alright?
pbftxrs316 10-27-2007, 01:53 AM .....lol. You hate when white guys talk about rap, dont cha? All the black dudes at my work hate it too....yeah? how about taking his and all your black dude's dick out of your mouth because i hate it when black people suck other black people's dicks which is what you're doing right now with your little comment.
Smokin' 10-27-2007, 01:56 AM too bad I'm as white as white gets.
RHETOЯIC 10-27-2007, 11:55 AM Eminem has faded.
When he gets back to saying that sick **** he was saying on the Marshall Mathers LP then I'll reconsider.
On "Touchdown" he sounded horrible. He actually sounded like a white guy trying to be black and throughout Eminem's career he's done everything but that.

he hasn't faded, he's evolved like many other artists do in hip hip. i mean, let's be honest, has nas ever been as ill as he was on illmatic? hell no, he evolved. has jay z ever been as lyrically brilliant as he was on reasonable doubt? no, and the same goes for krs one, rakim, and more. these guys evolved as artists and they are just adjusting with the times. em was nothing short of brilliant on the mmlp, but on the eminem show, he showed that he could talk about issues other than drugs and killing his wife and mother. he talked more about haley, he talked about white america, he talked about the war, why he feels the way he does about his mother and kim. hell, listen to the song soldier, and just hear how em sums up what it takes for him to be a soldier in hip hop, and he broke it down to a science and it was just brilliant. then, how about sing for the moment and till i collapse? those two songs along with white america were imo three of the most mezmerizing songs in hip hop history. if em flowed like he did in the mmlp and stayed one dimensional he imo wouldn't be considered a great. many rapper can be raw as hell with their flow, but how many rappers can switch their flow style up? not too many, but em can. he's wordsmith but also very articulate with his delievry. that is what i was trying to prove, not to really argue with you the way we did man. i mean, his song, love me, off of the 8 mile soundtrack showed how smooth he can flow and how he could excentuate his words to the beat and he shifted a lot throughout the song. he's brilliant- for example, a verse from the song love me-
there's a certain mystique, when i speak, that you notice
that's sort of unique, coz you know it's me,
my poetry's deep, and i stillmatic
the way i flow to this beat,...(he shifted after this line)
you can't sit still
it's like trying to smoke crack and go to sleep
i'm strapped, just knowing any minute i could snap
i'm the equivalent of what would would happen if bush rapped
i bully these rappers so bad ly-ri-cally(see how he excentuated this word to use up all of the beat, just sheer brillaince)
it ain't even, i ain't even hungry. it ain't even money
you can't pay enough for you to play me,
it's ****a-mainy, you-just-ain't-zainy enough-,
to rock with shady, my noodle is ****adoodle,
my flow's poo poo, i got screws loose,-
yeah, the whole kitten caboodle
i'm just brutal, it's no rumor,- i'm numero uno
assume it, it's no humor in it, no more, you know
i'm rollin with a swollen bowlin ball in my bag
you'll need a *** to come and tear a new hole in my ass
(you better love me, *****)
this verse was just amazingly articulated by em. he used everyday sayings and goofy words but still gave them importance. he's a true lyricist and the greatest of our generation, but that's just my opinion.
also, listen to renegades, mosh, we as americans, murder murder, and one day at a time, all brilliant songs but each one has a different style to it. em's versaitle all around the board. don't judge him from his recent shift in style and then base it off of your need to hear what he spit on his most creative(as far as lyrically) album to date, the mmlp. em has been featured on some of hip hop's greatest mc's songs and he has outshined them all, including tupac, bigge, jay z, dmx, 50 cent, and Dr. dre and snoop dogg, em has spit better than all of them on their songs. i'll list them for you if you like me to.
Eminem is one of the the most overrated rappers in history.
And the statement that Eminem is a better lyricist than Nas cannot be uttered without drugs in your system.
pbftxrs316 10-29-2007, 12:56 AM Eminem is one of the the most overrated rappers in history.
And the statement that Eminem is a better lyricist than Nas cannot be uttered without drugs in your system.jhere we go again. didn't you learn from our last bunch of arguments not to make comments like you do? i mean, butt out of the conversation man. em is a better lyricist than nas, and nas is one of the greatest in history but em is a better lyricist by far. you're living too much on illmatic which is by far in hip hop's top 5 albums in history, don't get me wrong, but to base it off of that album is stupid because it's been over 10 years since illmatic was dropped. em stayed consistent with his lyrical delivery longer than nas did. i would have loved to see the illmatic nas battle the mmlp eminem. it could have possibly been the greatest lyrical battle of our generation besides big l vs rakim but nonetheless, em has stayed consistent and nas lost his drive for some reason. maybe nothing too signifcant happened in his life besides the ill will situation and the jay z beef, but em has slayed all of his opponents like britney spears, n'sync, christina, vanilla ice, benzino, ja rule, irv gatti, cannibus, lauryn hill, wyclef, limp bizkit, whitey ford, dj lethal, dave mays, moby, and came at bush, clinton, chaney, and more.
now, the only reason i put pop artists like n'sync, britney, christina, and moby in that list is because eminem came at them at a time when they were huge in the industry and basically overshowring the musice indusrtry, and he came along and outshined them. i know he gets no real credibility in dissing these artists but he slayed them from the top of the music world, and in turn, revolutionized rap music and he is partially to blame for how they are now. i mean, where are the backstreet boys, where is britney, why did he change her gimmick, where is christina, why did she go dirty, where in n'sync, whitey ford, limp bizkit, and other different artists? and why did they change their gimmicks? so that's why i listed them. but, em slayed cannibus, and lyrical wizard who slayed ll cool j(no matter what anybody says, he killed ll). em killed cannibus. he killed ja rile. he outshined jay z on renegades. nas is known for one song in a beef, ether. compare ether to nail in the coffin lyrically.
nas had three verses against a guy who was well known and respected in hip hop as well as beloved. emniem had one long verse against a guy who owned half of a legendary magazine but seemed to find a lot to say about him. so, compare thise two tracks and compare the lyrical agenda and precision of both. nas ripped jay, but em lyrically overshadowed nas in comparison to their songs in one long verse.

Chuck D & KRS > Jay-Z, IMO. Same goes for LL, Rakim, Slick Rick, Nas, Scarface, Masta Ace, Gza, Cee-Lo, 2pac, B.I.G...........
On a side note, I am looking forward to hearing Jay-Z's new album.
