View Full Version : Who's the best Fly & Superfly today ?
THRILLAinmanila 10-20-2004, 01:22 AM About time the other weight divisions got some exposure....
I know most are fans of featherweights upwards..but lets
give some credit to the best Flyweights & Superflyweights
today. Z Gorres is taunted to be the next MannyPac...
Who are your personal bets in the 2 divisions?
Fly - Pongsaklek Wonjongkham
Superfly - Alexander Munoz
Z Gorres? he's still a prospect and not even rated yet. Let's see how well he performs in the next 2 years. ;)

Agree wuth you on Pongsaklek. Z is rated No. 1 in the Phils.
and the OPBF. Hopefully he gets rated by the bigger bodies
with a good performance next month in the US. But watch out
for this boy. He is some package waiting to explode

Let's hope so :D But I think Rodel Mayol is an even bigger package ready to explode.;)

Know what, I've heard about that Mayol kid. Any background info?
Like fight record, etc ?

According to BoxRec
Rodel Mayol
OPBF Minimumweight champion
19Wins (15KO's) - 0Loss - 0Draws
Has only been fighting in these parts, basically untested. Supposedly was to be Ivan Calderon's challenger underneath the Morales-Barrera 3 showdown. Don't know what happened, but the WBO champ opted for an easier opponent.;) Let's hope he gets some meaningful fights in the West for his much needed exposure.

Wow, that's an awesome record compared to Z's 17-1-1 (10 KOs).
I hope these 2 guys do well and get some real belts soon

Mayol I believe is really capable of getting a belt, given a chance anytime, anywhere. Gorres however, really needs to get more fights and exposure...he should be ripe by 2006, not next year, not just yet.

Add to that he's going to match up against a fighter with a patsy record (badillo : 51 fights - 18 wins -32 losses (wtf !)1 draw, and 7 pathetic KOs).
Then again, beating Badillo mercilessly in front of US boxing fans and TV viewers might help jumpstart his career....

Exactly. ;)
At the moment, what he needs is a safe opponent on his US debut to build up his confidence. Surely, you can't be that hard on him man. hahahaha LOL:D
Hey, those 4,000+ points of yours looks like it's waiting to be stolen ;)...you might consider the bank option...or...the donate option (i got a measly 400 only) hahaha LOL :D

Yeah :) I was probably thinking of the way Pacman beat Barrera on US TV (like he stole something accdg to one P4P Top 10 list I saw ) :D
Supafly25 10-20-2004, 10:56 AM im the best Supafly!!! :D

Former WBC Superflyweight champion Gerry Penalosa [47W(32KOs)-5L-2D] is going to challenge undefeated Thai WBF Superfly champ Bangsaen Sithprapom 14W(7KOs)0L-0D on November 20 in Manila.
I believe he can still get back that green WBC belt he once wore, In Joo Cho and Masamori Tokuyama were simply bad style match-ups for him...they were Gainer-type track stars.

Bangsaen is just 20 yrs old and he's got a good record to boot. Am not so sure if Penalosa is a has-been. Especially with his last fight against a poor mediocre fighter..

We will know storm...i like Penalosa, good technical fighter slugger/counterpuncher, throws good combos in a flash...his fight with Polo Saucedo was a boxing clinic! ;) ...he really looks good against fighters who come to him and bang, looks really bad against boxer/runners though... :o
JOM'S 10-27-2004, 07:13 AM given a chance gerry penalosa, could still become a world champion, he got motivated on the success & recognition Manny has won.....

Thais and Filipinos have always been very good fly and superfly boxers. Up and comers Rey Bautista and Z Gorres are the best hopes for the Philippines right now.

Good news Storm. Z Gorres is now a Freddie Roach pupil and Rey Bautista will go to Larry Holmes' gym. :)

Muay Thai, if you get the chance, watch how this Boom Boom Bautista fights. He's a bigger version of the Pacman :)

Great ! I know about Z, but Rey going to Larry Holmes' gym is a good sign indeed :)
Speaking of Fly's, anyone ever see Yuri Arbachakov?

...and Prince Gabi will be trained by Emmanuel Steward. Diamonds in the rough. Stone-fisted Randy Suico has been making some noise early this year then pffft...anything on him? I understand he's a Teikken fighter just like Yodsanan 3K Battery Nanthachai, but he really needs to hook up with a good trainer, he is all power but he's like a tree! no movement at all!

NAB, last I heard when he quit in 98 was that he was opening his own gym in Japan. No idea what happened eversince....
Thanks, apparently he was quite a good puncher

Randy lost a controversial eliminator bout to a South African a few months back. The sad thing was that in was his very first loss in more than 20 fights .In my opinion he lost to a hometown decision. I saw the bout myslef. If he had won that fight he would have been the next in line to challenge Erik Morales for the Superfeatherweight belt.
But I agree with you, he is stone-fisted but he fights like STONE ! not much movement on the ring to make him a serious contender to the other big superfeathers. With his style, El Terrible will beat him hands-down.
I think he will not win against your boy Nanthachai at this point in his career. He needs a Freddie Roach to take him to the next level.

Suico and Yodsanan 3K will not fight, at least at the moment, Akihiko Honda won't let his two top SFW fighters battle each other.
Hooking up with Roach or Goosen will help a banger like him develop lateral movement and technique. Attention, Joe Koizumi! ;) :D
