The goal of running is to build stamina. Running with extra weight will not significantly build muscle so it is pretty much a waste of time and may even injure you.

Nothing is wrong with building muscle, just don't try to do it while doing your roadwork.

I do this, i run with a 20kg backpack, builds up your legs a treat. Also, a word of advice, if you do it watch out for big hills, they really hurt.

I've started running with weights, I don't see what the harm is, just as long as you don't use overly heavy weights. For example, I have 5lbs on each hand when I run, the reason why is when we do drills in the ring with my gloves on, my hands feel like cinder blocks, thus, after running with weights for awhile, my gloves feel like nothing. Ya dig?

I only run on hills with my 40lb backpack, nothing better than hill training works your legs a treat

my opinion just run without your not training to be a rugby player

The last post was mainly concerning people new to it and also have you ever found your pack chafes your back and shoulders when it bounces around up and down the hills?

i only run with weights when i do 50 - 100 meter sprints. and i use a weighted vest i hear ankle and wrist weights are bad for ur joints, so i stay away from using them and i dont ever run long distances with more weight on me, not even the vest. but if it works for u and ur not getting injured, and makin progress, then stick with it...
