Mijares is world champion. This is different from a champion of a particularly country, who is the highest rated boxer in his division and in his country but NOT a world champion. In this case Gaona is the highest rated Mexican superfly in his country, hence being called Mexican champion.

What i meant was highest rated boxer in a particular country NOT included in the world rankings. Mijares is world-rated hence he is more on the higher tier of ranking when it comes to his weight division.

country champions usually fight in their own turf or are pitted against boxers from other countries which are NOT usually world-rated.

Mexican fans watch the fights, crosses the boarder, Mexicans from Mexico and from the U.S. buy tickets, gamble, watch on television, increase ratings, exposed to commercials. Promoters, Casinos, Advertisers, etc. make a profit on Mexicans. Young Mexicans see fame, money, get motivated, cycle continues...

Filipino fighter fights:... Asks for what?? Chump change?? Still living in a shanty, selling cigarettes, cant concentrate on training...Can't get promoted by anyone that'll make a difference. Fight for food, money and the love of boxing. Manny Pacquiao went to several promoters and went with the shadiest bastard because NOBODY would promote him nor train him... Found Roach. Still couldn't get fights... Got lucky replaced fighter againts Ledwaba...Made waves,, made more waves, beat legends, opened doors, Promoters see Pinoys buy tickets and PPVs too, rich ones travel via airplane to watch live.... Alot of Gamblers... Promoters go to Philippines to find more talent so they can get richer...Golden Boys signs ALA stable...Donaire, Condes, Penalosa become World Champions almost instantly..... Top Rank signs multiple Pinoys including their latest aquisitions as of yesterday Gonzales and Maraon. List of Pinoy prospects keeps on growing, more young kids see success in boxing, cycle renews....As long as promoters see $$$ signs, we see more fighters... Haters don't like that...Haters scared....Xcaret has never seen so many Pinoys boxing on t.v. before...

Yo Xcaret if you claim that it is talent and dedication that gets Mexican fighters exposed and renowned and not proximity and ability to make money because of that proximity..
