View Full Version : First day footie results and more
MickyHatton 08-12-2007, 03:40 PM Thoughts guys, highlights probably are the Sunderland result and the Rooney injury.
Reading did well to hold on for the draw but Kitson was unlucky IMO to get a straight red after about 30 seconds of coming on lol!
msagrain 08-12-2007, 03:48 PM yay me team won 1-0
eazy_mas 08-12-2007, 04:02 PM Newcastle won over Bolton 3-1 with ease too.
worst thing in footie is to have an permnate injury. or injury that takes the player a whole season
adamk1304 08-12-2007, 04:46 PM United are going to struggle this season, they only have 3 pure strikers available now and i don't think it's enough. That ginger bastard deserved the red card btw.
Jimmy The Gent 08-12-2007, 05:02 PM Dave Kitson reminds me of myself when I play football with tackles like that
kayjay 08-12-2007, 07:44 PM I'm a little sad a Fulham team with three Yanks (Arturo, I give in I'm a homer too) on the pitch couldn't hold on against Arsenal.
Is there word yet on Rooney?

He's fractured a bone in his foot, he's not expected to play in England's Euro 2008 qualifiers next month, so i'm guessing he's going to be out for a while.

There goes my player of the year bet.
ArturoBalboa 08-13-2007, 05:52 AM Great start to the season.
Blackburn won, both my bets on the forum look good, although gerrard looked fantastic and may be essiens biggest threat and top of the fantasy league table. Put some real cash on the line on southgate being 1st manager to be sacked and man city to win league on handicap betting (41 point) start. City look good, but a little worried that sammy lee may go 1st.
I though kitson was unlucky, clumsy and late, yellow card. Six players scored on their premiership debut, bodes well for an entertaining season.

Gerrard looks like he did two seasons ago (after Liverpool won the CL) and he was PFA Player of the Year that Season.
He played well last season but I think the World Cup took its toll on him, now with a good pre season behind him he looks to have that extra yard of pace and sharpness.
Saying that though Essien looks strong as well. Although he has picked up a knock already as well.
mickeyb 08-13-2007, 08:36 AM The Owls got ****ed by Ipswich 4-1. Terrible. Again!
I think Reading played well at the weekend.
The Monk 08-13-2007, 11:53 AM Losing 2-1 to Burnley is bad enough but to cap it off I had to sit on a wooden seat, how dare they.
OptimusWolf 08-13-2007, 12:04 PM 2 late goals scored by Watford the c**ts.
Apparently our defence is still shaky, not sure why mccarthy hasn't added another centre back and or a proper right back.
mickeyb 08-13-2007, 12:48 PM Losing 2-1 to Burnley is bad enough but to cap it off I had to sit on a wooden seat, how dare they.
Wooden seat??
adamk1304 08-13-2007, 01:23 PM There goes my player of the year bet.
I don't know if you already know this but Freddy Adu signed for Benfica a couple of weeks ago, so he should be playing in the champion's league this season. I was hoping he'd move to a bigger club but oh well.
ArturoBalboa 08-13-2007, 01:49 PM Losing 2-1 to Burnley is bad enough but to cap it off I had to sit on a wooden seat, how dare they.
Ha ha ****ing dingles.
We played them in 2000-2001 season in division 1 (now championship). They're our big local rivals and we hadn't played them for 17 years.
We won the game 2-o and their fans were so pissed off they went on a rampage in their own town smashing up a pet shop?!
The Monk 08-14-2007, 09:12 AM Wooden seat??
Yep, the section I was in was wooden seats.
mickeyb 08-14-2007, 09:22 AM Yep, the section I was in was wooden seats.
Theres some very backward places today in British society. I must say. Savages.
.Mik. 08-14-2007, 09:53 AM Points from Birmingham and Wigan this week and my confidence for the season will be on an all-time high.
MickyHatton 08-14-2007, 05:05 PM Spurs were poor tonight, they seem to be lacking invention in the last third, all they seemed to do was pump into the box. Two losses on the spin....never saw that coming!
Everton looked strong especially Arteta.

Everton looked strong especially Arteta.
Agreed. They'd better hope lennon comes back soon.
I don't think arteta would look out of place at any of the big 4 clubs in the premiership, and i am amazed that he hasn't been capped by spain, find him an english granny!

Totally agree, Arteta for me is borderline world class, the problem with Spain is that the have many similar players, I would guess that his biggest rival is Xabi Alonso who isn't bad either!
MickyHatton 08-15-2007, 12:44 PM Toulouse 0 - Liverpool 1
Qualifying round of the Champions League
Voronin 25 yard screamer wins it.
Liverpool take away goal to Anfield.
.Mik. 08-15-2007, 04:46 PM I'll take that.
kayjay 08-15-2007, 11:42 PM I don't know if you already know this but Freddy Adu signed for Benfica a couple of weeks ago, so he should be playing in the champion's league this season. I was hoping he'd move to a bigger club but oh well.
He'd sit the bench at any bigger club. Benfica is perfect, he'll play CL qualifying this year, he'll fit the Portugese game (better than he would England), and in three years or so he'll be ready to move to a bigger club.
I just hope MLS wrote some resale rights into the contract, b/c they didn't get much for him.
Likely_Lad 08-17-2007, 08:39 AM So glad we didn't let Michael Johnson go to Liverpool (sorry Micky, KayJay, Raging Bull etc) but for 18 he is some talent.
Looking forward to this weekend revenge match, its the first time in decades were we actually can look to win this game!
Jimmy The Gent 08-17-2007, 10:54 AM I fancy City to win on sunday, United haven't looked great so far whilst City have looked solid and without Ronaldo and Rooney United will struggle
ArturoBalboa 08-17-2007, 11:26 AM You can get odds of 7/2 at paddy power and coral for a city win. They're massive odds given how both teams have started, injuries, suspensions etc.
adamk1304 08-17-2007, 02:49 PM City have a great chance of beating united on sunday, but when united are on a bad run they usually end it by hammering another team, which could happen at any time.
Likely_Lad 08-17-2007, 02:51 PM I'm not religious but I am on my knees praying!
Likely_Lad 08-25-2007, 09:46 AM Liverpool look ****in dangerous this term.
If it hadn't been for an awesome Craig Gordon (who looks the dogs BTW) they could have have won by 6 or 7 instead of just the 0-2.
Impressed with Torres.
I am praying for a point today!
Oasis_Lad 08-25-2007, 10:17 AM Lol:

The Raging Bull 08-25-2007, 10:37 AM We played great today but Gordon looked unbelievable!
At least this term it's looking like we can kill off teams :)

Glad to hear that. Fox showed Arsenal-City instead, though I didn't complain about that.
Did Sissoko look good holding up the middle?
Did you see my post in the other thread about Lucas? He looked promising this week in getting his first cap, though not much could be told from that game.

Believe it or not KayJay Sissoko played in the advanced role instead of Gerrard, scored and was very good in fact he was man of the match. Alonso played in the holding role.
I'm not too disapointed with City today, listening to the summary we played well so I'd have took these first 4 results in a heartbeat!

As Likely Lad said, he was attacking more today. With his athleticism and power, he may suit this position more?
Yeh I saw it but I haven't seen much of him since he signed for us. I'm hoping that they'll let him feature prominently in the reserves so I can see all his games (free on Setanta) :D
.Mik. 08-26-2007, 11:47 AM Well, we were ****ing dire yesterday. Liverpool thoroughly deserved the win. Lots to do before the end of the transfer window I think.

They were very impressive actually, though Arsenal deserved it; defensively they're near the top I think

I think to be positive Mik, Sunderland seem to understand the importance of hard work at this level unlike Derby who seem lost.
You put Liverpool under immense pressure on the ball yesterday and lesser sides wont be able to handle that. I am confident that Sunderland will be still in the Premiership next season.
Likely_Lad 08-26-2007, 01:16 PM Man U the twats.
Great goal by Nani but Spurs should have had at least one concrete penno, perhaps another with the foul on Berbatov.
Likely_Lad 08-26-2007, 01:18 PM They were very impressive actually, though Arsenal deserved it; defensively they're near the top I think
Yeah, I think Arsenal deserved the win but we did ourselves proud.
I am seriously impressed with Sven, its early but we are a different team.

I've been hugely impressed with nosworthy at centre half he seems to be able to effortlessly muscle forwards off the ball without giving away a foul.
I'd like andre ooijer to watch and learn.
.Mik. 08-26-2007, 02:41 PM Oh I'm not particularly worried. I know that we'll survive and probably do quite well at the level. We've been unlucky that all three of our most creative midfield players have suffered injuries within a week of each other. Many of the players just need to get used to the level and we do need better quality in a couple of areas. Particularly with a proven leftback and a striker who can hold up the ball and win headers. Fortunately, thats what we're looking to get before the end of next week with Kenwyn Jones and Ian Harte likely to be signed before the deadline at the very least.

Are you a Blackburn fan ArturoBalboa?
Blackburn have got to be the biggest side in football!!!
I mean you had some big strong players before you added Cruz and Samba etc, Everton usually out muscle teams but got screwed in that department yesterday.
I think every side will find Rovers hard to handle this year and I can see a top seven finish.

Certainly am mate. Yeh we are a big team, when i 1st saw samba on the bench for his debut against luton i thought he was mark hughes minder.
We're still a physical team but hughes has got us playing better football now, and he's paid peanuts to bring in some quality players. I worry that he'll end up managing Man Utd one day.
I'd be happy with a top ten finish and a decent run in the uefa cup. You've had a great start to the season.

There was also another guy sat on your bench who looks like a Heavyweight??? Who was he?
I remember going to watch Charlton v Blackburn about 6 or 7 years ago when you had gone down to the 1st Division, (I was posted at Woolwich) and had a ****ing great night with the travelling contingent, great club.
As for City mate, I keep pinching myself because it cant be true. I expect us to be probably found out fairly soon but if we make the top ten it will be a ****in great season.
MickyHatton 08-27-2007, 03:52 PM Anyone seen the news on Manuel Fernandes?
After Everton spent weeks brokering the deal to seal his loan to permanent and him attending the Blackburn match as well as a dinner party held by the Chairman etc he u turned and joined Valencia out of the blue???
Also the Yakubu deal is in trouble due to a work permit, which is strange considering he has been in England for years!

That would be aaron "the axe" mokoena, he's even got a boxers nickname and tribal scars. He's about as subtle as using a baseball bat as a rectal thermometer, he has no skills but he hates skills and responds with his hacking technique. He was bought as a kind of specialist **** kicker to play in front of the back four but we don't use him much now.
I reckon you'll definite have a top half finish mate, your defence looks solid enough to suggest you'll pick up enough clean sheets to take the pressure off your new strikers who are looking pretty handy anyway.
Cheers for the compliment pal, and the best of luck to yourselves for the season, obviously not this weekend though.
MickyHatton 09-01-2007, 12:26 PM Obviously a great result for Liverpool today so I am happy, Derby to be honest look very poor.
Glad to see Owen scoring his second in a week.
Plenty of goals this week.
OptimusWolf 09-01-2007, 03:35 PM not in the game involving Wolves, although with our defensive frailties I'm surprised.
Should be a good motd
MickyHatton 11-02-2007, 07:12 AM How do you see the games going tommorow guys?
We have a tricky one at Blackburn.
Who do you see on top between Arsenal and Man U?

Got to be honest Micky, I can see blackburn beating your lot tommorow, which is a shame because I put a little wager on Liverpool to win the league in August. The Arsenal - Manure will probably be a bore draw me thinks, so watch out for Chelsea to continue their push up the table.
We all really know the big game tommorow though. The mighty West Brom are about to bring Watford crashing back down to earth...well thats what im hoping.
Likely_Lad 11-02-2007, 07:23 AM We've got Sunderland on Monday night. Richards looks doubtful but I still fancy us at home.
Arsenal v Man U - I say Arsenal 2-1
Micky, I see you picking up another point at Blackburn.

You could be right pal, we just aren't firing at all and Blackburn look strong. I didn't think that I would be saying this and I hope I am wrong but Rafa doesn't look like he is going to bring home the title for us. His rotation system isn't working.
Add into that injuries to many key players this season i.e. Alonso, Torres, Pennant and Agger etc and its not looking great.
The Monk 11-02-2007, 07:31 AM The injury curse has definatly hit you hard this season, the loss of Alonso epecially IMO. I wish Bentitez could win the premiership for you, he is my favourite manager out of the big four, but he just seems to struggle with the english game ever so often.

Your guys are doing well mate. Miller is on fire, is there a chance of a permanant deal from City?
The Monk 11-02-2007, 08:24 AM Yeah we are doing well at home (won 5, drawn 1) but away we are a completly different team. Think its looking like the playoffs again this season. Miller is definatly a force in the championship, and he says he will sign permanantly if we get promoted so im not sure if i'll be watching him next season. He will be a premiership player next year though.
kayjay 11-02-2007, 09:21 AM I think United could win at Arsenal. As spectacular as Arsenal are on the ball, they do have some defensive holes that haven't been fully exploited just yet. Granted their defense is better than I expected, but United will probably score twice on them and get at least a point, maybe all three.
I think Crouch should start at Blackburn and I wouldn't be surprised to see him score.

He's a good player no doubt but I'm not sure if he will ever get back into our first team, especially with Sven looking at spending big in Jan.

What happened last week?
Celtic_Warrior 11-02-2007, 12:12 PM We've got Portsmouth tommorow at St James Park. I'll be happy with a point against them to be honest.
I think United will beat Arsenal 2-0 simply because I feel that it will be an open game and United have the better quality up front.

Celtic_Warrior 11-02-2007, 04:04 PM What do you think about Big Sam at Newcastle?
The jury is still out on him mate.
The thing is we expect trophies yet we never ever end up with any, not sure Sam will change that.

The Monk 11-03-2007, 01:06 PM Whoaaaa, we just destroyed Watford 3-0 and listening on the radio we should have won by more. Time to start my setanta all nighter with The liverpool game. Boing Boing

me too. they cant hit the broadside of a ****ing barn lately let alone the back of the net. also rafa's selection policy is awful. gerrard and carragher had no business playing against cardiff in the worthless carling cup and he also ****ed up by putting an unfit torres in for the arsenal match instead of crouch. and what happened? torres got hurt again. troubling times right now at anfield and they will get worse if they dont beat bestikas this week in the CL

Did you go to the game Micky? Good atmosphere wasn't it?
Liverpool played poor and only really grabbed the initiative when Kewell and Crouch came on.
The fans really need to give Benitez time, we're in transition and it takes years. Just look at the quality coming through the ranks. El Zhar's goal last week says it all!
And we're still unbeaten ;)
