On Friday night at New York's Roseland Ballroom, Nas announced the title of his next album: He said it will be called n*gga and released in December. A source close to the project confirmed the name today.

Nas has said he'd planned to use that title for his last LP before he changed it to Hip-Hop Is Dead. If the December date holds firm, Nas will have a very busy winter. On November 6 he's releasing his Greatest Hits LP. A video for one of the two new songs on the project, "Surviving the Times" will be shot soon. Last week, super producer Jermaine Dupri -- who has already completed tracks for Jay-Z's American Gangster -- told MTV News he would love to be involved in Nas' upcoming new LP.

Nas headlined the last stop of the Sneaker Pimps Tour on Friday where newcomers such as Mista Mal as well as legends EPMD and Slick Rick had sets. Even Jeru Da Damaja showed up and rocked the mic.

Nas kept the crowd antsy by not going on until well after 1 a.m., but they left visibly -- and audibly -- pleased.

He opened with "Hip-Hop is Dead" then went into his catalog for records such as "One Love" and "Hate Me Now." God's Son ended with "Made You Look," during which he surprised the fans by jumping into the crowd. Once among the people, he began jumping up and down and inciting the people to jump with him. One of Nas' security guards dove into the audience after him, pulling him back to the stage, where he stood none the worse for wear.

"He touched my hand and gave me positive energy," one woman said as the house lights came on.

Besides phat rhymes, spectators saw some of the most exclusive kicks you can hope to get, as sneakers from all over the world were displayed. There was also a pit for professional skaters who sailed up and down ramps. Still, most of the skaters had to put their boards down when the acts came on, especially Nas.

How is he going to sell more records by being "catchy and controversial" when there's almost certainly no way that outlets like Target and Wal-Mart will not put an album named 'Ni**a' on the shelves? Will it gain attention? Of course, but there's no way it can boost his sales when the name of the album will singled handedly restrict his marketability in the stores I named.

Putting it like this (ni**a) on the shelves will do just that. Plus if he wasnt doing it to get controversy, why would he waste everyones time by trying to promote it? And market it to stores? That would be like digging his own grave. As Chamillionaire said "Controversy sells"

1. I thought Wal-Mart refuses to sell cd's with "Parental Advisory" warnings? Surely Nas naming his album the "N" word is just as bad, if not worse than the Parental Advisory warning.

2. Just because it can be considered controversial, there's no reason to "waste everyones time by promoting it". He would stupid to refrain from promoting his new album, wouldnt he? Who doesnt promote their new albums?

3. True, he could be "diggin his own grave", but at the same time, it suggests, that he likely doesnt care about selling the most amount of records possible.

I just hope there's some DJ Premier beats on the album.

I think he's foolish on what he's doing. He's like a big damn baby. He's too well known to be whining like this. He's knows the N-word has been controversial lately in hiphop. As some want it removed from future music.Yet he does this?:lol1:

Why should it have sold 5 million? How many albums sell 5 million copies? I dont know the answer, but as far as hip hop goes, I don't think it's that frequent.

Yeah 5 Million is definitely hard to reach nowadays.
You gotta have heat on every track, release a movie before the album, get shot 9 times, and get arrested with your middle fingers up screaming **** the world....you also got have a diss track on someone in the game with alot of clout.

I agree with you there. A lot of people on this forum champion Nas when his name is mentioned. You wouldn't happen to have an mp3 of Nas' song "Nas is coming"? It's from "It was written", and my cd wont let me rip it to my computer.
