View Full Version : Lindland To Abu Dhabi
wondermut 04-09-2003, 11:55 AM From www.mmaweekly.com:
Matt Lindland has his sights set on becoming the new Middleweight Champion of the UFC, but before he does that, he will see what he can do at the next Abu Dhabi competition in San Paulo, Brazil on May 17th.
Lindland talked with MMAWeekly.com last night about the opportunity. "I'm really looking forward to it. I was invited to compete and it sounded like a lot of fun."
Matt will be competiting in the 88 Kilo weight class which translates to around 192 pounds. Asked about his chances of winning his division?
"I've trained a lot in submissions which has helped my game a lot. The one thing you can see is wrestlers have always done pretty well in the past, so I look forward to my grappling skills as my base, and work on the submission game that I have trained on."
Lindland's schedule will be incredible over the next month. A week before he hits the mats for Abu Dhabi, he will be competing in a wrestling tournament which is the US Open competition. That takes place on May 9th and 10th...then a week later it's Abu Dhabi on May 17th, then it's the UFC on June 6th. Is it too much, too soon? "Nah, this is perfect. It keeps me very busy and I will be in great shape the whole way through.
DOGGx0 04-09-2003, 02:46 PM he has trained in alot of submissions? thats what he says and he is going to abu dahbi? i dunno about all that. you can't just know submissions... you have to be a submission artist!
i wish him luck... i personally think he will need it. we'll see..
Mr. Beelzebub 04-09-2003, 03:35 PM His style is perfect for the UFC, just like Couture. But Abu Dhabi?? Just like short dogg said, we'll see.
Busta showed that he doesn't know much about escaping subs.
Stain 04-09-2003, 06:08 PM I don't think he'll have a problem scoring takedowns... he won't submit anyone but I can definately see him winning matches by points. I think its a great chance for Matt. He won't win the whole thing, but it will be a great experience that will help his game majorly.
DOGGx0 04-09-2003, 07:57 PM he wants help.. train. fight to win. you can use a fight as an experience to learn from your mistakes, but don't go in there with mistakes, thats all i am sayin. you NEED to be a sub/grapling artists and/or a bjj/wrestling specialist to compete in abu dahbi, not because you are a champ somewhere. nhb has nothing to do with subs, jj or wrestling as a sport seperatetly. its just like when you fight nhb... all your jj, wrestling and **** goes out the window. not competely, but when you have punches coming at you... it does. more or less defending punches and kicks instead of plotting your next move. get my point?
i think lindland needs more ground game first, BEFORE he goes competing in Abu Dahbi and shattering his ego of that as a champion when he loses. and he WILL lose. mark my words. i do wish him luck.. but i hate to say... he WILL lose.
Stain 04-09-2003, 08:01 PM you are crazy dude
wondermut 04-09-2003, 08:37 PM He has a good enough ground game to control his opponent and win on points. Good for him!
DOGGx0 04-09-2003, 09:18 PM no.
Tanner Rhoden 04-09-2003, 11:06 PM Mr. Fulton is correct
Stain 04-09-2003, 11:07 PM Mr. Rhoden is also correct.
DOGGx0 04-09-2003, 11:52 PM both of you are not correct. is betting illegal? if its not, then i got $50 to both of you ****s that says Lindland does not win. I am sure he will a few.... but not in the end.

Where are we saying that he'll win the whole thing?
By the way, you do know he won a silver medal in the Olympics, right?

i know that he will not win. whats the point of doing it if you are'nt gonna win?
good practice? is'nt that what the gym is for?
wondermut 04-10-2003, 12:10 AM where are you going to get all the best grapplers in the world in 1 gym?
Tanner Rhoden 04-10-2003, 12:17 AM Adam, you're argument is that he will not win. I agree and so does James. If we're all agreed on this, why make that gay ass post about wanting to bet us $50 that he won't win? That makes no sense.
DOGGx0 04-10-2003, 02:10 AM coz i can. damn you tanner! i hate you. no i don't.. ****... i do ... i don't know anymore. whatever.
great. we agree. sure. awesome! YAY!
end of discussion. unless someone is arguing my discussion otherwise. muahahahaha
Tanner Rhoden 04-10-2003, 02:16 AM Just admit you're a moron........I will stop when you do that.
Stain 04-10-2003, 04:31 AM Tanner Rhoden ****ing REEKS of correctness.
DOGGx0 04-10-2003, 10:54 AM now that makes more sense. i am a moron coz he will lose?! and we all agree to this, but i am the moron.
