I was thinkin about buyin some 18 or 20 oz gloves..what will benefit from it? will i get more power, hand speed and more protection for my hands? i usually train with 14 oz n spar with 16 oz..n at my weight i think we use 12 oz gloves..so is it better to train with 18 or 20 oz gloves??

IMO, absolutely it is better to train with heavier gloves. It increases your endurance, improves your handspeed, and it protects your hands. I train with 20's and spar with 16's. The Gel bag gloves from Title are 20 oz. and have the profile of a 14 or 16-oz. glove. They are my personal favorite training glove.

I got a pair of the Title training gloves,16oz. They should be coming in soon. Are they really durable?

I shadow box with with these 1kg weights, I think they are intended to put on your ankles. You can just wrap them around your wrists. Does wonders for you.

i hear its bad for ur joints to wrap weights around ur wrists (or ankles). the weight isnt distributed even so it puts pressure on ur joints. i think weighted gloves are the way to go. title has weighted bag gloves that 12 ounces without weight and u can add a total of 2 pounds in them (4, half pound weights) in each glove. i use them they are awesome it really helps in keeping ur hands up, power, and speed. i need to get some new ones though cuz these ones i got are on their way out...

I think 16oz is OK but if you really want to increase your handspeed yeah get heavier gloves or shadow box while carrying light weights on each hand.

Using heavy gloves will also help you to keep your hands up during a bout.

It certainly helps.

Also, something a guy at my gym taught me -- and I teach the noobs at my gym this -- is not only to keep your hands up during drills and roadwork, but to put them up and keep them up when you get tired -- catch your breath in your stance, moving your feet, even if you're just shuffling your feet. Anything, so long as you cover up and MOVE. Sounds stupid, but after a few months I found myself instinctively turtling up tight and moving when I was feeling tired in the ring or during drills.

It's now been well over a year, and I find that when I'm getting fatigued at my job, I'll instinctively put my hands up into a peekaboo guard and rock back and forth while I catch my breath.

Yeah I do jumping jacks with those on my ankles.

And as for the topic starter........hell yes. Hit the heavybag and focus with 20 oz gloves instead of lighter ones. Your handspeed will get ridiculously fast in no time compared to how it was when you were used to using lighter.

I used to do most work with 12 and 16 oz Reyes, I switched when everyone at the gym bought a bag full of 20 oz everlasts and use those instead.....and most of them are superbag gloves.
