....when I was in the Philippines last July, I was at Robinson Mall looking for a French Press. I love barako coffee coz I hate tha instant coffee crap. Nastiest **** ever.

http://www.a1-coffee-makers.com/images/French_press.jpg

So I asked the sales lady for some help. She took me to the kitchen accessory area. Good idea. Then she led me to the deep frying appliances and she said "Sir, ito po puede sa French Pries."

BWAHAHAHA!

No joke. This **** really happened! I had to explain to her what a French Press was and she finally took me to the tea section where they had several. 250 pesos for a 16 ounce French Press. $5!!! :D

lol yeah thats funny but i guess cant blame them, kaya nga saleslady eh.

its my prob with my wife sometimes coz she gets angry at waiters, security guards and waiters for doing such things but i make it a point to explain to her that they wouldnt be in that position if they have the same educational attainment that you have.

anyways, at starbucks you can get it at P 450 - 700 depending on the size.

Still cheap. Here in the Bahamas (also in Starbucks, yes they have Starbucks here already!!!) they are selling that thing for about $18.00 and they say that is the best way to make coffee

Starbuck Tagatay were selling their French Press for about 900 pesos or more, it may have been 1000 pesos.

That's about comporable to US prices....but luckily I got the locally made one which is just as good.

I wouldn't put it that way exclusively, actually the saleslady might have been very smart. Another side of the coin is that she might have adjusted to customers who have accents. Siguro sa dami nang nagtatanong sa kanyang iba-iba ang accents she had assumed/adjusted to what her customers are saying. (Labo ko....hehehehe)

She seemed intelligent. I think that most people in the Philippines drink instant coffee for convenience. Barako is excellent coffee and the French Press is perfect for it.

So the sales lady may have never heard of "French Press". The item was, afterall, in the tea section and not the coffee section.

I guess the Lady is a Trump:D j/k

Could be that she's only familliar with coffee press and not french press. Or, she's not a coffee drinker at all (ring the bell?):banghead:

langya ako nga di ko alam ang "french press" na yan eh. akala ko nga nung nabungaran ko ang thread mo ay name ng newspaper yan (parang free press ba, pero sa france pina-publish), ha ha ha.

just put it this way, some people, they know something that you don't know but it's not to say that they are dumb or something. me, i don't think you can say that i am stupid kasi hindi ko alam yung bagay na yun (but sometimes people would say that coz i am acting like that sometimes, LOL!). defensive ah.

This was at Robinsons in Dasmarinyas. Nagtagalog nga ako, eh! At saka di ako masyadong slang noon. Nasanay na rin ako sa Batangas magtagalog ng mahusay. I think. :D

I wasn't angry nor did I laugh at her (I was laughing inside though). Kase alam ko mot Filipinos prefer instant coffee (ugh...nasty) over barako. So most people have never heard of French Press.

However, since this was like the head sales lady, I thought she'd know the name of the items that they sell. I guess not. :D

Starbucks marks everything up. If you see something there you want, go to the distibutor's website (DeLonghi, Barista, etc.) and order it.

What's the difference between french pressed and brewed? I like brewed coffee myself, pero kung wala at me instant, I don't mind the instant chofi. Dun ako lumaki noong nasa pinas pa ako, NESCAFE... walang brewed coffee noon..... lol.

dapat coarse yung grind nung coffee mo pre, lagay mo lang yun sa french press tapos pour in a freshly boiled water and let it still for about a minute or 2. yung press eh pang sala(filter) lang nung coarse grind coffee bean para maseparate mo yung granules sa liquid then pour it on sa mug :D

i have to agree with kepsy though, i prefer brewed over press(though ang press is ideal for on the go ba, yung tipong nde mo madadala yung coffee maker mo) in other words, parang instant brewed coffee yung sa press. ang ayaw ko kasi sa press eh, no matter how coarse yung grind ng coffee beans mo eh meron pa ring latak na mapupunta sa coffee drink mo eh. yung sa coffee maker eh filtered talaga(unless pangit yung filter)...
