View Full Version : I have a match coming September 21st
Rampage* 08-29-2007, 03:38 PM Gonna be my first fight.. It's at 147 pounds. I'm not really sure where my cardio should be at this point, but I can spar 5 rounds before I'm a bit winded right now. I'm not really sure if my physical strength is going to be an advantage or a disadvantage reading what ppl have been saying on the boards.. I can bench 225x1 squat 355x1 and deadlift 355x1 at weight 147. (I've been in powerlifting competitions) I'm running everyday now and I'm in the gym everyday it's opened (mon-thurs) I'm not going to lose. All my friends/family are coming to watch ;/ going to make me a nervous wreck cuz I'm thinking about the fight right now and it's a month before.
Well, what I'm looking for is some tips/excercises I should be doing when my boxing gym is closed. Right now I am running about 3-4 miles a day.
SpeedKillz 08-29-2007, 04:01 PM i got a fight coming up to on september 21st, where u fightin at? u pro? my fight is in brooklyn, ny at gleason's gym.
anyway u sound ****ing strong as hell for ur weight brother thats awesome. when the gym is closed if i were u i would do conditioning and explosive work, and then ur skill work at the gym. running everyday is good, but take one or 2 days off if ur feelin winded too much while sparring, u dont wanna overtrain, as that tends to happen when training for a fight cuz u wanna train so much to be the best, which is good, but u gotta be careful not to overdo it.
my trainer told me he signed me up to fight at 175 instead of my normal fighting weight of 165. i thought the next class up was 178, but he said to come in at 175, so thats where im at now, and i been lifting alot of weights myself and eating ALOT of food, and am still currently maintaining. im gettin nervous too as the fight rolls around cuz i been out of the ring for almost a year but i know once i get in there the tiger is gettin released from the cage. i know ur nervous more cuz ur friends and family will be there and u dont want to dissapoint them, but u gotta put them, and the crowd, out of ur mind and jus execute ur game pland and kill the dude.
good luck bro hope u do real well!
punchDrUnK MONK 08-29-2007, 11:50 PM yo msg me ur msn adds ballers, we will talk boxing :P
im getting my first fight soon, once my hand is 100%.
i wish u guys luck for ur fights.. for the guy who is having his first one... how did u get matched up? what did u find out / get to know about ur opponent
You bench 225 at 147?! I bench like 185 at 140 :( Haha.. even though it does not really matter. There's some black dude at my gym who uses the bench and just stacks on the weights and then spars smaller dudes who don't get phased by him at all.. and the black dude ain't that slow. Anyway, good luck with your match!

nope it's actually my first amateur fight ever, I was 160 a couple of months ago, so unlike you I went down quite a bit of weight instead of going up. Either way it's tough on the body and I wish you lots of luck. I expect no less then a KO from you! :boxing:

Yeah, this is the stuff I mentioned in my post. I wasn't really sure if my strength was going to be a big advantage like I'd hoped. But one of my sparring parters is 165 and a inch or so taller then me and I can easily back him into the ropes.
Rampage* 08-30-2007, 06:47 PM why you calling a fight, a match?
Because I got matched up with someone to fight on September 21st.. Lol I don't know. Who cares? I'll say fight from now on just for you..

SpeedKillz 08-30-2007, 09:48 PM yea rampage forgot to ask u, where is ur fight at? its not the same spot as me is it?
Gato2012 09-01-2007, 04:16 PM are you pro?
Because there is no such thing as a 147 pound weigh class in the amateurs bro.
FIGHTING_FLIP 09-02-2007, 09:52 PM you sound like a damn beast..you shouldnt be liftin weights tho for boxing..jus keep running...your gonna need all the stamina when your in the ring..especially when ur nervous, it will lower it BIG TIME..run run run run
whatevathehell 09-02-2007, 11:59 PM since everybody else is dropping their fight dates, I might as well too. the trainers at my gym are working with me for a figt on oct. 20.
