View Full Version : Fighter of The Year So Far LuKahnLi 09-21-2004, 05:00 PM Who is the fighter of the year so far? Who do you think WILL be the fighter of the year when all is said and done? LuKahnLi 09-21-2004, 05:29 PM I'm thinking Morales is FOTY and will be if he gets past Barrera. If he doesn't......then its Tarver. abdiel2k3 09-21-2004, 05:50 PM i really dont get how u can have morales and tarver in the same category i guess tarvers there cuz he kod roy in the 2nd fight in the 2nd round but i hardly think that merits a fighter of the year praise just my opinion tho Even tho its the right opinion Sir_Jose 09-21-2004, 06:54 PM Diego Corrales wins over Cassamayor and Frietas and might fight Castillo later in the year. If he beats Castillo then he is a flat out lock to win FOY baliw_nga 09-21-2004, 08:34 PM I think its a fight between Diego and Erik. If ERik beats Barrera convincingly, then he's a lock for FOTY. neils7147933 09-21-2004, 08:42 PM Corrales has TWO Big wins in the year; the other 2 choices have just one. That makes it easy to call right now. If Danny williams wins in December, it could be argued that it's him. If Morales beats Barrera decisively, I would consider him. If Tarver sits idle, I can't say it's him just because he only fought 2 rounds. .::|ULTIMATE|::. 09-21-2004, 08:43 PM Erik Morales in my opinion is fighter of the year. Probably the most active champ today. He will fight 3 times this year. This year a alone he went up in weight obtained a new major world title, then unified it, and is off to fight a fighter who many analysts believe has his number. NiGe2011 09-21-2004, 09:11 PM The fighter of the year HAS to be Diego 'Chico' Corrales! Tarver has only one big win to his credit this year, and while it was huge that alone cannot carry him. Morales has been active but against the likes of Jesus Chavez and Carlos Hernandez! The fact of the matter is that Diego has won two fights against top pound for pound type guys, first the outpointing of slick box Joel Casamayor then handing pucher Frietas his first loss! grayfist 09-21-2004, 09:23 PM Based on the number of appearances both fought and announced), MORALES; based on the quality of the fights fought and the opposition, CORRALES. Chavez cannot be compared to Popo and Joel is far and away better than anyone Morales has faced this year. If Morales wins over Barrera under highly controversial circumstances, then CORRALES gets even better looking later in the year. If Morales wins over Barrera decisively, I'd consider him for a tie with Diego. Tarver KO'd Jones, who arguably is among the greatest in the history of the sport. The stature of the victim makes Tarver's accomplishment sterling. But, nah, not Fighter of the Year. One can't be proclaimed such based on two rounds fought. QueenCity 09-21-2004, 11:44 PM the only guy I seeing having a chance to take fighter of the year away from Corrales is Danny Williams,if he pulls of the shocker and beat Klitschko. Taking out Vitali and Tyson to go from Heavyweight chump to Heavyweight champ is a pretty good year's work. Hurlex 09-21-2004, 11:47 PM any word on diego corrales' next fight? Sir_Jose 09-22-2004, 12:28 AM any word on diego corrales' next fight? Micheal Katz reported that Showtime has accepted a fight between Corrales and Jose Luis Castillo for later in the year, but its not official yet. .::|ULTIMATE|::. 09-22-2004, 01:06 AM Micheal Katz reported that Showtime has accepted a fight between Corrales and Jose Luis Castillo for later in the year, but its not official yet. are u kidding???? thats hella crazy. Hurlex 09-22-2004, 01:09 AM castillo????holy crap...i dont think diego is ready Winter 09-22-2004, 01:58 AM I think fighter of the year is Tarver. What he did was very difficult. Roy Jones is not an easy fighter to knock out. Sir_Jose 09-22-2004, 02:15 AM This was the news about a week ago couple of possible Dec. 4 Showtime cards - Murad Muhammad has accepted Joel Casamayor as an opponent for Manny Pacquiao or a lightweight showdown between Jose Luis Castillo and Diego Corrales…..Frankly, I’d pay twice as much for a double-header of those lighter guys than I would for anything with heavyweights…. - Micheal Katz he wrote that in his collum over at Max, but you cant get it free anymore. I gues they took it down. but today I see that Castillo is on the undercard of Morales/MAB 3. abdiel2k3 09-22-2004, 02:28 AM u wanna talkabout not good opposition talk bout popo he only fought casamayor al the rest he fought and built his rep on were bumbs no doubt chico beat the **** out of frietas but chavez was not far off in skills and and had more determenation as he got up form two knockdowns and finished the fight with and injury popo was just over hyped morales faced guys that were supposdely gonna be to strong and to relentless whoich they were but he beat them on skills and by fighten them when he chose too how can ya argue anyone deserves FOY other then him? now if chico beats Castillo not gets a win but beats him then hes defintly up there all ill say for tarver is one fight dont make u fighter of the year maybe we can give him punch of the year but hardly a fighter of the year mr. bojangles 09-22-2004, 06:33 AM Fighter of the year has to be Chicco Corrales for his back-to-back excellent performance. He avenged his loss to Casa and showed that he can box, that jab was very effective in keeping Casa at bay and in setting up his right hand. Then he showed a lot of patience and power in destroying Popo Freitas. Tarver is a close 2nd for slipping that lucky punch against the top P4P fighter  enabling him to walk his big talk. J ! 09-22-2004, 06:54 AM Depnds theres a few: in achievement, Tarver, Hopkins, Chico, Cotto, in no particular order. Williams has to be in the mix as upset of the year. LuKahnLi 09-22-2004, 08:43 AM If Corrales does fight and beat Castillo. Then ya'll are correct. He is FOTY. jabsRstiff 09-22-2004, 10:11 AM Corrales is my choice. Chavez & Hernandez are tough pugs, but not as DIFFICULT to beat as guys like Casamayor & Freitas. Tarver scored the single biggest victory of the year, but it seems like he'll be on his ass for the rest of it. Not enough to garner the honor. LuKahnLi 09-22-2004, 03:03 PM Jabs, I can agree with that. But Diego hasn't any plans for the rest of the year yet while Morales is fighting Barrera a thrid time. If Morales beats Barrera, doesn't he get the honors over Diego? Palma 09-22-2004, 03:06 PM I'd like to see Hopkins receive fighter of the year. I don't think Tarver deserves it. He hasn't really done much over the year to deserve any award except for the belt he now wears around his waist from knocking RJJ on his ass. puppy_dogg 09-22-2004, 03:08 PM morales is definetly the man among these three. i hope he gets four weight divisions before he goes out, so we'll see what he does after the mab rubber match.
