I grapple with these guys half the week in a padded room thats pretty closed in. I noticed that I use the wall alot when it comes to takedowns and submission defense. after all, wouldnt you?

if your in someones guard, it just seems logical to use the wall for control. It negates certain sweeps, submissions, and escapes.

for those who hate fence tactics in UFC try to understand, its merely precautionary.

I think using the wall is stupid. Its bjj not mma and in bjj comps you dont get the luxury of walls.

agreed. they should get you away from the wall unless it is a nhb match. straight gi- no wall.... just the mat. that would be more of a test for tecnique than being able to use a wall as if you were fighting an all out fight. it makes more sense in an all out fight coz that would be a probablility in that sitch. i just confused myself with what i just typed, so i will stop right here.

I dont use a Gi so 1 of the places I train at trains ground and pound defense.
I want to learn to have " octogon control " since most grapplers in UFC get pulverized because they cant get of the fence.

Dont get me wrong, all techniques should be known. But I like to get used to all situations.
Last real fight I was in had me out numbered. I took this guy to the ground in a hallway.
talk about crowed space. ( Aaron Misery was practiclly fighting someone on top of me ) If I didnt use the wall, I wouldnt have defended the guy kicking me in the side while I used the wall to pin his friend.
