View Full Version : Not paying off
boxing4ever 10-22-2007, 12:25 AM Ive had a job for almost 3 weeks now at burger king. I have noticed that Im less focused in school and training ever since I started this job. They are the only people that have called me back ever since Ive been hunting for a job. And I mean THEY ARE THE ONLY PEOPLE THAT HAVE CALLED BACK. Im not goona lie I am getting out of shape I used to weigh 154 and im 5"8 tall and now ever since I started this job Ive went up to 164. I also noticed I am not improving in my training anymore and **** im getting worse. This **** is crazy. When im working I eat before I come in. I usually eat something good and healthy at my house but when I get there It takes about a half hour of being around the food and smell of it to get me hungry again. It is very hard to resist. I am ****ing outraged and for sure I will be leaving this ****ing job In a 3-4 weeks. I hate feeling and looking out of shape and right now I am. I have also noticed my performance is not as good as It used to be before I started working. I need money but If I am going to have to suffer in life to get it then the **** with the money I want my life and body back. I am 17 years old and I understand I need a job. bobweaver 10-22-2007, 12:42 PM As a boxer i would not suggest working anywhere with unhealthy food, it is a big problem for a lot of boxers because those places are usually the only places that are really looking ofr new employee all the time. I would suggest trying to work retail somewhere, My friend had the same problem working at wendy's he drank milk shakes and ate all the fries he could all day, it just didnt mix in with his boxing career to well.

DoctorKillJoy 10-22-2007, 12:50 PM You could wait tables. If you have trouble getting a job at a nicer place try silver diner or ihop or something usually arent that picky if you look clean and can speak relatively clear english. You'd still be around food but at least you'll probably be busier and you'll be running around which is good too. There might be more healthier food too depending on where you go. Oh and pay will definitely be better.

If you find a part time job is taking over your life, in that its reaching into the other areas of your life, I would recommend you quit. I had to quit one there a few months ago, because I would find myself worrying about certain aspects of it while in college, or I'd have to put off doing things like course work because I would get home tired from work.
It's really not worth it. If it's a case that you really need money, then I'm sure you can find something with a better atmosphere and around better food as other posters said.
lyrical 10-22-2007, 01:27 PM you need more self dicipline. Dont eat burger king....ever
Young Legend 10-22-2007, 03:41 PM There a Goodwill around where you live?
They are usually hiring and I bet they pay more than that BK, trust me.
Quit man and get a new job, look for something you can be active at. I used to work at the boys and girls club and during the school year i got $10 an hour to play basketball and indoor soccer with kids. and $13.50 for the summer camp. Try and get a moving job like versy. Or like a retail job at a sports store.

How old are you man?
Dont listen to these guys. Youre doing what you need to do.
Sure find another job, but if you cant, stay there for a while until you find something else.
I always used to drink an energy drink when I was gonna train after work. It will give you a bit of a boost. Trying not to eat fast food is a good idea, try your best.
Remember, hard work can work every calorie off.
i work in central london and the food choices are ****, all there are is real expensive sub's and mackie d's. so im ****ed.
punchDrUnK MONK 10-23-2007, 12:42 AM yo i jus quit kfc lol
trust me, a bad job will ****in bury ur boxing career or skewl hopes
and to be honest life is deeper then a paycheck u gotta go for ur goals
bottom line is clearly we all need money, but dont keep a job cuz u dont think u can get another one, theres tons of places out there...
i personally quit two jobs after a year at one place and 3 days at kfc. now jobhunting, im just using it as motivation for boxing, life dont hand u nothing u gotta earn yours, and go get what u want. box hard train hard, then maybe u will become a suiccessfull pro who wont need no job. boxing will be ur fulltime job... or focus all ur time into skewl and in 3-4 years u will be gettin nice paychecks
jus keep ur head up and stay motivated and hungry

ferocity 10-23-2007, 01:20 AM Librado Andrade and his brother, i belive Librado himself worked as manager at Taco Bell. I have no idea how they did it. But, i myself couldnt do that, espeically at burger king. Them whoopers are ****en good. If you have to work then work. If you could just get a part time job. You'll get used to working and boxing. Then hopfully one day you could be able to just focus on boxing.
Southpaw16 10-23-2007, 03:54 AM You said that since you are 17 you need a job. Do you actually need a job? I assume your living at home, do your parents insist you have a job? Do you have any rent requirements? I think that at that age, when possible, school should be your job. Boxing is also very important because of the discipline and confidence it provides. Maybe your automatically coming to the conclusion that you have to be working and you should step back and re-evaluate that thought.
THe TRiNiTY 10-23-2007, 07:21 AM It's been said before, I'm sure but... NEW JOB. No TRUE WAY around it. You can always just try to fight the urge, but that's not mentally good for you. The best thing to do is get a new job, try for something part time too. You have to sacrifice to make it with boxing. When you're a boxer, it's a lifestyle, not a sport.
