This ****s me no end. I agree, non smokers should be able to have the air the way they want it...BUT to have NO smoking areas inside at all is a joke. If i want to go to my local club, have a drink and a punt, i have to go outside to have a smoke... does this piss anyone else off?

Yeah, It's pretty sad. I love it how you can still smoke in places like Burger King in Europe, that makes me laugh. I couldn't get over it.

As recent as 4 or 5 months ago smoking was banned within all public places (pubs, clubs, nightclubs etc...) You can't even smoke at a bus stop in England. (Scotland even earlier!)

Must say, i was apprehensive at first (my main fear was that i wouldn't see any of me smoker mates when i was down the boozer). But it is actually a lot better. I don't come home stinking of ***s anyway and me mates still come to the pub as much as ever.

Whats teh law over in Oz?

As for drinking after hours - we got 24 hour licensing applied last year in the country too. Its bloody brilliant - there is always a bar or pub open somewhere now.

Nah i love it. Im a non smoker, i like keeping my lungs clean. I am sick and tired of people blowing smoke in my lungs. I have nothing against smokers, but the new laws are right.

Its pretty slack on non-smokers if they don't have these laws. Because if smokers smoke inside and outside, then non-smokers have no choice and can't get away from the smoke. Now it is simply giving choice back to non smokers aswell. So non-smokers can choose to be inside and clean and smokers outside. It is the right thing to do in the end.

i agree non smokers should have the right to not breath in 2nd hand smoke. But the local clubs near me had seperate rooms (closed off) to the rest with pokies/tab/bar etc. I think if the rooms are not connected in any way, then we should be allowed to smoke (within set designated area). Please tell me, are we going to stop cars from being on the road because they let off fumes? Are we going to ban people from the sun unless they have sunscreen on? I think its rediculas.

Well if those clubs had already closed off rooms just for non-smokers than you have a point mate. I have to say a majority of clubs don't have this so they need to implement this stuff. Everything involves a degree of danger. Everyone has a right to smoke. Its a complicated issue i give you that.

The smoking laws in ENgland are NOT to protect the public.

Its to protect the bar staff, the managers, the girls who serve bar food. I used to work in a very smoky restaurant as a student and eventually quit because of the horrible headaches i kept getting every weekend due to the cigar/ciggarette smokers.

The public who work in these areas need to be safe from second hand smoke, which does kill. (The main guy for the charity in England is a guy called Roy Castle, who was a jazz trumpeter who died of smoking related- lung cancer, yet had never touched a cig in his life. It was from the Smoky jazz clubs where he worked).

but even that is a cop out... you know what to expect when you work in a place like that. What if some boxers kicked up a stink and ALL fights needed head gear?

Boxers too. They have a right not to be subjected to second hand smoke from the fans in the audience.

Its not a cop out! You shouldn't have to risk cancer so you can work a certain job.

Just go outside and smoke your ciggie.

it helps if you actually read my whole posts rather then the parts u want to. Ill do it really slow and spell it out for you so you can understand.

1. Im ALL for NON smokers to have the right to NOT inhale second hand smoke.
2. IF you work somewhere like a club or pub you know what to expect as in the conditions etc.
3. What was wrong with the way it was for over a year, designated smoking areas closed off from the rest of the club?
4. I havent seen any1 smoke ANYWHERE but outside or in pubs for years so what the **** you are on about with the boxing remark is beyond me.

and 5. Yes it is a cop out, there are occupational hazards in EVERY job and if one hazard annoys or bothers you more then others, then change jobs. I wouldnt become a miner if i didnt want to inhale dust.

I'll have to agree to disagree here, but i am in NO way saying i expect club/pub workers to inhale smoke, im saying there are other solutions that worked fine for years before the real sooks had to come along and spoil it. Oh and im not talking about English laws because in reality i dont give 2 ****s about what goes on over there.

God! you sound like a miserable cunt in places.

Calm the **** out, i just have a differing opinion to you.

Right. Number one, please don't patronise people, you sound like a prick when you do that.

The boxing comment i made was in reply to your post where you said...."What if some boxers kicked up a stink and ALL fights needed head gear?" <-- which was a **** anology but i still replied to it anyway.

As for the main topic of the post - fine if you want seperate rooms for smokers - but workers still have to serve you and risk getting cancer just so you can smoke. They shouldn't have to comprimise there health to earn money. Especially for a health risk that can be so easily resolved - i.e - by you getting of your arse and going outside for two minutes.

As for you not giving a **** what happens in England... i can understand that... but i was just giving you the opinion of someone who is actually living in a place with a entire smoking ban. I thought just for a second that my point of view would be quite worthy in your thread - considering i'm going through it.

lol ok it sounds like you are officially waving the green peace banner here. As i said im going to agree to disagree as this will go nowhere but back and forth because it seems with both have an ego.

I tell you what though, so much for democratic countries. I mean we didnt get an opinion on it at all and it really annoyed me.

anyway, nothing like a heated discussion to wake me up in the morning haha.

Hey pal, yea i'm trying to wave the peace banner! haha. I didn't want you all pissed off.

I was the same as you though, when the ban got introduced in England - and i'm not even a smoker. I was scared that my mates wouldn't come to the pub anymore, or that everyone would be walking outside for a f.ag every 2 minutes. I also thought that it would ruin the atmosphere - etc. But to be honest, it hasn't at all. The pub is still the same, the same people come in and its just as much fun. The only difference is, the place doesn't smell as much of stale smoke (which even a smoker will say, isn't the nicest aroma in the world.)

Besides it all, you shouldn't complain anyway! If a smoking ban did come into force in Australia, atleast when you walk outside the pub in the evening its relatively warm...or mild even. British smokers are out in the cold and rain every night.

- on a side note - forcing customers outside has led to loads of places making outside areas for folks, with heaters and stuff....so pubs have got more stuff going on now.

Your right about you not getting a choice. We never got one either. I don't think its too fair...but saying that, i wouldn't have voted for the smoking ban. But now we've got it... i think i would have. Hindsight is a bastard.

Seen as though they've banned smoking in pubs and clubs, for those who smoke why not go down the road of Amsterdam and introduce those amazing "Coffee Shops"!!!!!! Come on guys, how good would it be to order a few 'hoochie toochies', couple of 'Space Cakes' and consume 10 liters of Beer each and watch the Boxing all at the same time???
