Think about it. In correlation to our size we're ****ing sick. We're tiny compared to the U.S, Russia and China but yet we still always got people up there in the top ranks.

View Full Version : Are we the greatest sporting nation on the planet? Jim_Davis 10-05-2007, 06:33 PM Think about it. In correlation to our size we're ****ing sick. We're tiny compared to the U.S, Russia and China but yet we still always got people up there in the top ranks. :luvbed: BrooklynBomber 10-05-2007, 10:42 PM Germany, they are about your size and population but always get like a top 3 spot in Olympics. duffgun 10-06-2007, 09:05 AM Germany, they are about your size and population but always get like a top 3 spot in Olympics. Germany is bigger than Britain. MickyHatton 10-06-2007, 11:48 AM Germany is bigger than Britain. Agreed, much bigger. kayjay 10-06-2007, 11:55 AM Not by too much. Germany has like 80 million people, how many does Britain have? 60? duffgun 10-06-2007, 03:36 PM Not by too much. Germany has like 80 million people, how many does Britain have? 60? yeah that is about right, 20 million is a big gap imo, thats the hole population of Australia Muttley85 10-06-2007, 03:45 PM Argentina only has a population of 40m and have been world champions at Bastketball and Football the two biggest sports in the world. They will also reach the semis of the rugby wc tomorrow and are the best nation at polo by far and Carlos Monzon was pretty good. mgkirkpatrick 10-06-2007, 03:52 PM per capita? it's either australia or possibly new zealand. Jim_Davis 10-06-2007, 03:59 PM Good so its decided the UK is the greatest, thought so. Welter_Skelter 10-06-2007, 05:37 PM per capita? it's either australia or possibly new zealand. It's Actually Cuba... per capita has won the most Olympic medals.. Australlia is 2nd.. This is per capita FOLKS... duffgun 10-06-2007, 05:39 PM It's Actually Cuba... per capita has won the most Olympic medals.. Australlia is 2nd.. This is per capita FOLKS... its fiji.... mickeyb 10-06-2007, 05:45 PM It's Actually Cuba... per capita has won the most Olympic medals.. Australlia is 2nd.. This is per capita FOLKS... I can see the logic in that. But Welts the question is... "Whose the greatest sporting nation on the planet?" NOT "Whose the most SUCESSFUL nation on the planet". As Cubans don't participate as a rule in many sports - how can they be the most sporting?. I'd say that Ozzys certainly have a brilliant record in sports and are regarded highly as top sporting nation. Jim_Davis 10-06-2007, 06:01 PM Think outside of the olympics... Welter_Skelter 10-06-2007, 06:39 PM Think outside of the olympics... Then it's The USA by far........ BrooklynBomber 10-06-2007, 10:15 PM If it's outside of Olympics (Which is the only decent merit of distinguishing which nation is the most sporting) then it's the US. We got pro leagues of like every possible sport, from football and soccer to poker(which I don't consider a sport but many might disagree) and curling. Also, our High School and College sports are so developed and popular they can even rival pro leagues as is in case of basketball and football. mgkirkpatrick 10-07-2007, 08:18 AM cuba by medals in the olympics maybe.. but i dont think that should be the only measuring stick. mickeyb 10-07-2007, 08:21 AM Also, our High School and College sports are so developed and popular they can even rival pro leagues as is in case of basketball and football. I like this point. I wish school sports here were given the same high regard as they are in the states. However if you choose the U.S your forgetting that America also doesn't sucessfully play the more popular games on earth in favour of its own games/sports instead. Statitiscaly speaking.. Fiji's Population is so small (800000) in comparison that it skews the statitisical result.. mickeyb 10-07-2007, 10:04 AM who the **** regards poker as a sport The argument for when a competative activity is either a sport or a game is a difficult one to answer. I think Snooker and darts are a sport.... So why not cards..? mgkirkpatrick 10-07-2007, 10:54 AM was doing a course on this at uni.. what defines a sport. most people are saying video gaming is a sport now... fasman 10-07-2007, 11:39 AM nah, it aint the greatest sporting nation... adietheforestfa 10-07-2007, 09:45 PM was doing a course on this at uni.. what defines a sport. most people are saying video gaming is a sport now... If you keep score not an element of chance, and there is skill required it is a sport Southpaw Stinger 10-07-2007, 09:51 PM If you keep score not an element of chance, and there is skill required it is a sport I think that defines a game not a sport. I mean for a video games you don't need to have ever done a sit up in your life or have an physical fitness level whatsoever. Video Games are simply games/hobbies like Poker and Fishing. No way are they ****in sports! vBulletin® v3.7.1, Copyright ©2000-2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
