View Full Version : Boxing and social life
British Pitbull 09-02-2007, 06:34 PM Ok so wen I box i train hard, keep of alcohol and junk food and ****, but I always feel like quitting cos i think im missing out on good nights out with my friends, missing out on alot of girls, eating junk etc.
but wen i take 2 long off boxing I just feel like unfit and I wanna be back fighting again, but then after a while wen im back in the gym I'm in the same frame of mind thinking I wanna quit boxing 2 have that better social life, I'm confused any one else get the same feeling.
mickeyb 09-02-2007, 06:39 PM Yea its difficult. But just go out and have a couple of pints once a fortnight or something. You'll be alright.
Don't put your life on hold, if you can't live without one or the other. Do both. Just train that little bit harder.
VERSATILE2K12 09-02-2007, 06:42 PM Well think of it like this. You dedicate yourself to boxing, make some money from it,and your social live would be a whole lot better.;) With more time to have it too.
British Pitbull 09-02-2007, 06:44 PM I'm only amateur though and fight alot so it seems I cant do nothing else but train, dont get me wrong I do love it but its hard cos all any 1 does round here is go out and get pissed so im always left doing **** all.

I always take a day or 2 out of the month to get ****ed up.You should try that, not go to boxing and just get ****ed up that day. That way you scheduled it yourself and you wont feel half as bad.
FIGHTING_FLIP 09-02-2007, 06:53 PM i dont smoke or drink..all my friends do..when i got out with them im jus sittin there ****in wit them..but latley ive been stayin at home while everyone is out..and i just run..on friday i ran for about 1 hour..the longest i ever ran in my hole life..its a good way to think about what im doin with my life you no..i gotta be goin the right way

Good ****. True words.
British Pitbull 09-02-2007, 07:57 PM thinking about it im gonna give it a few days to think about properly but I very much doubt im gonna quit cos I dont wanna live to regret it, i no a few older people who gave it up and there always trailing in and out the gym never getting fighting fit again, I dont wanna end up like them.
One more 09-02-2007, 08:17 PM I think there are a lot of ways you can cut corners to make ends meet with your social life. But I also think that boxing is a hungry sport... meaning that the ones that do REALLY well are the ones who WANT it BAD. I used to play the violin for a proffession... and all my life people were telling me that being a musician is all about the hunger and the drive. They told me that being a real musician means letting it consume my life and loving it the whole way through... even through all the crap and torment in the practice room and the recording studio.
I'm not saying you don't train hard or that you should give up anything you don't wanna... but maybe you should look at just how much you really wanna box. Then look at what you're willing to give up. If you wanna box and go out with your mates you can do it. You can make it work if you're hungry enough :)
Smokin' 09-02-2007, 08:20 PM **** it man...take a couple days off a month to get completely ****ed up. But also think about it for a second...you're getting in sick shape, learning how to **** people up, while they are spending **** loads of money getting trashed and fatter in the process.
Exige Jr 09-02-2007, 08:23 PM I enjoy my training enough to never have this problem. And I have friends down the gym with me at the same time... maybe not the same friends who invite me out to go get pissed, but still friends of a different kind. We all been chucked together through our love of this sport, and here we are.
Then when the weekend comes and I do finally go out, people are always commenting on my appearance (physique) that I gained from boxing.
I find it pretty easy to balance the 2. I guess you gotta love your training though, cos that was my key.
Smokin' 09-02-2007, 08:30 PM I really don't know how some of you guys do it, especially if you go to school and ****. I barely have enough time to work out/exercise whenever I go back to school...it's always school then studying until bedtime or if I get off on my early days I go to work and then go to bed when I get home. Then on the weekend if I go out I get ****ed up and can only exercise on the weekends.

EMPOROAR 09-02-2007, 09:02 PM You are missing out. But as soon as you age you will realize that it is no big deal. Clubs are not a big deal at all. No social dynamics...bunch of horney guys and a bunch of girls who are there for mostly attention...not to hook up. **** that ****.

naw i been around it pretty much all the time growin up and once i seen it i made up my mind of always keepin my mind clear..not so much of what it can do..more of like what it cant..it cant help stamina, power, speed, focus..and also the addiction
ForemanCrossArm 09-03-2007, 03:19 PM Just yesterday I decided that I'm putting boxing first, school second, social life third. (Distant third)
And I have no real problems with that. You've gotta' sacrifice. If I have to read Smokin' Joe once or twice a month to stay focused, I will, ha...
FightNight 2007 09-03-2007, 03:31 PM but its hard cos all any 1 does round here is go out and get pissed so im always left doing **** all.

SpeedKillz 09-04-2007, 09:43 AM personally, i think boxing has improved my social life, and the social life of all my boyz too. whenever i go out, i dont drink or smoke or nothin, i jus stand at the bar or wherever we're at, wait til one of my boys comes up to some chics and says "yo ladies, my boy right there, he's a fighter..." and after that they are jus putty in my hands lol but its true... take that into consideration...

He's right about the girls.
Besides, most people are to scared to do the **** we do. To scared and/or lazy to train that hard and to keep a disciplined eating and sleep schedule; to get ****ing punched in the face...sometimes repeatedly. All I know is that when I started boxing my balls got a whole lot bigger and nobody could bat an eye at that. They know whats up. It takes a tough, strong-minded and dedicated person to participate in this sport. I believe the sacrafice to be entirely worth it. I'm not missing anything being hungover or burnt out when I wake up feeling fresh and confident.
fraidycat 09-05-2007, 01:58 AM "yo ladies, my boy right there, he's a fighter..." and after that they are jus putty in my hands lol but its true...
I have said this before on these boards and I stick by it. Girls are programmed to regard any guy who puts it all on the line -- this includes cops, firefighters, soldiers, big-wave surfers, extreme athletes, and boxers -- as good breeding stock. I think it goes back to caveman days; I seriously think that the primitive part of the brain tells them to breed with risk-takers and make more warriors.
Peterp 09-05-2007, 06:06 AM Yep there is no doubt that girls like guys who can take care of them and who they feel safe around and fighters definitely fit the bill
Even though many girls say they dont like violence, deep down a bit of justified violence gets their ***** wet
watch the latest episode (episode 4) of the great new TV show 'Californication'. At a party, this dickhead spills a drink on this lady and calls her a cunt. Her fiance did nothing, just pulled her away from the situation. At the end of the show, her ex husband found out this dickhead called her a cunt and he goes over and knocks him out. This a perfect example of what a girl wants from their man deep down, someone who will stand up for them, not a *****.

Thats the Right mind set... Your the type of guys that I Think about while i train.
I know your out there doing it so I figure I can't let you get too close or surpass me... because if we ever happened too meat it would all come down to whats been done in the past...
LIKE EVERY fight.... Keep it up.
Buckfever 09-06-2007, 12:41 AM We used to train Mon -Thurs nights and just do a little roadwork on the weekends. This way Fri and Sat you can go out.
