View Full Version : Does running in the morning really matter? FIGHTING_FLIP 10-12-2007, 01:00 AM does it make a difference then running at night or in the middle of the day? whats the real difference if any?? VERSATILE2K12 10-12-2007, 01:04 AM Energy.Im starting to think about changing my running plan to the morning. Therefore I can rest my legs from all the work I was doing in the day time. fraidycat 10-12-2007, 01:06 AM There was just a thread (http://www.boxingscene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=140637)on this. Yes, it matters. Probably more psychologically than physically. Getting up in the morning to run takes discipline; it conditions your mind for the rigors of the sport. Especially out here where it's been 45F and raining sideways in the ****ing mornings. Hell, running in 95 degree heat isnt a easy task neither.haha You hear about all those marathoners that were passing out and having heat strokes? And that was 90 degree temp. Imagine that and 90% humidity in the mid day. No joke.I did that today, with sweater tops and bottoms.haha fraidycat 10-12-2007, 01:13 AM Hell, running in 95 degree heat isnt a easy task neither.haha I'll trade you. VERSATILE2K12 10-12-2007, 01:16 AM I'll trade you. Anytime. You can add clothes to get warm, you can only take off so much to get cool.Think about that one. fraidycat 10-12-2007, 01:26 AM Anytime. Getting out of a nice warm bed to go run in pitch-black, freezing, wind-driven rain sucks. greengloves 10-12-2007, 01:35 AM There was just a thread (http://www.boxingscene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=140637)on this. Running in the morning don't mean ****. In reality it is just a trick that trainers use to force a commitment from their boys. They can't party all night if they have to get up a 5:00 AM to run 5 miles. If they won't do it, they ain't worth wasting anymore time on. fraidycat 10-12-2007, 05:59 PM boo hoo it has already snowed here Running in the snow is no fun, either. But I would rather it be snowing than near-freezing and still raining, which is how it gets here starting next month until about March. (Right now it's in the 40's F and raining in the mornings; by mid-November it's typically in the mid-30's F and raining in buckets.) Purely personal preference in choosing snow over rain, of course. If running is the worst thing we have to tackle all day, I'd say we're pretty damn lucky. yidish pugilist 10-13-2007, 02:04 PM I live in NY and we get the freezing cold and the blazing heat. Personally I'd rather the heat. In the cold running gets pain in the knees and back, and the air rips through your lungs and throat. In the heat you might be soaked in sweat, no energy and vomiting but for some reason running in the heat>cold for me. BrooklynBomber 10-13-2007, 02:56 PM For me it's vice versa, I would rather run in cold. I also prefer to run at night since I work at nights and I am a dead meat in the morning. Zach53088 10-14-2007, 03:07 PM I run at night I don't like people staring at me in the day. Not alot of people run where I am. You don't see ppl running. When I run people in their cars turn their heads stare as a run past them in the street. I feel like telling them wtf are you looking at get up off your fat ass and run. So to avoid all that uncomfortableness I run at night after dinner. Even last night when I ran there was two girls talking in their garageway hanging out but they stoped in the middle of their converstaion to stare at me as i ran by stare so much that they even truned their heads and got up out of a chair and turned around to watch me run away. It pisses me off so much. tmoqsudz 10-14-2007, 08:02 PM Wel it doesnt reali matter.... but i mean it helps because if u do a run in the morning then it means straight away u burn away fat, because u got no sugar to burn off as ur sugar levels are low... also it means ur metabolism will be high even after breakfeast, lunch etc. steptwome 10-14-2007, 08:07 PM There's nothing like the morning run. It gets your heart rate going, increases your metabolism, and refreshes you for your daily tasks. I do 2 to 3 miles 5 days out of the week and i feel revived throughout the day. I just ignore it and when people start staring i just start throwing punches while im running to take my mind off of it. Ramamaiden 10-20-2007, 09:56 PM Well, there is a doubt i have always had. Does Rope Jumping replace in some way running??? I mean does rope jumping helps on stamina?? or its main focus is other thing?? STFUppercut 10-20-2007, 10:37 PM Anytime. You can add clothes to get warm, you can only take off so much to get cool.Think about that one. Haha my dad used to say that. I hear from some people they would rather run in the morning for the solitude. When I worked late day shifts at work I would get off work at 11 PM, stay up until 9 AM, and jog at 5AM. I loved not having to wake up to run in the morning. fraidycat 10-21-2007, 12:37 AM Well, there is a doubt i have always had. Does Rope Jumping replace in some way running??? I mean does rope jumping helps on stamina?? or its main focus is other thing?? Its main focus is coordination and balance. Its effect on endurance is secondary, IMO. Nothing replaces running. Running is necessary for boxers, both physically and psychologically. batista 10-21-2007, 07:22 AM No, it does not matter. What matters is that you get it done. Most run in the morning because it gives them adequate rest before boxing in the evening, and because they have to work during the day. ferocity 10-21-2007, 09:42 AM does it make a difference then running at night or in the middle of the day? whats the real difference if any?? Imo, yes. But then again every body reacts differnt. I remember reading Johnny Tapias book and he said he would run when ever he would get out of bed. And we know that Tapia could throw punchs for days, he had great stamina. 2swell k-wells 10-21-2007, 10:14 AM no..........no it doesnt.... ForemanCrossArm 10-21-2007, 01:19 PM a lot of people are saying that distance running isn't even that important to boxing anymore, perhaps even negative. i think people should aim to run 15-20 miles over the course of a week. that could be as simple as 3 miles x 4 days, 1 mile x 3 days in-between. or 2 miles x 7 days, .5 mile sprints x 4 days (every other). build from there. it is a toll on your joints tho. if you're a fighter who bends their knees a LOT then i really wouldn't be running a ton. you're ripping your ligaments to shreds bit by bit. fraidycat 10-21-2007, 01:31 PM it is a toll on your joints tho. if you're a fighter who bends their knees a LOT then i really wouldn't be running a ton. you're ripping your ligaments to shreds bit by bit. When I feel my knees or my feet start to twinge, I switch to the elliptical trainer for a week or two. ForemanCrossArm 10-21-2007, 02:04 PM i just can't use an ellipitical, ha. too many girls on em. i get shin splints the days after a good run. i'm thinking of switching to stationary bike and then switching to a hand bike at intervals during the cardio. work leg endurance, arm endurance, and overall cardio. fraidycat 10-21-2007, 04:08 PM i just can't use an ellipitical, ha. too many girls on em. If I was single, I'd be on the elliptical EVERY morning. The same girls see you the same time every day, eventually they say, "Wow, you're really disciplined." Then I'd say, "Well, yeah, I'm a boxer, I'm training for this fight next month. . . ." :luvbed: phallus 10-23-2007, 02:57 AM If I was single, I'd be on the elliptical EVERY morning. Juan diaz says he swims every morning and the kid has amazing stamina |
