I read that you dont start sparring as part of training before your coach thinks your (physically at least) ready. How long was it before you were 'allowed' to spar? Ill soon be going to the gym (need drivers license) and i was just wondering.

Was a month for me. Looks like it depends on you and your trainer.

I started sparring about a month after I joined my boxing gym. One of the trainers asked me if I was going to show up for sparring, so I did.

well i hope this gym is like that i want to get right in there maybe after 2 weeks, only thing im concerned about is my defense. what do you do to help improve that ne ways? is it only sparring and mitts?

The way i improved my defense is sparring with people way above my level, so after they had countered my shots they would tell me what i did wrong and keep telling me until i started to fix it
