View Full Version : Matt Hughes Vs Matt Serra D.I.E.S.E.L 10-20-2007, 06:02 PM I was listening to a podcast and heard they supposed to fight on Dec 29, can't wait to see this. number6 10-20-2007, 06:37 PM I think they do fight on that date. Im goin with Hughes, he will secure top position and more than likely dominate. I dont see this being a good spectacle though, maybe a stoppage win for Hughes in 4 or 5, or ud landslide. The only good thing about this fight is whats at stake and the build up/hype. Darkstar 10-20-2007, 07:43 PM You should watch TUF. But Matt Hughes wins easy. D.I.E.S.E.L 10-20-2007, 07:48 PM well the Hype in this fight lies in the fact that Matt Hughes lost to St Pierre and St Pierre lost to Matt Serra. So we'll see how this turns out Blair_Wells#32 10-20-2007, 07:57 PM Matt Serra will win. D.I.E.S.E.L 10-20-2007, 08:03 PM check it, look how he manhandles the 1st guy Palma 10-20-2007, 08:18 PM Vicious!! But he will loose against Serra. D.I.E.S.E.L 10-20-2007, 08:34 PM I haven't seen Serra fight and he does seem like a more level headed guy but still somebody is bound to get KO'd this fight. vinnie7731 10-20-2007, 08:57 PM serra is no joke. he will win, he is the better fighter. hughes' day is over and i think he knows it AndersonSilva 10-20-2007, 09:18 PM Serra is crazyyy he will murder Matt Hughes 2swell k-wells 10-20-2007, 09:53 PM Serra hands down. **** hughes...that dick. Nodogoshi 10-21-2007, 10:26 AM I think Serra wins as well. Hes just the more rounded fighter, though Hughes is a powerful ****er. 2swell k-wells 10-21-2007, 10:50 AM thats about it........power......1 lil powerful dick. lol D.I.E.S.E.L 10-21-2007, 11:02 AM thats about it........power......1 lil powerful dick. lol :haha: ...we will see how their fighting styles collide, but we all know Serra is going to get body slammed nicely.........and once again for those who haven't seen the clip yet, check pg 1. 2swell k-wells 10-21-2007, 11:14 AM If a Dick ever powerslamed me, I'd retire. that dick. D.I.E.S.E.L 10-21-2007, 12:08 PM have you forgotten what Hughes did to Gracie ( who is a Jiu jitsu legend)? Now if Gracie is the king of that style and still gets a beatdown...c'mon now 2swell k-wells 10-21-2007, 12:10 PM ask palma, he knows videos and can probably find a bunch on Serra. Matt's neck went red doing it though. that dick... D.I.E.S.E.L 10-21-2007, 12:15 PM lol so what if he was old, now your making up excuses. Despite his age Gracie was submitting almost every fight up to that point 2swell k-wells 10-21-2007, 12:18 PM LOL are u serious?? excuses. uhhhh everybody knew royce was gonna lose because of his age, its a no brainer. Why do u brag about that? lol D.I.E.S.E.L 10-21-2007, 12:22 PM bull**** i hate when ppl use that as a reason...and after all that trash talking he did 2swell k-wells 10-21-2007, 12:30 PM I can say the same thing about Hughes getting his ass handed to him by GSP. whats your excuse lil boi? lets here them, lets see the paragraphs of excuses. D.I.E.S.E.L 10-21-2007, 12:53 PM don't have none...a loss is a loss Palma 10-21-2007, 12:53 PM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0kORUjS1nI Watch this match of Serra and watch his dexterity level! He will eat up Hughes on the ground! D.I.E.S.E.L 10-21-2007, 03:18 PM decent ground game Palma 10-21-2007, 03:40 PM It will be a good match and I honestly do not care who wins. I personally would like to see both get their tails kicked by GSP! Nodogoshi 10-21-2007, 09:24 PM bull**** i hate when ppl use that as a reason...and after all that trash talking he did Dude, Royce was way past it when those 2 fought. Not only that, but he was also one of the biggest hype jobs in the history of combat sports. He largely beat a bunch of hand picked opponents who didn't know **** about the ground game. And don't come back saying "hes a ****ing legend, show some respect." I give credit where credit is do, and Royce was never as good as the top guys are today. Darkstar 10-21-2007, 10:25 PM Its a different world now. Of course he isnt as good (age). Its apples and oranges between the "old" days and modern MMA fighters. D.I.E.S.E.L 10-21-2007, 10:56 PM Dude, Royce was way past it when those 2 fought. Not only that, but he was also one of the biggest hype jobs in the history of combat sports. He largely beat a bunch of hand picked opponents who didn't know **** about the ground game. And don't come back saying "hes a ****ing legend, show some respect." I give credit where credit is do, and Royce was never as good as the top guys are today. lol whatever, im not defending Royce but regardless..we'll see if y'all switch it up when Serra takes a beatdown Darkstar 10-21-2007, 11:19 PM I will put all my points on a Hughes win. People hate him b/c of his personality but in the cage he is one the the best ever. Blair_Wells#32 10-22-2007, 01:49 AM i can't remember the last time hughes slammed anyone 2-3 years maybe. hughes could not finish lytle an just layed on top of him for 3 rounds, serra is more active on the ground and more dangerous, if hughes takes him down i think serra will submit him. serra's stand up is not great but good enough 2 ko GSP, somethin hughes couldn't do. 2 add as well serra really hates hughe's guts, if u hated someone u know u were goin 2 fight wouldn't u b training your ass off an coming up with a plan 2beat them. well i'm out. peace. TBEC2 10-22-2007, 01:55 AM Gracie Jujitsu over MFS any day im going with Serra robot_monkey 10-22-2007, 02:00 AM Serra will get exposed as the B-Level fighter he is. He will get picked up, slammed, and beaten into oblivion. George will refuse a title fight and avenge his loss. Koschek will accept and get beat as well. GSP will return to reclaim the title and Jon Fitch will challenge. That is how I wish it would work out; a dream come true. tykilroy 10-22-2007, 02:43 AM He's a dick like serra says. should I say more?? You are just a Serra fan boy and probably from the New York area. If anyone is a dick it's Serra. He has been running his big mouth non stop since he won the belt. I think Serra is secretly in love with Hughes! robot_monkey 10-22-2007, 02:59 AM You are just a Serra fan boy and probably from the New York area. If anyone is a dick it's Serra. He has been running his big mouth non stop since he won the belt. I think Serra is secretly in love with Hughes! Haha. So true, man. I posted a similar comment in a thread about the new season of TUF. Palma 10-22-2007, 04:49 PM I would have rather seen Rickson represent BJJ in the beginning instead of Royce. But Rorion wanted to let Royce represent their art in the first UFC cause he was the youngest and least experienced in the family and he wanted to prove that a smaller, weaker opponent could win against a much bigger opponent using their family style of BJJ. True, the guys of today are better trained and better prepared, but it was only due to the fact that the others failed in their attempt to beat Gracie that they began to change their training regiment. I think Serra is secretly in love with Hughes! lol Serra been taking cheap shots at Hughes during interviews but lets see if he can back it up, Gracie sure didn't. Nodogoshi 10-23-2007, 12:51 AM I would have rather seen Rickson represent BJJ in the beginning instead of Royce. True, the guys of today are better trained and better prepared, but it was only due to the fact that the others failed in their attempt to beat Gracie that they began to change their training regiment. Royce did have some good fights, but he was also a huge ****ing hype job. The UFC was in fact essentially founded as a platform to showcase BJJ by the ****ing Gracies. It essentially started as a marketing ploy, and a very succesful one at that. Its not as though there were not fighters out there who knew about ground fighting. However, Ken Shamrock was virtually the only one who got brought in. The first time the two fought Ken was overconfident, and paid for it. The second time was a different story. Submission grappling was not nearly as popular, but it was no great secret either. Its not like the Gracies invented the style, it was an import from Japan which they modified a bit. If they'd've brought in, for instance, a decent Judo-ka, he would not have been caught up nearly as easily in their ****. Also, there were fighters in Pancrase and other orgs who knew the ground game as well, the Shamrocks being two of them. I'm just glad the Sakuraba came along to dispell the myth of BJJ. phallus 10-23-2007, 02:22 AM i think serra will pull out a win by lay and pray, in a very close fight. i think matt hughes is a little past his prime, i think he has a hard time motivating himself to train for fights, because of this i think serra will squeak out a razor thin decision. i don't like matt hughes, but in his prime he would have beat serra, now i think serra is much hungrier. JRude79 10-23-2007, 03:11 AM I agree totally Palma 10-23-2007, 05:33 PM Royce did have some good fights, but he was also a huge ****ing hype job. I recomend you read the book by Clyde Gentry titled, "No Holds Barred". It has some very interesting facts in there about the early UFC bouts and the behind the scene happenings detailing what exactly happended as well as the evolution of MMA as a sport. Very good read and very informative! Information below for more info! The Two Sheds Review: No Holds Barred - Book Review Posted by on 10/14/2007 THE TWO SHEDS REVIEW by Julian Radbourne E-mail: twosheds316@aol.com Website: www.twoshedsreview.com Blog: www.myspace.com/twosheds316 Online Store: www.lulu.com/twosheds316 Having read a number of books on professional wrestling over the past few years, I thought it was time to break my duck as far as mixed martial arts books are concerned, and I do so with Clyde Gentry’s book, No Holds Barred: Ultimate Fighting and the Mixed Martial Arts Revolution. First published in 2002, Gentry takes an overall look at the way the mixed martial arts phenomenon has developed, but doesn’t start with the first Ultimate Fighting Championship show held in November 1993. He goes back even further, thousands of years in fact, to the sport of pan ration, held in the ancient Olympics. Skipping forward a few centuries, he also takes a look at how the late, great Bruce Lee envisioned a form of fighting skill, jeet kune do, and, of course, in infamous fight in Tokyo between World Heavyweight Boxing Champion Muhammad Ali and Japanese wrestling legend Antonio Inoki. Gentry then takes an in-depth look at the formation and early years of the UFC, how the promotions was originally conceived, and how it was perceived in the mainstream media, gaining almost immediate condemnation from both politicians and the press. Gentry’s look at the world of mixed martial arts, at it’s fighters and it’s political machinations is a tremendous read. The interviews conducted with the likes of Tank Abbott, Ken Shamrock, Dan Severn, and various members of the Gracie family certainly add to the overall flavour of the book, and it’s obvious that without their input, this book just wouldn’t have been the same. But the good thing about this book is that Gentry doesn’t confine himself to the American MMA scene. There is an extensive chapter on the worldwide MMA scene, so fans of the various Japanese promotions, including Pride and K-1, will be pleased. In conclusion - if you’re a keen follower of the mixed martial arts world, and you’re interested in finding out about it’s history, then this is the book for you. It’s extremely well written and researched, and is a great read. It’s one of those books that you just can’t put down once you’ve started reading it, and trust me, you won’t be disappointed. No Holds Barred: Ultimate Fighting and the Martial Arts Revolution by Clyde Gentry is published by Milo Books, and can be purchased from any good book store, or from the usual on-line outlets. I have that book.. have read through much of it. Palma 10-23-2007, 11:38 PM ****ing great book don't you think? Especially about how the early participants in the first UFC were all drinking and smoking in the back room while they were waiting to be called up to fight their bout. Could you imagine Huges or GSP smoking and drinking in their dressing room before being called up to fight their bout! Man, the evolution of MMA from side show spectacle to main-stream sport has really developed!
