View Full Version : Amateur Weight Question
EsePelon 09-29-2007, 12:27 PM So last night I was going to fight but the guy had 10 pounds on me. I weight 117 and the guy was at 127, I chose not to fight since I had bad experience in my first 2 fights fighting someone 15 pounds over me. Was that a good decison not fighting and waiting till today to fight someone exactly my weight?

i dono, was it? thats not a question u can ask on these boards. it was either a good decision, or a bad one, u make the choice. we cant tell u if its good or bad, ur the one fighting dude. if u win tonight, i guess it was a good decision, if u dont, i guess u'll never know, will ya?
either way good luck tonight and let us know how it goes...
British Pitbull 09-29-2007, 12:55 PM Whats 10 pound in kg's, i normally don't fight people who weigh 1 - 2 kg's heavier than me

1kg = 2.2 pounds
British Pitbull 09-29-2007, 01:02 PM In that case it was a good decision not to fight him, thats quite a lot of weight to give away and you was saying you had fights with guys 15 pounds heavier than you, ****.
PunchDrunk 09-29-2007, 02:20 PM Definitely a good decision. Especially since you're relatively light. 10 lbs difference at bantamweight is a LOT more than 10 lbs difference at heavyweight!

Weight is an issue, but it is not the biggest issue in boxing. Floyd Mayweather said in a prefight interview that weight doesn't win fights. Styles make fights. What did you know about your opponent other than his weight? Does he have a style that would be difficult or easy for you? Do you have a style that is tough for opponents to solve? Are you easy to hit? What are your natural advantages? The only time that weight should become the biggest consideration is when you have poor boxing skills and you are trying to avoid getting the crap beat out of you!
shyboirank#1 09-30-2007, 12:49 AM you guys still look and watch at thier weight if ur that good and you know boxing weight doesn't mean a thing

No. Why do you think there is weight classes in boxing?!
People with more mass behind them hit harder, its called physics.
Gato2012 07-25-2008, 09:10 AM where is there amateur shows 2 days in a row is what i want to know. Usually have to wait at least a week man.
KostyaTszyu44 07-25-2008, 09:16 AM ahhh potatoes and sadler youre both kinda right.... but first of all floyd is a freak he has second to none skills and he could take on heavyweights and come out clean
in sparring i take on guys who are 25 kgs heavier but a bit less skilled so i hold my own...but when the skills are at the same level then weight becomes an advantage yes....if i had a choice between a guy 10 lbs heavier and a guy my own size, i would fight the guy my size, so you made the right choice and are fighting the guy your size. but if you are a good counterpuncher with fast hands and reflexes you can sometimes fight heavier guys, but if you are inexperienced and as light as yourself or me (100 lbs) its best to not **** around with weight, you can get hurt
so its a 50/50 issue i guess

if you want to get into physics, then u would also know that velocity will have an influence on the total external force.
SOY-COMO-SOY 07-27-2008, 06:22 PM fight some people that are like 5lbs lighter than u. that way you have a better chance at winning and if you win it will give you a boost of confidence.
