Filipino boxing judge Capt. Ramon Flores has been “given a warning” by the Games and Amusements Board “to be extra careful” in scoring fights after Manila Standard criticized him for a “ridiculously lopsided” scorecard in the Orient Pacific Boxing Federation lightweight title fight between champion Dennis Laurente and Japanese challenger Chikashi Inada last October 2. Japanese journalist and boxing manager Joe Koizumi had described Flores’ score as “too nationalistic” after he gave it to Laurente 119-109 while referee/judge David Chung scored it even at 115-115 and Japanese judge Nobuaki Uratani scored it in favor of the Filipino 115-114. That's the right thing to do. Infact there's should be an international body that monitors ref and judges performance and give them ratings. If a judge or a ref continues to perform questionably then he shouldn't be allowed to precide over big international events.
The fight can always be reviewed by a board to check how accurate and realistic the judge scored a fight.

Exactly, that's why what I'm talking about here is a universal body that will maintain a pool of judges and refs, monitor their performances and rate them accordingly. What's happening now is that the refs are being chosen by virtue of popularity and association with these boxing bodies and not objectively on how they perform.
Take the example of Cortez, despite his numerous questionable performances, his name is still unblemished and regarded at one of the best refs in the business. And that judge on JMM/PAC fight? How the hell he finds himself in the judges panel when in fact he has been reprimanded previously for being biased? :D
If a universal GoVerning body will be in place then irregardless if it's WBO, WBC, IBF or WBA FIGHT CARD, same standard applies and we can lessen if not totally eliminate fight outcomes resulting from questionable judging or officiating. So irregardless of the judges or the refs nationality or where ever the fight is going to be we will all be looking and expecting a universal standard being applied.

At least now in the Philippines they are trying to start something, and it is still wishfull thinking to have an international body monitoring the judges....

Judges like Captain Flores should be banned from judging future boxing matches and should be brought to court for further investigation.

Absolutely. We cannot just play blind and deaf to this kind of irregularities. In the long run fighters with connections can easily pad up their winning records by virtue of manipulations.

Oh yes . . . but still it's worth discussing :p Imagine refs being rated as Class A;B;and C by just one universal body? And receiving uniform salaries as per classification?
