View Full Version : Which type of situp or anything else to lose fat from midsection?
Exciterx24 10-19-2007, 12:39 PM Hello, I don't want to be a boxer or a pro fighter of any kind although I'm a real fan. Anyway, I just noticed that I have been gaining a little from the midsection and I'm looking soft there. A year ago, or less, I was totally slim and was around 130 pounds(I'm 5' 7"). I just don't want to become one of those thin guys but with belly. I think that is awful. Any tips? I also would like to know of ways to raise metabolism and everything. Thanks.
DA1CATAS 10-19-2007, 01:04 PM run.... ad some crunches if ya want definition
You cant spot reduce fat. Exercise will increase your metabolism
Exciterx24 10-19-2007, 01:52 PM I'm confused, which one is the crunch? Is it the one you do standing up and bending knees or is it similar to a situp? Also how helpful if, anything, is green tea? I read that it helps for fat burning.
ForemanCrossArm 10-19-2007, 02:04 PM a pike is probably the hardest feeling ab workout i do. bicycles are pretty rewarding too once you can do them for several sets of at least 30 seconds (or 40 foot touches, that's about a minute).
a LOT of the better champs you'll find did 200-500 of a particular ab exercise everday, no matter what. fenech is an example, did 500 crunches throughout the day.

ok, i may be wrong because i've always just done the typical sit-up type routine, but i think crunches are where you keep your arms paralell to the ground and go up about half-way really working on crunching your abs down, hence the name. a sit-up is with arms over your chest and you go past half-way almost to a full sitting up position (hence the name). i think they're basically the same but as we've learned about working out and shit we've figured out that it's not always best to go all the way up.
you can add resit to these exercises by doing them from a declined position, placing your feet at an inclined state (in a chair), adding weight to your chest, or, old school style, you can hang from a rod and work completely against gravity. although, if you're tall, i'm almost positive that that would eventually cause back problems..

most important is diet though, u aint gettin abs without ur diet, u can do 10000000000000 situps a day...
Exciterx24 10-19-2007, 02:11 PM Does basketball help you? I know it's not an ab exercise but does it help with metabolism? Basketball is the only sport I really enjoy practicing. I could jog too.
ForemanCrossArm 10-19-2007, 02:16 PM running and basketball CAN help. but you have to push your chest out/keep your arms high when your running, otherwise it can actually be reducing your muscle mass there.
hip pops are another good exercise.

First time I hear of pops. How does that one go?
ForemanCrossArm 10-19-2007, 03:34 PM on your back. legs in the air, pointed forward as much as possible. arms out in an anchor position (if you have to, put em under your butt). pop your legs into the air, lifting your hips off the ground. good lower ab exercise.

what do you mean you can lose mass?how?why?

it's about how you run. take a look at lance armstrong, the dude is built.. yet no real six pack. look at marathon runners, most are sticks that just have flat stomaches and no real definition in the ab area.
you gotta sorta push your stomache up a bit, roll your shoulders back a little and it'll really help you get washboard type abs. goes with the good posture thing a little.
fraidycat 10-19-2007, 10:20 PM Abs are made in the kitchen, not in the gym.
Cut out sugar -- that includes Gatorade, soda, juice, ALL sugar and especially anything that has "high fructose corn syrup" in it; HFCS will make your body PRODUCE fat (Gatorade has it, most candy has it, and most store-bought juice has it) -- and reduce your intake of processed food as much as possible. That's any food that comes in a box or a can. Eat only raw fruits and vegetables and only lean meat -- chicken, turkey, fish, extra-lean beef -- drink tons of water, and run every day.
I run from 4-5 AM. Today I ate/will eat:
6 AM: 2 slices of homemade bread and black coffee
9 AM: 2 apples
12 Noon: wheatberry salad (wheat, olive oil, cucumber, olives, feta cheese) and 5-6 slices of turkey
2 PM: a few handfuls of trail mix
4 PM: 2 bananas, 1 can albacore tuna, a few crackers
5:30 PM: dinner -- grilled salmon; cucumber, tomato and mozzarella salad; brown rice; 1 glass of white wine
I am in the gym from 6:30-8 PM
Around 8:30 PM I'll have 40g of whey protein in organic apple cider, vitamins, & a couple of bananas.
Before bed at 10 PM: 1 TBSP psyllium fiber in 8 oz. apple cider with 20 oz. water as a chaser.
I drink about half a gallon of water every day.
I lost nearly 40 lbs. in 6 months eating pretty much exactly like this and I've posted the pictures to prove it.
