Another defeat for the yids, this time losing a 1-0 lead to lose 2-1 to Man City. There first goal was clearly offside and we had an equaliser disallowed for offside which wasn't. Never mind that's cricket as Bruno would say.

A win would have put us in with a good chance of catching and overtaking West Ham for 10th place, but now can't see us making it as our season is over and there is nothing to play for.

4-4! What a game

Didn't get to see the game tonight but by all accounts it was a thriller.
We showed some resillience going 1-0 down after 3 mins but then equalised shortly after. Chelsea then took a 3-1 lead only for us to draw level again.
10 mins from the end Chelsea took the lead for a 3rd time but again we showed some metal and equalised to make it 4-4.

My brother watched the game and said in the last seconds Berbatov was one on one with the keeper and should have scored but the keeper somehow got a hand to it and tipped it wide.

Well done lads but we have to get this defense a lot tighter if we are going to compete for a top 6 place or above next season.

Cashley should of been sent off!! Studs showing tackle in the air missed the ball totally! and took out hutton. He then keeps complaing and turns his back to the ref. But only gets the yellow! Entertaining game but terrible defending by spurs. We should have stole it at the end but cuducini made a good save!

Is it me or is Avram Grunt been taking lessons from Arsen Finger.

When asked afterwards about the tackle by Cole on Hutton, guess what his response was "I didn't see it" then when asked about Cole turning his back on the referee when being booked again he replied "I didn't see it"

That's ****ing convenient, I'd bet any money if it was the other way round he'd have seen it.

I thought the first half was pretty good. It's a joy to watch such a talented passer like Huddlestone spray the ball around. 2nd half was pretty **** to be honest. Me bumhole was twitching when Robbo dithered then came out only for Kanu to knock it past him and it's a good job chimbonda managed to clear.

Spurs snatch Newcastle target Modric
Luka Modric signs for £15.8million

Tottenham have pulled off a major coup by signing 22-year old midfielder Luka Modric from under the noses of Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle.

The highly-rated Dinamo Zagreb star will cost Tottenham £15.8million and marks the start of Juande Ramos summer overhaul of his underachieving Spurs side.

Modric's silky, two-footed passing captured worldwide attention after starring in Croatia's home and away victories over England in the Euro 2008 qualifiers.

While Modric's arrival at White Hart Lane will have Jermaine Jenas and Tom Huddlestone looking over their shoulders, the news that Tottenham have agreed personal terms is also a major blow to Newcastle.

It's the second time this season the Tyneside club have been gazumped by Ramos, after losing out on Jonathan Woodgate earlier this year.

On Tuesday, Modric was reported to have been on Tyneside to discuss a move to St James' Park. Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan admitted, "If you had a list of the midfield players around Europe who Newcastle could possibly attract, Luka Modric would be one of them."

He continued prophetically, "I think he would be pretty much on everyone else's list as well because he is a fantastic prospect."

Flab
04-26-2008, 09:58 AM
Modrić agreed terms for Tottenham on April 26, 2008 subject to a medical and receiving a work permit. The fee was reported to be around £15.8 million for a 5 year contract, beginning in the summer of 2008. However, it is believed that additional financial clauses could take the total transfer fee to £20.5million, surpassing the club's record fee set by Darren Bent's £16.5million move in 2007

-CANE-
04-26-2008, 12:33 PM
Good to see a signing already but I'm really not sure. It's a lot of money for a 22 year old yet to prove themselves.

Saw his highlights on youtube and wasn't that impressed, and if you put that next to Keane or Berbatov highlights then they'd have to be worth £40 to £50 million.

But I was wrong about Woodgate, providing he stays injury free and hopefully I'm wrong about this guy.

We need another central defender as it looks like there will be no more Ledley King as of next season. I reported a good few months back that he has serious problems and can only play 1 game in 3 which many of you found hard to believe and has been the case. If he can't prove he is over his knee problems then he will be gone which is a shame because he is still only 27 and a hugely talented player.

No disrespect to Liverpool, but he'd be mad to go there and sit on the bench.

He has played for many clubs but settled with us nicely, he loves it here, the fans love him and he plays week in week out. We are in uefa again and have bought some good players with more hopefully to come and might push for CL in the next 2-3 years.

Fair point, but I think he'd start a fair amount of games for them. Because of his versatility. I don't think players mind sitting on the bench for a top 4 club these days, look at SWP?

Dos Santos by all accounts is a very good player. I know its hard to go by youth tournaments but he bossed the youth world cup a couple of years back. He has the natural ability to go all the way.

The only question marks over him are is he able to adjust to the physical nature of the prem and will he be able to keep focused. A young kid on his own with lots of money in London is a recipe for disaster if you ask me. But Ramos seems like the sort of guy that will keep a good eye on these sorts of situations.

Plus he's pretty decent on footy manager! Which i know isnt strictly real but is usually quite accurate!!

If we hold on to Steed we should have a good squad in terms of the left side. I think Gilberto will come good and provided Bale stays fit we should do ok.

I agree about losing Keano over Dimi, looking like he's going to Man Yoo now. I'm not sure about Santa Cruz as a replacement. I hope last season wasn't a fluke.

Arshavin would consider Spurs (http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_3864192,00.html)

Andrei Arshavin's agent has told Sky Sports News that the Zenit St Petersburg playmaker would be interested in a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Arshavin has been strongly linked with a transfer away from Petrovsky Stadium after he impressed for Russia at Euro 2008.

Barcelona have so far failed in their attempts to sign the 27-year-old after their offer of £12million fell short of Zenit's reported asking fee of £24million.

The Russian champions recently claimed that Spurs have made an enquiry for Arshavin; however the North London club have yet to confirm or deny the reports.

The in-demand star has previously expressed his desire to sign for Barca, but, with the Spanish giants seemingly unwilling to up their previous bid, the player's agent has suggested he would be keen to sign for Tottenham.

Arshavin's representative, Dennis Lachter, has also revealed that the forward will demand high wages, with press reports on Friday claiming he is seeking £100,000-a-week.

Lachter told the Daily Mirror: "The price is very high, as are the personal terms.

"Let us see what happens in the future. It may need English clubs to sell some players first."

If Keano goes to Pool I'd be happy if we got Arshavin as a replacement. Obviously Zenit will have to lower their demands.

Looks like the Tottenham board are finally going to do something right for a change.

Selling Berbs to AC Milan instead of Man Utd, even if it means we get £10m less for him. I can handle that, Lets not sell any of our best players to the top 4 clubs, otherwise the gap just gets wider and harder for us to break in

If Keane wants to go, let him **** off but not to a top 4 club.

I'm telling you now we don't need or want Arshavin, even if we sell keano and berbs. Mark my words, BIG MISTAKE especially the sums and wages they are talking about.

Let the cunt prove himself in the premiership first. I've seen these big money buys from Russia/Ukraine flop big time.

Rebrov £11m, (was a big fan until he played for us,biggest waste of money we've spent along with D.Bent and Modric (wait and see)

Shevchenko £30m and worlds best striker and our **** goalkeeper Paul Robinson can score more goals in a season.

So who should we get to replace Keane and Berbs? As big a waste of money as it was Bent needs a run in the team and to build his confidence and he needs someone to play behind him (Dos Santos) could be the man but I think it will take a few seasons until we see the best of him.

I'd try and sign Lucas Podolski.

Can someone confirm if we actually did a permanent deal with Defoe. I keep arguing with a mate of mine who says it was only a loan, but I think the deal was changed at the last minutes and is actually a permanent one.

I'd be gutted if Keane left but I'd understand. I'm hoping Dimi goes to Milan or Barca, it's not a good state of affairs if we're Man U's feeder club. Podolski or Pavluychenko would be fine as replacements.

Jamie O'Hara is elated that new signing Giovani dos Santos has joined Tottenham, and is convinced the 19-year-old Mexican will be a huge hit with Spurs fans and players alike.

The two have spent time together during Tottenham's two week training stint in Spain, and the midfielder spoke of the close bond the duo have already formed.

'I've been rooming with Gio and he's a great lad.

'We've had a real laugh already and I think we'll become close friends.

'He's always smiling, laughing, having a joke and he's got a heart of gold - he'll help you out with anything.

'His English is getting better and better and he's a great guy to be around.

'The lads have all taken to him well and he'll be a great player to have around,' O'Hara told the club's official website.

Gio looks to have settled in pretty well, hope the lad does well for us!

First of all I think Keane is easily worth it, but that's my opinion. He was the one player I really wanted us to keep. It's cool if you don't think so, we are all entitled to our own opinion. If he plays nearly every game he'll get between 20 and 25 goals in all competitions.

Secondly for us to sell Keane and Berbatov (highly likely) as both wanted to go, then I would like to think that we are pretty confident of getting some decent replacements. Money is no object and we could afford pretty much anyone if they are prepared to accept the fact we have a wage structure and won't earn as much as what some other clubs will pay.

We've already spent on Gomes,Modric and quality youngsters Dos Santos and Bostock. I'd like to see David Villa certainly, but as good as they are I'm not so sure on spending huge sums on Pavlichenko and Arshavin. Look at Rebrov and Shevchenko, both fantastic until they came to the premiership. I'm thinking Russian and Ukranian are pretty similar and will they be able to adapt.

The Iron Man

Keane is definatley worth that much. Mayb more he scored the same amount of goals as berbatov and is the same age and his going fro 25-30m.
I hope we can get one of those players Villa looks good, we definatley wont get all 3.
I just watched spurs on setanta beat norwich 5-1 Bent scoring 4 goals. Dos Santos and Modric both looked very impressive and Gomes made a good save. Also King played 45mins which is a good sign.

5-0 against Roma and a good result, but don't read too much into it.

Roma are a few weeks behind us in their pre-season and we always have a good pre-season, but we need to convert these performances and get off to a good start.

On radio 5 live some spurs fans getting carried away and saying top4 this year.

Top 4 my arse, we will be between 10th and 14th and have no european football next season.

I expect to be in the top 6-8. If we get Corluka and Arshavin I'd be confident of reaching that target. We're not conceding which is a plus point, it's only pre-season but I think Ramos is beginning to put his stamp on Spurs.

As much as I would love that to be the case I disagree, they have a small squad but have a strong core element in Howard, Baines, Yobo, Lescott, Jagielka Arteta, Neville, Cahill, Pienaar and Yakubu. They also have money to spend and have a couple of good players lined up including Joćo Moutinho.

Didnt realise hutton was out for 2 months!!. Ive seen Gunter playing and even tho his young he didnt look to bad. So if we dnt replace get another RB he would do a better job than Y.P Lee or Zokora. Corluka can play at CB and RB, he's 6'4" so that's why I was harping on about him. Doesn't look like that's going to happen to it's looking like Zokora at RB, Gunter is too green at the minute. Less said about Lee the better.

Don Gorgon

Ramos' position is pretty safe. Can't see him getting sacked to be honest.

Can't keep losing games like today though, Wheater has a legit goal disallowed in the first half.

I did say we would struggle this season. Between 10th and 14th becuase we have no defense as they are all injury prone and not consistant when they do play and we lost Keane and Berbs and not replaced them.

Woodgate hasn't been injured since he's joined us, Bale only suffered 1 injury which was season ending. The injury prone thing is a bit of a myth to be honest. I think Bale should be playing at left back, Assou Ekotto is toilet. Dawson is ****ing ****! Sign Corluka ASAP Levy!.

I think we'll be in the top 6.

The Iron Man
08-16-2008, 03:40 PM
There are plenty of great centre backs out there. Yeh King and woodgate are the injury prone defenders and Woodgate has been fit and playing well since he joined.
Hutton was a big blow since we sold Chimbonda, its just so annoying watching a team with so much potential lose stupid games like this.

That's not just bold, that's superbold!.

Top 6 would be more realistic. Top 4 will definitely remain the same. Some people seem to think because we lost to Boro (Riverside is a graveyard for most) that we're the worst team in the world.

I think we'll bounce back but Ramos needs to realise that Dawson is facking toilet and needs to be sold to East Stirling!

Juande Ramos tells Spurs fans to calm down, it's a long season - Daily Mail link (http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/sport/football/article-1047994/Juande-Ramos-tells-Spurs-fans-calm-long-season.html?ITO=1490)

Tottenham manager Juande Ramos has urged the club's fans to give his new side time to prove they can challenge the elite this season.

Spurs supporters are already concerned after seeing their side lose 2-1 at Middlesbrough on the opening day.

Ramos gave four players their debuts but £15.8million midfielder Luka Modric and £4.7m winger Giovani dos Santos, in particular, failed to shine.

Fans are also worried at the prospect of having Darren Bent as their only striker as Dimitar Berbatov looks set to join Manchester United.

But Ramos said: "It is all about a gentle settling in process.

A lot of players have come from foreign countries and need some time to settle in here.

"Modric has never played outside the Croatian league and Dos Santos is only 19 years old.

"My message to the fans would be to remain calm. They shouldn't worry because it is a long season ahead. We know we need a forward but I reiterate, stay calm."

But the former Sevilla coach has confirmed that captain Ledley King is unlikely to play a full part this season due to his long standing knee injury.

King claimed last week he would be fit enough to play three games a week and yet was on the bench last Saturday.

Ramos said: "He possibly was not right at the start of the season. We take it on a match-by-match basis and see if he is fit to play.

"His knee is not something you can predict a year ahead, you have to look at the short term. He has trained well without any negative reaction over the past two days so we will see if he plays against Sunderland tomorrow."

It's the part I bolded that worries me, why would Juande be looking for a striker when he's not convinced Ledley can play a full part this season. Dawson clearly isn't cutting the mustard. If City sign Kompany that should clear the path for Corluka to join us so that would be a bonus.

Nervous about tomorrows game as it's a must win, can't see us getting anything against Chelsea next week at the Bridge. I've got my ticket so I'm hoping I get to witness Chelsea's home record come to an end.

It's like I keep saying we need several more players, this team is evolving. If King cannot prove his fitness he has to go, as much as it pains me. Dawson needs to improve and become consistant. Sometimes he does some brilliant defending and there is no doubting his commitment, but he is slow and cumbersome and made to look very stupid at times.

The whole Berbatov thing is just dragging on far too long, sooner he goes the better.

Dawson is straight garbage, was at fault for 3 Boro goals (1 disallowed wrongly). He's a liability. He needs to get benched till he gets his game back. Agreed about Ledley, he's probably the highest paid player so the fact he can't string 3 games together means he's a waste of money. Pains me to say that also.

Really hoping Corluka comes in before we face Chelsea. Hutton is out for another few weeks which isn't good either!

Just read that arshavin could be comming aswell, along with Corluka and Miguel Veloso. Veloso is a brilliant defensive midfielder and to bring him in would sort out the defensive side of our midfield.
One thing that confuses me if we do get this player is having too many midfield players:

Jenas, Modric, Dos Santos, Huddlestone, Zokora, Lennon, Bentley, O'Hara. and now possibly (hopefully) Veloso. Thats 8 (9) midfielders, someone has to go!.

was at the game yesterday, thought the goal lifted us and we were positive in the 2nd half. Obviously Ramos does better against the top 4 than he does against the rest.

Getting Corluka is a massive plus as it gives us options at RB, CB and DM. Pavluychenko will help Bent as he was pretty isolated yesterday, in the 2nd half Modric came into his own and was up there with Bent giving him support.

GDS needs to sit on the bench for a bit now we got Pavluychenko.

http://sport.setanta.com/upload/Sport/Football/2008-2009/Spain/milito_no.jpg

Tottenham target Diego Milito has agreed to re-join Serie A side Genoa, according to reports in Italy.

The Real Zaragoza striker has been prolific in Spain and had been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Tottenham thought to be interested.

However, it appears the 29-year-old Argentina international has opted to return to his former club in Italy.

Milito first joined Genoa in 2004, scoring 33 goals in 59 matches in Serie B.

As for Zokora i am not a fan at all, he can run fast thats about it his passing is very very poor as is his finishing. To move forward we dnt need mediocre players like him.

GDS looks bright with the ball and has an eye for the pass, his still young and i dont like seeing him on the right. Im confident he will prove a good buy.
