What exactly is UFO about? i have heard good things.

Basically you are in charge of a worldwide agency that has to deal with an alien threat. These UFOs keep appearing and nicking cattle, exige etc and you have to protect the earth.

You start of with a few migs, platinummatt and 2tough as troops with water pistols and you have to shoot the things down and investigate the crash sites to see wtf is going on. You gradually learn that these guys want to take over the whole world, and they have begun infiltrating the governments etc. You then have to fight back, improve your technology/troops/bases etc and eventually jet off to Mars to beat them in their own backyard much like Hatton.

The game play is in 2 parts. one is a globe view where you send your planes off to intercept ufos and alien terrorist uprisings in cities etc. You manage your resources from here. The other bit is a turn based strategy game when you are fighting the aliens with your soldiers, raiding UFOs, defending your base from ground assault etc. Try it, the link should work. It came in at 12 on the ign all time HOF

deus ex is 21 in that list, which I'm sure the younguns won't appreciate.

The supernes years were undoubtedly the best for gaming though, before sony came and ruined most of the real art.
