View Full Version : Brandon Vera is a tweener!
MASGAGOMEXI 10-21-2007, 04:39 AM For those that don't know or never heard of the term tweener. Here it is..... A tweener is considered an American football term, here's an example. Lets say you have a college running back who is 5'11 205lbs. and his asset was running people over in college. when he gets to the NFL he isn't able to devise the same running attack, if the coaches were to move him to fullback he would be considered too small at 205lbs, and at running back, even though he has the size of a running back, but is too slow.
In a nutshell our 5'11 205lbs football player is too small to play fullback, yet too slow to play running back. This is a similar position Vera is in right now, he's too small compared to most UFC heavyweights, and he would have a hard time dropping down to 205lbs as he is skinny as it is at 225lbs. Vera has good skills, but not great skills to compensate for his lack of size, that's why he would have difficulty competing with the UFC's heavyweight elites.
Organik 10-21-2007, 07:05 AM I think he could make it down, 20 pounds isnt much weight to cut for a guy his size.
Its not as though he got blown away, the fight was very close except for the last round. In the 2nd he did some very good work. But you're right, hes a small heavy and perhaps too small. He could make 205, just doesnt have the will for whatever reason.
Don't forget though, he only had 8 prior fights and this was his first big test. I think people shouldn't right him off because of this.

2swell k-wells 10-21-2007, 09:08 AM Militichs game plan was to hold VERA against the fence for the win.
Did any of you fans hear Joe Rogan say that???
That is ****ing cheap! a cheap way to get a win and maybe a title shot.

I agree. Looked like Sylvia was scared and didn't wanna get hit. If he tried to submit him Vera it would've been cool but he was just pushing him againts the fence...
2swell k-wells 10-21-2007, 09:26 AM MAS sounds like he had this experience before, poooor guy. Timmy played it safe tonight dude. Rogan and Timmy's corner pointed this out themselves and he got boooo'd for it. That was a boring fight cause Timmy kept pressing him against the cage with NO stoppage. AND when Vera put Timmy against the game the NEW REF seperated them right away.....that was plain BS. They obviously want Silvia against Nog, cant ya see???? BS. Vera knew it in his interview too.

That could be a very interesting fight, actually. Nog is another one of the small HWs, but he is a very solid fighter, especially when it comes to the ground game. And there are few fighters who've shown an ability to take a beating like he has, though this aspect of his game may well lead to a shortened career. Nog is definatly the superior tactition of the two, but stylistically, Silvia would present a very stiff challenge. There is slim chance that Nog could stand and trade with Tim, and Tim's shown the ability to manhandle smaller opponents before. It'd be tough for Nog to take Silvia down, though he does have solid takedowns, so he may get it there. One thing Nog has shown is the ability to finish fights when presented with the opportunity to sub his opponent. The guy has incredible hips, and there are very few superior ground technicians on this plannet. Still, the trick is getting it there.
I think this is a fight that Silvia would win, based on the styles, though one thing I've learned is not to count Nog out. I'd like to see these guys fight 5 rounds though if they do fight.

I agree, he sucks. That said, he'd be a tough test for Nog. Nog is the superior fighter, but a guy of Tim's stature would not be an easy fight for a guy like Nog. I hope he'd win though, and he's got the heart of a ****ing sabor tooth, so I think he may pull it off.
Organik 10-21-2007, 10:40 AM Btw, who the **** you calling boy, son?
2swell k-wells 10-21-2007, 10:42 AM my bad.....are you a man???? sorry but yeah...sylvia sucks and he wont be a good test for NOG.
