Slotff 09-04-2007, 11:46 PM My reaction time got better over the course of sparring many rounds, for many months. Doing drills practicing the certain thing, and then trying to anticipate and set it up in sparring. Its all about anticipation. -AZZA- 09-04-2007, 11:49 PM sparring and floor to ceiling bag are best, if you can ever work with a partner then you can get them to throw jabs at you while you dodge and swap around and do it for him ForemanCrossArm 09-05-2007, 12:26 AM a giant wall-mounted simon-sez. VERSATILE2K9 09-05-2007, 12:28 AM A slip bag like Tyson used to use. Also try to use explosive defense. ForemanCrossArm 09-05-2007, 12:31 AM tie two jumpropes onto a bar, leave like 2-3 feet of length hanging down (making 4 weighted lengths, basically) knock them all back in a pattern or trying to keep any of them from swinging back a certain length, you can also use this set-up to work on slipping punches. i haven't done this, sorta just drew it up in my head. but i know people use it for slipping punches so working on hand-reaction would probably fit right in. floydfan 09-05-2007, 12:50 AM Floor to ceiling bag is a given, but if you are looking for something to help outside of training roy jones jr. swore by plaing hours of airhockey to get that incredible fast reacting defense and offence. -AZZA- 09-05-2007, 12:54 AM try and spunk on a moving fly DA1CATAS 09-05-2007, 10:54 AM A slip bag like Tyson used to use. Also try to use explosive defense. Hmm.. Explosive Defense??? I've never heard the term... Can you explaint his for me... sounds like something NEw... atleast new too me maybe. SpeedKillz 09-05-2007, 11:01 AM A slip bag like Tyson used to use. Also try to use explosive defense. elaborate please...... judge_jab 09-05-2007, 12:39 PM i'm sure it's a word he has just made up, I think he was trying to find a word for how Tyson slipped so fast, and it kinda works! :boxing: Rockin' 09-05-2007, 12:55 PM The only way that you are going to get any reaction time, to say, is to spar-spar-spar and then spar somemore. You wanna see the openings and then touch them, spar. You wanna see the shots coming and with out even thinking about it slip out iof the way, then spar some more. Its all about getting your eyes attuned to things coming at you, you ranger of the shots and so much more. I slip shots when I dont even see them, I just know that they should be coming. When slipping under a shot you can see the opponents hips and feet and they all cue you into whats happening, even though you dont see it. Reaction time is about getting the eyes to see it and recognize it..............Rockin':boxing: No1 09-05-2007, 01:33 PM I think the floor 2 celling ball will work to a certain degree but i believe it mainly comes down to natural ability. I saw this because look at roy jones no matter how hard you train you could never react like him, then look at another world champion like cotto for instance, he cant get out the way of shit and gets hit with everyshot his opponent throws, but hey he's a world champion and it hasn't done anything to harm him. So keep training it but dont be upset if you cant react to your desired level. shawn_ 09-05-2007, 04:25 PM Your reaction times are set in stone. They will appear to get better as you spar more simply because you think less and react more, but your reaction times are not something you can improve. Its like trying to increase your IQ, its just not going to happen. Its a function of the neurological makeup that you were born with. Smokin' 09-05-2007, 04:32 PM it's called genetics and natural athleticism. Not everyone's got it... Salty 09-06-2007, 04:14 AM The aus cricket team trains their reaction times with a big board of lights where one will flash and you have to hit it, so yes it can be trained, but only to a certain extent. Also people who play fast paced (first person shooter sort of games) computer games have been shown to have quicker reflexes than those who don't. Although i don't know if that will improve your boxing. VERSATILE2K9 09-06-2007, 05:36 PM Hmm.. Explosive Defense??? I've never heard the term... Can you explaint his for me... sounds like something NEw... atleast new too me maybe. Like over exaggerating your defensive moves, like bending more, getting out the way of punches alot quicker.Pretend like there is a person in front of you instead of a bag.Use of fast foot movement can also help your reaction times. So in other words do your defensive moves as if you're really hyper. Therefore when you get in there sparring or having a match,it would seem normal, yet your reacting alot quicker to what the person throws. That was the way I thought myself to slip punches quickly.Im constantly moving my head and torso when hitting the bag. Also my foot movement.I pop the bag with a combo, and get out of there quickly and go to the other side, bout time the bag swings back the direction I was at. Also asking your trainer to go quick with you on the mitts and play offense and defense, that way you can work on your reaction times alot quicker.Once you get hit hard enough in the head with the mitts, you'll react alot quicker. I mean some fast offensive punches from your trainer, and for him not to tell you when he throws them.Even when on the mitts I get really hyper and over exaggerate everything, so Im used to exploding with my defense. The faster you react with you exploding with defense. The faster you can counter the ****er and they wont even see it. I caught my body doing it during 1 sparring session and it kinda freaked me out and make me smile. Its like your body just does what it wants. Sometimes im ducking and bobbing and I cant even see due to my headgear, yet the person rarely touches me,yet I dont even know where they're swinging. Its weird once it happens to you. nvme 09-06-2007, 11:08 PM Your reaction times are set in stone. Its simple, if ur a tenth grader, n u leave ur IQ level will generally b less than a university graduate. themonk 09-07-2007, 01:37 PM i dont believe you cant increase reactions, hand eye and spacial awareness are all skills, and like pele said "everything is practice" TheWolf 09-08-2007, 12:13 AM Its a scientific fact the healthier you are the faster your reaction times will be. Its also a fact the shorter your limbs are, the faster they will react in boxing. If youre bigger than RJJ, youre probably not going to ever be as fast as him. Working on some above mentioned regiments will help you acheive your maximum level of reaction athleticism. Rockin' 09-11-2007, 07:01 PM [QUOTE=shawn_;2637831]Your reaction times are set in stone.
