I bought Bas' MMA workout to work on some cardio at home. So I get it, $50 for it. Well, being as dumb as I can be, I forgot I was a lefty in a righty world. Everything on the tapes pertains to a right handed boxer/ thai boxer so it's all backwards for me. I guess I have 3 choices. Do it right handed and become a much better righty stance striker. Remake the tapes for a lefty, which would take some work, but seems like what I will do eventually even if I do it right sometimes. Or, try to do the opposite of everything Bas say's when it comes to striking, which I tried tonight and couldn't do for more then 30 or 40 seconds without getting pissed. **** this pisses me off!

One more thing! Any of you bad mofo's ever make your own heavy bag. If I could make my own I could probably have it done within the next couple of days and save myself some loot.

This is not for the StandUp forum either. This is an expression of my anger and belongs in OT. When I get some answers on the homemade heavy bag move it wherever you want.

Fight as a righty. Oscar De La Hoya, Michael Moorer, Jerome Lebanner and many others choose to put their best weapon closest to the target. Your left Jab and left hook will be devastating and will enable you to set up sick unorthodox combos.

I am right handed and jab with my right hand.

So Bulldogge is correct. You'll have a killer hook

That's what I was thinking. I'd still like to be able to do it lefty too though, it would be great to be able to fight equally well with both hands/arms and legs/feet. I could get that Mickey Ward left hook to the body going if I fought righty. thanks guys

That's how I fight too, IMO it's also easier to incorporate standard judo and wrestling into your stand-up.

I train both my sides equally as much as possible. my boxing trainers tell me to keep my right hand as my power. but i wanna do both.

Its hard cause i keep reverting back to my right hand as power

Well, it was the natural choice for me, seeing as I broke my collarbone when I was younger on my left side.

You lose some hand speed from what I am told, so it makes more sence to have my jab hand to be my right hand.

BTW, this IS turning into a stand-up forum thread. If we lose much more anger out of it, I'll have to move it heh

doh, if you move it to stand up it will die forever. ahhhhh I'm gonna start doing the tapes right handed tonight, cause I usually focus on my power side which is my left.

anybody ever make their own bag? or know a way I could do it? I want to be able to work kicks at home, and it's hard just kicking the air.

you can move it creed, it is stand up material

Someone else told me to fight as a righty, but I don't think I would. I'm with Zen on this one... really Zen, as a southpaw, it's ****ed isn't it? I have the Bas tapes too, and I kinda look at everything I'm doing as a mirror image of what he's doing on the screen... only difference is that he says right, and that usually translates to left in my mind just because of instinct... I've been training boxing under an orthodox coach who knows southpaw stance for a little under a year now, so while he's leading other people in his classes, I look at what he's doing rather than listen to what he's saying (if what he's saying applies to "left right left" type ****).

Focus.

I tried last night to do the audio tapes, and just do the opposite of what Bas is saying and I couldn't do it for more than a minute or so without getting pissed. I think if I stay consistent and just get a little better each time I'll be able to do it opposite after awhile.

Sucks being a lefty sometimes don't it Ghost? I got the Darrell Gholar takedown video and that's all based on a righthanded punching stance, it's easier to switch that up though than the combos on Bas' tapes.

Oh well, I need to be able to fight with either hand leading anyways. Strength through adversity.

As a southpaw, there are more perks than downfalls... it just kinda sucks that most training material is geared towards the right-handed fighter. There's not enough diversity in the market for us lefties, but **** it... the way Klitschko got KOed the other night by that fatass southpaw, it only goes to show that the left cross and the left hook can be devastating when you're coming out of nowhere with them. I'd rather fight southpaw for that reason.

That was amazing, even the announcer was saying he couldn't see that left hand coming. I think with kicking too, a southpaw has an advantage. With high kicks anyways, when fighting a righty there are tons of openings to deliver punishing kicks. Yvel- Goodridge comes immediately to mind.

Most fighters who fight with the conventional mindset won't see a punch like that coming. I did. If you ever get the chance to watch this fight again, notice how Klitschko put himself right at Sanders' 10 o' clock. When you do that, you're putting your face right in front of the fury. All a lefty fighter has to do at that point is throw it out & lunge into it, and he has the opportunity to connect with a devastating cross. Klitschko reeled the whole fight from that first knock down. He's never been hit like that, I can assure you.

Note to all conventional fighters: stay the **** outta my 10 o clock.

it's not worth making your own bag, just see if you can get one cheap.
