Was I was watching Michael Katsidis fight, I was wondering do most boxers in Australia fight this way or not? I was very impressed with Katsidis.

id disagree with infestacide a bit.. i think aussie boxers tend to be real fighters. mundine.. dibb and a few others are the exception but you only have to watch a domestic card to see that we produce and appreciate warriors over technicians. stay tuned for briggs v garay.. hopefully itll be another spectacle.

Aussie fighters often come like Katsidis , we are generally not real stylistly talented but tough walkup fighters , Rocky Katsidis is good mix of both , from Jeff Harding and his Andries wars , to Jeff Fenech and his phone booth 12rds with Azumah Nelson in Vegas , some lesser known Aus champs that were two fisted warriors Lester Ellis and Barry Michaels , most Aus fighters that get to top level have a real burning desire to win ,, its not a popular mainstream sport here and we only have about 150 registered boxers total so we do quite well considering that we are drawing from an entire population of less than NY city .

its ok, dont listen to this dude his always wrong. i agree to a point, but not many aussies cant take a punch as good as katsidis and not many of them have the will of katsidis. sure we have a few stand up fighters, but the new breed are boxers not brawlers. Mundine, kickett, medley, geale, pittman etc... i wouldnt call them brawlers or "in your face" fighters.

as the Aussies are ex British criminals they tend to scrap rather that box it's in their genes very little in the way of culture.

Fixed.

And no ****. You have to come from somewhere else originally when our country was only founded 200 odd years ago.

not many aussies are like katsidis........as much as he is a brawler, i can see that he is a smart man and more of a thinker than may be thought..

unfortunately not many of our fighters have been known to be good thinkers...I think many lack the mental maturity/thinking power to win the big fights........this too me was clearly displayed in such fights as:

Danny Green vs Beyer I ...had it in the bag and got silly
Danny Green vs Beyer II ...went in thinking it was going to be a walkover and then didn't know what to do once he realised it wasn't going to be as such.

Nedal Hussein...........in all of his world title fights (clearly had the goods to win but the thinking wasn't there)

Hussein Hussein vs Arce II....didn't have his thinking with him.

the list goes on....

i think a lot of this is due to the lack of competition we have down under.............we rarely get big time fights and its usually a case of a fighter having 20 odd fights and then going into a huge fight overseas.

I could name name several world champions that are either indigenous australian or white australian (Convicts) , any way everyone is just just jelous we have the greatest country in the world, aussies arent biased it doesnt matter what your descent is if your born or even bred in australia YOU ARE AUSTRALIAN... even if there not blood australian they are made in australia... australia produces good fighters and it's a fact!

What ya mean mate? Retired? he just won a fight last Aug. He just needs a good fight with the likes of Jorge Arce. Maybe he can amend for his fellow aussie mate Vic by fighting Donaire! Interesting....

He beat some bum, which is no news for Hussy. Next time he fights an elite fighter he won't stand a chance.

Mijares will outbox Vic just like he did Arce. Vic vs. Arce is fight both fighters have a chance of winning and the winner would be vindicated in the boxing world. A hight stakes fight, which should happen but probably won't. They really should make this fight neither fighter is getting younger and a close fight could mean a rematch or a trilogy valued at a nice retirement package.

Australian Boxing has really gone sh*t lately! Besides the Grange Gym and Legendary Johnny Lewis' Gym, there is f**k all 'Top Class' Gyms anywhere else including Victoria. It breaks my heart to see Boxing go down the sh*t hole! Everytime poor-old Jeff Fenech takes Aussie fighters to overseas they bloody get Owned! Shannon Taylor confessed to Fenech after round that was getting hit with Bazookas from Shane Mosley. Roy Jones embarassed Glen Kelly in 2001 with hands behind back KO! The Husseins got battered to a pulp! Green's stupidity during BeyerI disqualification! Mundine being put to sleep by feather-fisted Ottke! Only Paul Briggs (Very unlucky) can hold his head high after wars with Adamek. It's a fact were not producing the likes of Jimmy Carruthers, Lionel Rose, Johnny Famechon, Jeff Fenech, Barry Michael, Lester Ellis... The kids in Australia are FAT porkies who love Maccas and their PS2. Were in the midst of an Obesity crisis at the moment and it doesn't look like we'll be going back to those halycon days in any hurry!

I agree with your post. The main reason The Taylors, Glen Kellys, Husseins etc get owned is because their lack of fighting quality opposition through their careers.
Sure these guys were racking up a good record with out an L getting to the #1 ranking for a title shot only to find out their living in a world of false confidence once the opening bell sounds.

You really need to fighting & beating legit Top 10 fighters before you get a title shot. If your an Aussie and your serious about being a world champ, you really need to fight in the USA and work your way up fighting on undercards. Robbie Peden is a pretty good example of what I mean, he's not a great fighter but was able to hang with the Top fighters and even beat some.

Stay away from fight soup kitchen fighters.

Yeh but probably not a KO coz Mijares is not such a power puncher. But an intelligent boxer. On the other hand, Arce Vic is a good match. who knows some promoter might catch the vision. I guess the most interesting of all is Mijares fighting Donaire. I'd like to see Mijares fight a Pinoy bec He never had.
