View Full Version : Kobe vs. Shaq?
chito 10-21-2004, 06:30 AM Lakers formidable duo of Shaq and Kobe is gone! Shaq has shifted to Miami while Kobe remained to be with the Lakers. I've seen the new Lakers team played Sacramento last night in a pre-season tussle and i can't help to think about who has made the better deal of it. Can Shaq carry the Miami heat to the playoffs? Which team would fare well? My answer is, it would depend on how strong is Shaq's back-up and how dominant really is Kobe and his ability to lead a team (he is often compared to michael jordan.. can he lift this new team of his to a championship crown?). What is your opinion on this?
INFAMOUZ 10-23-2004, 07:10 AM mismatch shaq no mercy
jack_the_rippuh 10-23-2004, 10:45 AM My vote goes to shaq simply because he's one of a kind. People can argue that Kobe's scoring ability can be matched by many other SG/SF in the league (i.e. Tracy McGrady and Paul Pierce, etc.) However, Shaq can't be compared to anyone....Or no one can be compared to him.
The Fix 10-23-2004, 11:03 AM no one can carry a team like shaq could. if he is on your team you automatically become a contender.kobe rode shaq's coat tails for three championships the lakers this year wont make the playoffs
SonnyG8R 10-23-2004, 11:08 AM comparing Kobe to Jordan is like comparing a 72 Pinto to a 2004 Farrari.
The Lakers Brass f'ed up huge!! The basically chose Kobe over both Shaq and Phil Jackson.
QueenCity 10-23-2004, 01:29 PM Kobe is way too selfish. I really belive he puts getting himself 30 points a game right up there, if not ahead of winning.

I know right...
When the game is close to the end if he is no where near his average and he knows they're going to lose, he's going to start shooting trey's like crazy..

Tha Greatest 10-23-2004, 08:26 PM SACRAMENTOS GONNA WIN THIS YEAR !!!! i hope
i'ma go with my hometown
but who won lakers vs sacramento
maxpayne 10-24-2004, 09:22 PM shaq all the way. shaq is going to be mvp this year, he is in great shape.
oldgringo 10-24-2004, 10:03 PM Shaq over Kobe.
The Kobe/Jordan comparisons are ludicrous. We won't see another Jordan for a long time...that includes Lebron.
Shaq is the most dominant presence in the NBA ever. Wilt and MJ come in right after that. I've never seen anyone triple teamed as often. If Shaq had been guarded heads up his entire career he would have already topped Kareem, Wilt, and Bill Russell as the best center ever. I think he rates just behind all three at this point.
Neuraxis 10-24-2004, 10:15 PM Shaq over Kobe.

There is no way that any of them could possibly guard Shaq, but they all have better offensive skills than him.
ispayder 10-24-2004, 10:20 PM I'd go for Shaq and the Miami Heat for next years championship.
psychopath 10-25-2004, 08:58 AM I'm a traditional LAKER fan. Since the days of Karrem ABDUL Jabbar, MAGIC jOHNSON, Kirk Rambis, Norm Nixon etc, until now. But it's way out of line comparing Kobe to Jordan. While it's true that Kobe has the guts, the skills and the moves of his own . . . the guy doesn't have the charisma of leadership that Jordan have. The ability to motivate his whole team.
There will always be only one JORDAN.
I saw their game against the Golden Warriors which they lost . . . DAMN this early I can see that MY TEAM will be lucky to survive the magic 8. :D

They are lacking in the center slot, Lamar Odom is good but cannot play the center position! But this team is young, same with Miami, after the season ends next year, Lakers should get a big man that can play good defense and can rebound well!

Exactly Bro. . . a very young team and if they can find a good consistent center man . . . plus develop their cohesiveness . . . they'll be a contender once again. ;)

I'm rooting for Miami Heat now, how about you? I've been a Lakers fan since the time of Kareem and Magic Johnson, it's only now that I switch to another team, maybe I find it exciting to watch Shaq over Kobe.
I think Miami Heat has a good chance to earn a playoffs berth, i just don't know if they are the team to beat and i don't like to predict that they would make it to the Finals either! Which is the team to beat today in the NBA, many players have gone with another team like nash, t-mac, who else?
I think T-Wolves has a good chance to dethrone Pistons this season.
Pistons has kept their team intact and they are still the team to beat this coming season, do you agree? Last year i have followed Lakers from day 1 until the end of the season, i really thought they could have beaten the Pistons in the Finals though (it's just that the problem with the Lakers were themselves and there's no way they can resolve it right away before that lost to Pistons).
Miami Heat has a better chance than the Lakers this coming NBA season because the former has a deeper line up, Laettner & Wang Zhi Zhi will provide a big help for Shaq and Wade. I can't wait to see Miami in action, i hope Shaq won't get injured.

Well indeed Miami has a better chance this season I'll agree to that but I'll stick to my old team  I have stuck it out with L.A. win or loose ever since, even during the Jordan era so why change now. :)
My guess? This is going to be a battle royal between Pistons, Miami Heat, Kings, Timberwolves and Spurs for the title. :D
jack_the_rippuh 10-27-2004, 09:56 PM For the record, I'll be the first to say that Jordan was great, but people forget about how he did have a good team as well.
SonnyG8R 10-27-2004, 10:59 PM **** the Red Sox!

The Stons will manhandle the Heat, manhandle the Kings, beat the T-Wolves in 6, and beat the Spurs in 6 should they play these teams for the title. They have enough big bodies to throw at Shaq and the Heat are still just too damned inexperienced to run with one of the best TEAMS of the last 20 years...Sheed and KG would be a nice battle to watch. Sheed is tall enough and long enough to guard KG and Duncan.
miron_lang 10-28-2004, 04:52 AM The Lakers will be lucky to get past the first round IF and IF they make the playoffs!
Shaq's MIAMI will dispute the east againts the Pistons and Indiana

I share your view on this, Lakers doesn't have a strong line-up this season. Many basketball critics have said that Miami has been the one which benefited from the trade between Shaq and the 3 Miami Heat players! I agree. And i believe that Shaq is still that dominating and intimidating even if he's already 32 years old!
Well, the the tip-off is coming this November, and Miami Heat is about to test it with Shaq in their front line! Let us see what he can do... one thing is for sure this is gonna be exciting the teams are so balance! Pistons has the edge but not that dominant.

Shaq is a very young 32 ;) Stats will show that Kevin Garnett and Tim Duncan are the 2 most dominant player today, BUT if Shaq is in his elements not even a double team can stop him! IF Miami gets out of the East they will be the NBA Champs!! :)

I used to live in Woodland Ca. small world. I grew up in the Bay Area.... :D
SonnyG8R 03-31-2005, 11:04 AM Ha ha, well i guess it's pretty clear now who was more valuable between the 2. The lakers were just on an 8 game losing streak and are in danger of not even making the playoffs. Lmao!
**** Kobe and the Lakers.
You know Shaq and Phil are laughing their ass off.

i agree wit duncan but not with garnett. his team might miss the playoffs after winning the west last year. imo a truly dominant player doesnt let that happen.
as of right now shaq is the mvp, just look at the lakers and heat last year compared to now. steve nash and allen iverson deserve a lot of credit but they are not doing what Shaq is.
my mvp vote(if i had one)
Shaq... best player in league
Iverson...carrying the sixers, maybe his best season yet
Nash.... leads leauge in assists but doesnt play defence
Duncan... might be first or second but injuries

The Suns are very mediocre without Nash. If you look at splits for what he's done for Amare Stoundamire ALONE you'd see that Amare is only decent without him. The only rock on that team outside of Nash is Shawn Marion. The rest of the guys depend on his presence on the floor.
Iverson is deperately trying to get the sixers a secure spot in the playoffs and I agree that he may be having his best season yet...BUT...they do have C-Webb now and they have put together some nice players around Ivos and they are still struggling. Iverson, Webber, Iguodala, Dalembert, Korver should be one of the top teams in the east down the stretch but they aren't getting it done so far.
The injuries are plaguing Duncan right now.
My vote as of today would go to Shaq or Nash. Honerable mentions would be Ivos, Duncan and Bron.

I share the exact same feelings. Anyone ever heard Kobe's attempt at a rap career? HILARIOUS! I will post it in the music spot, if I dont, someone PM me to remind me. It's so ****in horrible, that it's laugh out loud funny! As far as fighting, Kobe got tossed on top of a scorer's table by Reggie Miller, Shaq would destroy kobe.
chito 04-01-2005, 07:08 AM lakers has lost again to twolves today and is 6 wins behind grizzlies. twolves and memphis are fighting for the last spot in the playoffs. lakers couldn't make it this year to the playoffs but miami is in it and could install shaq as this year's mvp. how about that?
EvilMark 04-03-2005, 09:59 AM SHaq is the man
