View Full Version : Sven for England
adietheforestfa 08-21-2007, 08:52 PM Maybe hes not as bad as the media made out.
I always thought he was reasonable. Miles better than who we have got at the moment.
His record is pretty good and if Sols goal was not unfairly dissallowed againsed Portugal he would be a legend. Fine line between winning and losing at that level.
Sven in no mug.
Fergies face was a pictute after the defeat.
mickeyb 08-21-2007, 09:08 PM I never disliked Sven, in hindsight everyone can appreciate that his record in qualifiers and tournament England games was very very good. (**** the friendlies, we always seemed to lose them).
People problems with Sven seemed to be based around a resentment of the fact he wouldn't ditch Beckham. A year down the line, people are crying saying "why did we ever get rid of him!!".
Perhaps Svens departure was something more to do with him not being able to keep his dick in his pants. Oh well...
I think McLaren should resign and give the job to big Tez Venables.
adietheforestfa 08-21-2007, 09:29 PM Venables??? are you mad?
Id Rather have Warnock.
Harry Redknap is the Man for the Job IMO.
Problem is FA have no balls, England would have won more than 1 world cup if theyd have given Clough the job when he obviously was by far the best candidate, No disrespect to a good bloke but Ron Greenwood??? Sorry but Clough was best Manager in the world Late 70s early 80s. Best Man manager by far.
Jim_Davis 08-21-2007, 09:30 PM Maybe the Engand team are just not that great together. Sven was a very good england manager. He had a ****e world cup but he was being sacked I dont see why people expected him to win it for us. I guess looking back on it the way he was made a public hate figure was pretty bad.
adietheforestfa 08-21-2007, 09:33 PM Is it just me but Frank Lampard has had more than enough games for England and is Rubbish. He only gets so many goals for Chelsea because he has 200 shots a game.
OptimusWolf 08-22-2007, 03:49 AM sven had a few problems with england
1) he made a few terrible substitutions in key games - Phil Neville anyone?
2) He never got his senior players to take responsibility for enacting a game plan. In games often england would go off the boil for long periods, Gerrard lampard and Beckham persistantly didn't stick to their roles, and teams exploited it.
having said that, the latter point is as much the failure of the players as it is the manager. In both games vs Portugal we had the better team but essentially didn't have the belief on the pitch to keep the ball and impose our game on them. Contrast this to the Keegan game v Portugal where even though they had the better team we really took it to them (not defending keegan overall!).
We also really lack a striker - I mean there's Rooney and then nobody that would get into another top european national squad. Owen used to be outstanding but he's lost too much pace IMO.
OptimusWolf 08-22-2007, 03:51 AM agreed adie, Lampard is a decent player, but not indispensible. he should play if he fits in with the tactics, but he doesn't. We need to have Hargreaves/carrick and gerrard, with two wide players and another striker to complement rooney, who can be given a more free role.
It will be interesting to see whether mcclaren picks on form - SWP should be a shoe in to play on that basis.
mickeyb 08-22-2007, 07:56 AM Lampard doesn't seem to be able to do anything for England except sky the ****ing ball into the stands everytime he gets passed the ball.
And whats wrong with Venables! - oh and christ, don't even talk about Warnock - he'd have the England team be made into a replica of the Sheffield Utd squad the crazy bastard.

Frank lampard is just the reincarnation of david platt with tits.
He's excellent off the ball, but doesn't offer much else, he's a greedy ****er who inhibits gerrards role in the english team.
In the opta stats he had more shots than any other player in the last world cup, not sure how many on target.
He's not the worst player to play for us by any stretch but he's one of the most overrrated, and a fat cunt scorer of **** goals to boot.
Mozza 08-24-2007, 07:58 PM Sven made some bad decisions while in charge of England, the worst of which was the strikers he chose to take to last year's World Cup. However, it should be pointed out that the strikers available to Sven between 2002 and 2006 are the worst generation of English strikers for at least two decades, probably longer. Another factor to take into consideration is that because of the media he was too scared to drop Gerrard or Lampard and he had no real left-sided midfielder during his entire spell as manager. Although England have some great players, technically speaking, they are still a considerable distance behind their European and top South American counterparts.
Likely_Lad 08-25-2007, 04:19 AM Sven for England, no ****in way.
He's staying where he is.
