View Full Version : Losing heart and dedication
British Pitbull 10-15-2007, 08:24 PM I use to have a heart of steel and id never give up, lately its like I just drop my hands and cant be ****ed when im in the ring sparring or pads, It seems to be hapening alot lately and I seem not to even care about it and just let people hit me on purpose when im sparring even though i no i can out skill most of them. I got a fight coming up which is a bad thing because my heads all over the show at the moment due to some personal **** aswell.
Even yesterday I was ment to train but I just sat in my garage hit the bag a few times and just gave up, then just stuffed my face with junk after, my heart just dont seem there no more, its the worst iv felt my whole career, i pull through it normally by now if i have a bad few sessions, could this be the end? advice on getting through **** like this if you've had it.
Watch Pacquiao-Morales I, Gatti-Ward I, Gatti-Ruelas, Gatti-Rodriguez, DLH-Vargas and Trinidad-Vargas those fights will get you pumped and high on boxing and make you wanna train hard

I kinda went through that for awhile, when I was younger and in middle school I used to shadow box with weights EVERY NIGHT, and when I went to the gym i would tear into the bag like a monster. For awhile I was just goin through the motions and didnt have the same speed or intensity I used to, I couldnt explain. Now I have it back.
Also in sparring sometimes I get too tired to move or block or whatever and I just take the shots. Maybe back into the ropes and just let them mand on my arms, or something.
Salty 10-16-2007, 05:05 AM Dunno how to solve it, maybe just take a week off, relax and go from there. No point putting in a half assed effort, maybe a break is what you need physically and mentally.
i have the same problem mainly du eto years off injuries(for example i found out last february i had artritis,) and that i dont have time to train a lot in the marines......

eazy_mas 10-16-2007, 12:15 PM well you are the only one who could help yourself nobody in here could help you on this sitaution because it more something inside you.
One thing is imagine yourself fighting the best like Miguel Cotto or anyone imagine it in you brain and first go to be a local champion.
See who is the strongest in you area and try to reach him and beat him. and each time increase the parameter intell you wanna conquer the world :D
See Floyd Mayweather " Soul of Champion" even you are not competiting to be the best then you should be trying to competite anyway.

Golden-Gloves 10-17-2007, 09:01 AM ay man, check it out, every single person goes through what your going through, I dont care if your a world champion, or someone trains out of your garage, sometimes you just need to sit back, relax for a week or two or whenever you feel ready, rest up your body an mind, watch a few tapes of your favorite fighter, listen to some music, think about your goals in life.. And 9 times out of 10, you'll come back stronger then ever, happends to me every 3-4 months, it aint no big deal bro, dont let it give you doubts
tmoqsudz 10-17-2007, 11:45 AM the problem will solve on its on... it happens to a lot of people, u cant just have suddenly lost the passion for boxing so ur fine! you may not just be wanting it tht much but it wil come back, jus give it a few weeks of chilling.
ForemanCrossArm 10-17-2007, 02:26 PM this week has been awful for me, too. i basically stayed in weekend mode.. ick. i did get 2 classes in on monday, an 1 1/2 hour open workout yesterday (shtty two rounds of sparring included) and today ill hopefully get 2 hours of open, 2 hours of class, and an hour in a non-boxing gym running a mile or 2, shootin hoops, and gettin bak to lifting.
part of it has to do with over training last week especially.. just gotta keep the dream alive!!
i was questioning myself.. but i know that i've got the drive, i know it. i know i've got that fire. i know it.
you all do too.
Tysonisgod 10-17-2007, 03:37 PM You need to QUIT
why do people not like to train sometimes lol
mickeyb 10-17-2007, 07:59 PM Pitbull...i've been a bit lax on the training lately. (not good timing as the season has just opened up).
Get yourself to an amatuer show with your pals from the gym, or pals from the boozer and it'll get you ****ing raring to get in the gym.
Just been to Barnsley tonight and watched the fights. Its left me proper buzzed. Can't wait for training tomorrow... gotta get good! gotta goooo! Got my blood pumping right bad.

stick to fighting shadows in your council estate
Tysonisgod 10-18-2007, 05:35 PM stick to fighting shadows in your council estate
what does that mean? lol
Whats the point in training to fight if u dnt like to train? thats all i'm sayin
Never complain, never cry just work! if u wanna moan n ***** about it, dnt do it. jst the way i am
mickeyb 10-18-2007, 05:49 PM I don't agree Tyson. Everyone loses heart from time to time.
People have different ways of getting out a funk. This game takes so much dedication (much more than regular amatuer sports) ....so much hardwork and effort. It can wear you down after a bit.
Tysonisgod 10-18-2007, 05:57 PM Well when i feel wore down, i either train or go out with the boys, i dnt say ohh man i dnt wanna train i'm losing ma heart and dedication, its a lifestyle not a sport IMO, jst sayin wat i think man
DoctorKillJoy 10-18-2007, 06:06 PM today ill hopefully get 2 hours of open, 2 hours of class, and an hour in a non-boxing gym running a mile or 2, shootin hoops, and gettin bak to lifting.

Wow..... settle down man.
Anyway, I was in a rut a month or two ago... I took about two weeks off just doing occassional jogs... figured out some ways to change up my training a little and picked up right where i left off. Actually better than when i left off. You just have to learn to know yourself and when you need to step up and work through something vs when a break will be better for you.

We all get bogged down occasionally. If you have a clear goal and a realistic plan to achieve it, these periods of depression will be infrequent and short in duration.
ForemanCrossArm 10-19-2007, 03:52 AM ok. am i supposed to feel stupid that i spent 4 hours in a boxing gym today yet am still a LITTLE (not like a lot) pissed that i went out and had a lil fun (no drinking) instead of lifting a LIL too? ****. im dedicated. is that a crime?
i def think the dedication comes and goes tho, luckily it's there for me 80% of the time..

What did you do for 4 hours in the boxing gym? You must have good stamina to be up to lifting after a 4 hour workout.
DA1CATAS 10-19-2007, 11:44 AM I'm not dedicated . i'm just always angry. If you think about it you will find that anger is a very expensive motivation, I learned that it needs to be used wisely.
Really depends on if you want friends... relationships and so on.

10 rounds of jump rope, bout 20 of speed bag, 8 heavy bag, sparred a few rounds at the end. few on the double-end too, maybe 'bout 5. the rest spent resting in between and stretching. i mixed in 2 rounds of abs/push ups too..
i didn't even rest in between the speed bag. i suck at it, so i spent a lot of yesterday working on that.

now that is the f'n truth..

Thats impressive. I don't know why you'd want to do 20 rounds of speed bag though... that seems like time you could better spend on something, but if you're in the gym and working then props all the same.
ForemanCrossArm 10-19-2007, 03:38 PM like i said i'm bad at it, and i have a tough time letting my hands go when i spar.. so it is def something that i want to learn to be really, really good at.
